Material Workbench v0.2.1
Material Workbench v0.2.1 is a data-integrity patch release.
Fixed:
- Deleting a media-purpose category now affects only authoritative assets of the selected media type.
- Same-named categories and assignments in other media types remain intact.
- Configured mounted documents follow the same category lifecycle as other editable documents.
- Category deletion fails closed while the library is refreshing or when the catalogue cannot be validated.
- Untyped or ambiguous historical assignments are preserved rather than guessed.
Documentation:
- Added Product Vision, Roadmap, and Capability Status documents.
- Clarified that Premiere is the first guarded client boundary, not the product boundary; Blender, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut/Jianying, and first-class 3D assets remain exploration areas.
- Planned and exploring items are not shipped features.
Upgrade note:
- v0.2.1 prevents future cross-media logical-category loss but cannot infer assignments that may already have been cleared by v0.2.0. If you deleted a category that shared its name with another media type, inspect your automatic metadata backups.
- This bug did not move, rename, overwrite, or delete media files.
- The optional external Adobe host bridge remains unbundled.
Verification:
- GitHub Actions CI 31839795367 passed on Python 3.11 and 3.13.
- Public release suite: 555 Python tests, 10 Node bridge tests, and synthetic first-run smoke.
Material Workbench v0.2.0
Highlights
- Separates required project/purpose organization from optional search-metadata enhancement.
- Adds editable project templates, context-preserving batch management, and project-category controls in asset preview.
- Redesigns material management with clearer information layers, fixed pagination, continuous cross-page preview, and independently expandable filter domains.
- Replaces the legacy SREF entry with a native inspiration-card library for cases, recipes, and knowledge.
- Makes Desktop intake copy-first by default, with explicit move mode, exact-content repeat protection, and clear relinking warnings.
Safety
Material Workbench remains local-first and Agent-assisted rather than Agent-dependent. This release contains no runtime library indexes, user metadata, Adobe dependency ledger, transaction journal, machine-local configuration, or private media.
Validation
- Windows CI: Python 3.11 and 3.13
- Public test suite: 551 Python tests
- Adobe bridge contract: 10 Node tests
- JavaScript syntax and synthetic first-run smoke: passed
See CHANGELOG.md for the complete change list.
Material Workbench v0.1.0
Material Workbench is a local-first Windows media workbench for creative production.
Highlights:
- Browse and organize video, image, audio, and document assets across projects.
- Transactional project-media migration and exact-duplicate cleanup with preview, confirmation, journaling, and recovery safeguards.
- Optional guarded Premiere Pro import that keeps source media in place and fails closed when the active project cannot be verified.
- Portable local configuration, synthetic demo library, and documented first-run workflow.
Safety and validation:
- The public repository contains no runtime library data, thumbnails, user annotations, local configuration, bridge tokens, or real project files.
- 479 Python tests and 10 Node bridge contract tests pass locally.
- GitHub Actions validates Python 3.11 and 3.13, JavaScript syntax, Node bridge contracts, and a synthetic first-run scan.
- The external Adobe bridge is optional and is not distributed by this repository.
