Everyday Features

Getting around and saving

  • Running shoes: hold B to run. Mother gives them to you in a new scene when you first leave your bedroom.
  • Always Run is available in Options, so you do not have to keep holding B. With it enabled, hold B to walk instead; running still requires the running shoes.
  • Interact with trees, water, and boulders to get Cut, Surf, and Strength prompts.
  • Poison no longer damages Pokémon while walking.
  • Pokémon Centers heal without an extra confirmation question.
  • Trainers face you when they notice you.
  • Saving has fewer prompts and less waiting, with a brief result display.
  • The pause menu no longer has a separate EXIT entry.
  • Maximum playtime is 99,999:59:59.

Bag and item shortcuts

  • A graphical Bag with four pockets: Items, Balls, Key Items, and TMs/HMs.
  • Room for 50 item stacks, 10 Ball stacks, 21 Key Items, and 55 TMs/HMs. Ordinary stacks can hold 255 items.
  • Item descriptions stay visible, with pocket-capacity and scrolling indicators.
  • SELECT inside the Bag moves stacks and merges matching ones. Key Items and TMs/HMs use single entries.
  • The player's item PC is removed. Its Super Potion is now a hidden item at the bedroom PC.
  • The Master Ball is in the Balls pocket and cannot be sold or tossed.
  • Register one Key Item for quick use with SELECT in the overworld. Open the item's action menu and choose Select; doing this again clears the shortcut. Choosing another item replaces it, and the assignment is saved.
  • Supported shortcuts: Bicycle, Itemfinder, Old Rod, Good Rod, Super Rod, Type Chart, Town Map, Coin Case, and Poké Flute.
  • The Bicycle opens a Use / Select menu. Choose Use to mount or dismount. Normal restrictions still apply to shortcuts, including where cycling or fishing is allowed.
  • A Repel renewal prompt offers to use another of the same Repel when it wears off.
  • Itemfinder turns you toward a detected hidden item.

Type Chart

The Viridian school teacher gives you a reusable Type Chart after Grandpa's catching demonstration and school escort.

  • Use it from the Key Items pocket or register it to SELECT.
  • Shows all 15 types and their single-type matchups on one screen.
  • Read the attacking type on the left, and the defending type across the top.
  • Green: super effective. Red: resisted. Black: immune. White: normal damage.
  • Works with all four display modes, including readable monochrome labels.
  • A or B closes it. It cannot be consumed, sold, tossed, or used in battle.

TMs, supplies, and money

  • TMs are reusable, with no remaining quantity displayed.
  • Added Zinc and X Special Defense for the new Special Defense stat.
  • Healing amounts: Super Potion 60 HP, Hyper Potion 120 HP, Fresh Water 30 HP, Soda Pop 50 HP, Lemonade 70 HP.
  • Updated prices using Generation IX values where applicable. Items sell for one quarter of their purchase price, previously one half.
  • Start with 5,000, and carry up to 9,999,999.
  • Redesigned shops show item information and quantity selection. LEFT/RIGHT adjusts quantities by 10.
  • Celadon Mart 2F sells other supplies instead of TMs, including Rare Candy and PP Up for 9,999 each.

Game Corner

  • Buy 500 coins for 10,000.
  • Pokémon prizes are level 25: Ditto 1,337; Pinsir 2,500; Scyther 2,500; Eevee 4,600; Dratini 6,500; Porygon 9,999 coins.
  • TM prizes show move names: Dragon Rage 3,300; Hyper Beam 5,500; Substitute 7,700 coins.

Party, status, and move learning

  • A four-page, Generation II-inspired status screen with natural stats (DVs), training stats (EVs), move types/categories, power, and accuracy.
  • Switch pages and browse party members without closing the screen. Cries do not hold up navigation.
  • Colored page markers and faster sprite loading.
  • A redesigned move-learning screen shows power, accuracy, and effect descriptions before you replace a move.
  • SELECT swaps Pokémon directly in the party list, replacing the separate SWITCH command.
  • Party submenus wrap around and return to the party list when canceled.
  • A Move Relearner and Move Deleter live in Saffron's Pidgey house. Relearning costs 1,000; deletion is free and can remove HM moves.

Pokédex

  • Expanded entries show base stats, types, evolution information, moves learned on evolution, and level-up moves.
  • Press SELECT on any entry page to preview normal or shiny colors.
  • Height and weight use meters and kilograms.
  • Updated entry layout and caught-Pokémon symbol, improved AREA information, and faster loading.

Pokémon storage

  • Bill's PC has a Generation III-style graphical interface, with Pokémon pictures and individual minisprites.
  • Store 216 Pokémon in one collection, browsed as 12 pages of 18 slots in a 6 × 3 grid.
  • Manage the party alongside stored Pokémon.
  • SELECT picks up a Pokémon to move it between pages or between storage and the party. Move onto an occupied slot to swap.
  • Context menus provide summary, movement, release, and printing actions.
  • Clearer selection, page navigation, cancellation, and faster loading.

  • Expanded naming characters and automatic uppercase/lowercase switching after the first letter.
  • Dialogue uses normal capitalization throughout the game.

  • Choose between two fonts, original and NES-inspired, and 15 text-box frames.
  • Four color modes: Uncorrected, GBC correction, DMG Green, and Black/White.
  • Options and Cheats support holding directions to scroll.

Graphics, music, and presentation

  • Replaced Pokémon front sprites and updated selected back sprites and colors.
  • Unique Pokémon party minisprites, expanded overworld Pokémon graphics, and additional Gym Leader sprites.
  • Separate overworld graphics for Bill, books, the Town Map, and the Pokédex.
  • Updated player sprites, battle graphics, map tiles and colors, title screen, and Super Game Boy border.
  • NPC colors are independent of the player's colors.
  • A custom intro with revised music, Pokémon cries, and animation polish.
  • Elite Four battles use the Gym Leader battle theme.
  • The title/main menu includes a version identifier and a GitHub QR code.
  • Smoother transitions and faster loading throughout the menus, Pokédex, status screen, and storage. For machine locations and prices, see TMs Locations. For full move values, see Moves List.
