What's New?
- Ported changes from kirklandsigfork
- Removed save/load profile functionality (replaced by next item)
- Added Xbox 360-style settings menu
FAQ
Why did you remove the save/load profile functionality?
The save/load functionality I added in the previous release was unstable due to the ever-changing nature of the player data structure. Every time Microsoft pushed an update, there was a possibility of it breaking (and it did prior to kirklandsig's fork). Also, the previous implementation resulted in a lot of player's having to delete a json file multiple times and that is no fun.
Now that save/load profile is removed, how can I make my settings persist?
I have good news for you! The mod automatically saves the following settings whenever you close the menu:
- Keyboard and mouse for player 1 toggle
- Number of players
- Team assignments
- Controller configurations per players
- Color combinations of players
How does the menu work?
By default, the Xbox menu is bound to Start+Left Thumb button on controller and F4 on keyboard so as not to conflict with existing Steam/Windows binds. However, you can customize this to be whatever key or gamepad combination you want it to be via the alpha_ring_menu.cfg file in the MCC/Binares/Win64 directory. This feature was suggested by fffathur and SR388 in the Discord server.
Now that F4 opens the new Xbox menu, how can I access the old debug menu?
This is configurable too but by default, you can access this by pressing Start+Right Thumb button on controller or F1 on keyboard. This allows you to change all of the same settings you used to be able to change. However, they won't persist outside of a single session. Once you close the game, any settings not mirrored by the Xbox menu will be lost.
How can I change teams?
You can now change teams easily from the Xbox menu by simply navigating to the desired player's page, toggling the Red Team/Blue Team button and closing the menu. This feature was suggested by Kevin.exe and venomous_toxin in the Discord server.
Planned Features
- Implementing a bind button in the Xbox 360 UI similar to the one added to the debug menu by kirklandsig.
- Bug fixes
Note: you can recommend new features in the Discord server. I can't promise I will add them but I do read and consider all submissions.
Unofficial Release 1.2.1
AlphaRing Unofficial Release 1.2.1
- Fixed bugs present in release 1.2.0 that caused crashes when saving profile after applying profile.
FAQ
How can I save my settings?
Splitscreen settings (use player 1's profile, use k/m for player 1, etc...) are saved automatically whenever changed. Profile settings (name, controller, etc...) are saved individually to different player slots. Click "Save Profile" to write user settings to disk.
How can I reset my settings?
Go to the folder where you placed the WTSAPI32.dll file and delete settings.json
Why does it map everything to Left Trigger when I turn on override_profile?
This is a known issue with vanilla AlphaRing. It doesn't properly initialize mappings or profile so it assigns everything to Left Trigger by default. You can easily fix this by going into a game and hitting Apply Profile on a player. This will set everything to player 1's profile and mappings and you can tweak from there. Once you hit "Save Profile" it will save everything you did so you don't have to do it next time you play Halo MCC.
Planned Features
Now that I've added support for skins and mapping, I plan to overhaul the Apply Profile system. Currently, this only works in game. I envision a system where players can take turns using the menu to customize their character and mappings and then hitting Apply Profile to save the active setting to their player slot.
Unofficial Release 1.2
AlphaRing Unofficial Release 1.2
- Fixed major bugs present in release 1.1 that caused issues when settings.json hasn't been initialized yet.
- Added full profile and mapping support to save/load functionality.
- Changed "Load Profile" button text to "Apply Profile" button for a more fitting description

Unofficial Release 1.1
AlphaRing Unofficial Release 1.1
AlphaRing Unofficial Release 1.1 adds a simple JSON loader and save functionality to the mod. Now, when users make changes to the Splitscreen and Profile settings, they persist when the game is closed and reopened. Additionally, individual player profiles are saved when adding or subtracting players so users can change the player count without losing profile settings.

Important Note
I have not yet implemented saving for mapping or skins. This is planned for a later release. That being said, I didn't feel as it was of utmost importance considering skins are mainly an online multiplayer feature and due to the constraints of this mod, online play is not an option.
Planned Features
In addition to adding support for saving skins and mapping, I plan to overhaul the Load Profile system so editing player models is easier.
