A new emoji picker.

New

• Built-in emoji picker. The 😊 button in the message field now opens an emoji popover with search, categories and your frequently used emoji. It closes when you click anywhere else, and you can pick several emoji in a row.
• More reactions. The + in the reaction bar opens the full emoji picker, and picking an emoji reacts with it straight away.

Fixed

• The emoji window no longer stays open after you click outside it.
• Reacting with an emoji from + now actually sends the reaction.

Install

Parley 0.1.3 and later update automatically. Choose Parley › Check for Updates… to get it now.

New here or on 0.1.2 or earlier? Download Parley-0.1.4.dmg below and drag Parley to Applications. If macOS says it can't verify Parley, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. The app isn't notarized yet.

Parley now keeps itself up to date.

New

• Automatic updates. Parley checks for new versions once a day and offers to install them. Choose Parley › Check for Updates… (or the ••• menu in the menu bar panel) to check any time. Updates are signed, so Parley only installs versions published by its developer.
• Update settings. Turn automatic checks, or fully automatic download and install, on or off in Settings › General › Updates.

Improved

• The menu bar panel closes when you open something. Clicking Open, a chat, New Chat or Settings now brings up the window and dismisses the panel.

1. Download Parley-0.1.3.dmg below and drag Parley to Applications, replacing the older version. This is the last manual update: from now on Parley updates itself.
2. Open it. If macOS says it can't verify Parley, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. The app isn't notarized yet.

A fix for Parley getting stuck the first time you open it.

Fixed

• Parley now starts after a single "Open Anyway". Before, macOS approved the app but kept blocking the helper Parley uses to connect to WhatsApp, and an alert kept popping up every couple of seconds. Parley now clears the download flag on its own helper once you've approved the app.
• No more popup loop. If the helper still can't start, Parley stops retrying and shows a one-line Terminal fix with a Copy Command button.
• Clear message if you run Parley from the disk image. Parley now asks you to move it into Applications first.

Install

1. Download Parley-0.1.2.dmg below and drag Parley to Applications, replacing any older version.
2. Open it. If macOS says it can't verify Parley, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. The app isn't notarized yet.
3. Scan the QR code with WhatsApp on your phone. Already linked? You stay signed in.

Still stuck on an older version? Quit Parley, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Parley.app in Terminal, and open it again.

A fix for notifications from muted chats.

Fixed

• Muted chats no longer send notifications. Parley was losing mutes that were set on your phone: while your chat history synced in the background, it reset those chats to "not muted". Pinned and archived chats could be reset the same way.
• "Mute: Always" is now respected when WhatsApp sends it without an end time.
• Your existing mutes come back automatically. The first time 0.1.1 connects, it re-syncs every chat's mute, pin and archive settings from your phone once. You don't need to re-link.

2. If macOS warns you, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway. The app isn't notarized yet.

Already linked? Just replace the app and open it. You stay signed in.

Highlights

• Link in seconds: scan a QR code from WhatsApp › Linked Devices, the same way WhatsApp Web links.
• Conversations: replies, reactions, edits, delete for everyone, forward, star, find (⌘F).
• Media: photos, videos, GIFs, stickers and documents. HEIC, MOV and GIF files are converted automatically.
• Voice messages: record with a live waveform, and play at 1× / 1.5× / 2×.
• Notifications: inline reply, Mark as Read, call alerts, and a Pause Notifications option.
