Block conversion
Glow berries are also the key to moss: apply one under a stone block, then let it work.
- Place a stone block (regular stone only).
- Apply a glow berry on its underside — a cave vines block appears.
- Look at the cave vines (within 7 blocks) to start the conversion.
- After 5 minutes, the stone turns into a pale moss block.
- After 5 more minutes (10 in total), the pale moss turns into a moss block.
Falling spore particles, a splash sound and moss sounds mark each step.
Important
The process stops if the cave vines or the block above them disappear, or if the chunk is unloaded.
Tip
Look at the cave vines to start the process.
Dirt is pretty rare in Skyblock, but there is a recipe that turns dirt + gravel into coarse dirt.
Gravel itself is fairly easy to get, although it can be expensive early on: put smooth stone in a stonecutter. Having been cooked twice, the stone is nicely weakened — much easier to cut up.
Note
2 dirt + 2 gravel give 4 coarse dirt, then throw them in water to get dirt back (see Dirt).
Tip
Andesite works in the stonecutter too, if you happen to have some.
Husks can spawn naturally. When killed by a player, they have a 33% chance to drop 2 sand in addition to their normal loot.
Once again you will need a stonecutter: put a clay block in it to get sand.
Note
Prerequisite: you must have obtained dripstone. Mud can be turned into clay with it — let water drip from a pointed dripstone onto the mud, and it slowly becomes clay.
Build a tower of coarse dirt, hoe it block by block and mine all the way down… that's over. Now all you have to do is:
Throw coarse dirt into water (source or flowing) and let the magic happen. Stacks work too.
Note
Five seconds in the water and the whole stack turns into dirt. If the item leaves the water, the timer resets.
Tip
Bubbles, a splash and a level-up sound confirm the conversion.
The old way? Place a dirt block, fill a bottle, click on the dirt, mine the mud. Really tedious — so here is the solution:
Throw dirt onto a full water cauldron and wait five seconds. Stacks work too.
Note
The cauldron empties as it converts: one full cauldron per batch. Refill it with a water bucket for the next one.
Tip
Bubbles and a splash show the conversion running — the level-up sound means your mud is ready.
Building a Nether portal with lava is dangerous — and rather than handing you the obsidian it takes, here is how to make your own:
- Fill an empty cauldron with a lava bucket.
- Right-click the lava cauldron with a water bucket: the lava cools down, the cauldron empties and an obsidian block appears.
- Right-click the obsidian again to collect it as an item.
Note
Prerequisite: you must have obtained dripstone — it is how you get lava in the first place.
Tip
One lava cauldron gives one obsidian. The first click uses up your water bucket (you get the empty bucket back).
Strays can spawn naturally. When killed by a player, they have a 33% chance to drop a snowball in addition to their normal loot.
Some farms require ice. Once you have gathered enough snowballs, craft a snow block and use it on a cauldron:
- Fill a cauldron with water.
- Right-click the water cauldron with a snow block: the water freezes and an ice block appears.
- Right-click the ice again to collect it as an item.
Note
Each ice block uses one cauldron of water — fill it again with a water bucket for the next one.
Tip
You can also build a snow golem: it leaves a trail of snow behind it, which you can shovel up for snowballs.
A block as useful as ice — well, in some cases. Here is how to get the magma block, and you already know the drill:
- Fill a cauldron with lava.
- Right-click the lava cauldron with netherrack: the lava cools into a magma block.
- Right-click the magma block again to collect it as an item.
Note
Each magma block uses one cauldron of lava — refill it with a lava bucket for the next one.
Just like the vanilla Mud → Clay conversion, you can obtain sulfur spikes the same way, replacing the mud with a magma block:
- The magma block turns into blackstone.
- The pointed dripstone (tip facing down) turns into a sulfur spike.
- If an empty cauldron is placed underneath, it has a small chance of filling with lava.
Note
The cauldron must be empty and placed 1 to 3 blocks below the spike, with only air in between.
Tip
Look at the magma block or the dripstone tip to start the process — no item needed. It takes a few minutes on average.
Just like Craftinsky's Coarse Dirt → Dirt conversion, throw netherrack into a sulfur source — a water block with a Potent Sulfur block underneath.
Five seconds later, it turns into cinnabar. Stacks work too.
Note
The Potent Sulfur can be 1 to 3 blocks below, as long as there is water in between. Take the item out of the water and the timer resets.
