MeshCore DeskOS D1L 1.10.0

DeskOS 1.10.0 adds saved QWERTY, AZERTY and QWERTZ letter layouts and accented Latin input at Standard and Large text sizes. Choose a layout under Settings / Display & clock / Keyboard. Tap áé for accents, ABC/abc for case and Back for the alphabet. The 1# / 2# pages expose all printable ASCII characters, including dollar signs, brackets and backslash for passwords and messages.

Changing the layout preserves existing text, cursor position and case. The interface remains English; messages retain their 138-byte UTF-8 limit. Nothing is sent by changing the layout or opening a character page.

Install

Use Update DeskOS in the Canadaverse flasher to preserve an existing identity, contacts, settings and SD data. The complete ZIP includes the paired RP2040 bridge, preserving and clean ESP32 images, signed SD update, checksums, guide and font-license notices. The signed-SD ZIP uses the correct deskos/updates/ paths. Firmware never formats the card.

The layout is an independent display-preference key. Existing identity/history formats, BLE protocol, signed updater and RP2040 firmware are unchanged. These are compact letter layouts and a Latin character page, not every national desktop keyboard or input method.

Verified

Exact source: f1aaa565289afb839a10f75decc91957b360de0e.

Actions 37868369226 passed all five jobs, including 2,643 host tests with seven platform skips, protocol conformance and both firmware builds. The exact source also built on the Pi with ESP-IDF 5.5.4, one compiler job and a 768 MiB memory limit. Real LVGL tests exercised layouts, hidden inputs, cursor preservation, glyph bitmaps, accent/case changes, multibyte backspace, complete printable ASCII and message-byte limits.

The signed Actions package was verified and installed on the D1L. Identity, all 64 contacts, original settings and eight saved DM rows were preserved. AZERTY survived a controlled restart, QWERTZ saved correctly, invalid choices were rejected and QWERTY was restored. The user confirmed physical accent entry/backspace and the additional symbols page.

Windows Bluetooth passed encrypted/authenticated/bonded access with MTU 517, contact synchronization, shared policy restoration, Public radio transmission, two confirmed DMs containing café (14.52 and 7.62 seconds) and self telemetry. Both messages were retained verbatim. The Bluetooth tests stayed on one boot with 7,984 bytes of worker-stack headroom; original settings were restored. The production flasher verified the exact image, radio, bridge and SD over one USB connection.

One packet-log primary write timed out after restart and recovered automatically. The log reconciled, subsequent commits succeeded, the error/degraded state cleared, and no additional SD failures were recorded during the checked interval. The retained packet archive reported no failed history appends. Slow or unavailable cards remain visible to the user.

Remaining scope

The official phone UI and a new physical signed-SD installation were not repeated. Earlier physical signed-SD update and rollback are documented with 1.8.0. Remote telemetry/TRACE responses depend on peers and routes and were not requalified here.

Interface localization, other scripts, structured cross-client replies, optional sensors and the wider WadaMesh app suite remain on the roadmap.
