Guttered 0.7.1

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 11 Oct 19:28

Rename the optional desktop companion to Guttered Remote/WSL Helper in its Marketplace listing, command titles, setup documentation, settings, and connection messages.

The extension ID remains nathangerday.guttered-workbench, so existing installations can update normally. The workbench hook payload is unchanged; this rename does not require reinstalling the hook. Both packages are versioned 0.7.1 to keep the main extension and helper matched.

Validation: TypeScript/build checks, packaged names and command IDs, and byte-identical helper/main hook payloads matching version 0.7.0. Attached SHA-256 checksums identify the published packages.

Guttered 0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 11 Oct 19:01

Guttered 0.7.0 replaces the custom diff panel with VS Code’s native diff views. Syntax highlighting now follows installed language grammars, the working file’s language mode, and editor token-color rules, including Clojure .clj, .cljc, and .cljs files.

  • Native diff editor is the default. Compare inline or side by side, use VS Code’s undoable Revert Block/Selection actions, and open the working file or copy the change’s patch from the toolbar.
  • Inline Quick Diff (Experimental) previews changes inside the file, with Guttered-specific Revert Change, Copy Patch, and Full Diff actions. Git remains available in the same baseline selector. A hover action or injected glyph click may initially select Git; choose Guttered merge base in the preview’s dropdown. The native full diff always opens Guttered’s comparison directly.
  • Gutter clicks (Experimental) can open either selected view with a plain left click. The optional Guttered Workbench companion installs and restores the desktop-client hook from Windows/WSL, SSH, or container windows. Breakpoints and gutter context menus remain available.

Run Guttered: Select Diff View to switch modes. Quick Diff and the workbench hook remain opt-in. The hook modifies a desktop VS Code file, may trigger an installation-integrity warning, and must be restored with Disable Gutter Clicks and Restore Workbench before uninstalling.

Install Guttered from the Marketplace or use guttered-0.7.0.vsix below. For remote workspaces, install Guttered remotely. To manage the hook from those windows, install Guttered Workbench or guttered-workbench-0.7.0.vsix locally in the Windows/desktop client. The helper is optional when the hook was already enabled in a local window. Keep both versions matched and reload VS Code after upgrading.

Documentation includes new native Clojure screenshots, the Quick Diff selector, and Windows/WSL setup. The separate syntax worker and grammar dependencies have been removed.

Validation: 62 unit tests, TypeScript/build and package checks, desktop integration on VS Code 1.95.3 and 1.141.0, native Clojure colors and diff actions, and two-host remote glyph clicks with breakpoint/context-menu preservation. Attached SHA-256 checksums identify the exact published packages.

Guttered 0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 11 Oct 14:21

Guttered 0.6.0 adds a custom merge-base diff panel. Hover over changed code and click Open change diff to open the selected change, including unsaved edits.

  • Compare inline or side by side, with syntax colors and character-change highlights.
  • Revert the displayed change without saving or staging, and undo that revert.
  • Navigate between changes, copy a complete patch, open the source file, or open VS Code’s full diff.
  • Open working files directly from the Open File icon in Branch Changes.

Syntax colors adapt to dark, light, and high-contrast themes. Custom editor token-color rules and semantic highlighting are not mirrored. The hover action can be disabled with guttered.hoverAction.

Validation: 58 unit tests, TypeScript/build checks, and desktop integration and panel checks on VS Code 1.95.3 and 1.141.0.

Install from the Visual Studio Marketplace, or download the attached VSIX.

Guttered 0.5.1

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 11 Oct 11:24

The screenshots now show Guttered's default glyph-margin markers in dark and light themes, the gutter menu alongside VS Code's breakpoint actions, the optional inset hover preview, and the native merge-base diff with unsaved edits.

This release also includes fixes for deletion markers on wrapped lines, hides gutter actions in non-file editors, and cancels diff or restore commands if the document changes while switching editors.

Validation: TypeScript checks and all 46 unit tests pass. All 13 desktop integration checks pass on VS Code 1.141.0 and 1.95.3. The screenshots were captured and checked in desktop VS Code using the 0.5.1 build.

Install from the VS Code Marketplace, or download the attached guttered-0.5.1.vsix and run Extensions: Install from VSIX….

Guttered 0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 11 Oct 10:15

Guttered's markers now sit in the glyph margin alongside breakpoints, so the text starts at its usual position. Right-click the line number or glyph margin of a changed line to open the diff or restore the change at that line, below VS Code's breakpoint actions.

VS Code doesn't add a breakpoint when you click the glyph margin of a changed line; use Add Breakpoint from the gutter's right-click menu or press F9. A breakpoint on a changed line widens the margin to a second column, and marker previews are unavailable in this placement. Set guttered.gutterPlacement to inset for the previous placement, which keeps breakpoint clicks free and previews changes on hover.

This release also fixes Open Diff with Merge Base in the editor's Guttered context menu, which reported an invalid diff target.

Validation: all 46 unit tests, TypeScript checks, and packaging pass; desktop integration tests pass on VS Code 1.141.0 and 1.95.3. In desktop VS Code, glyph-margin markers render beside breakpoints, the gutter menu lists Guttered's actions only on changed lines, and its Restore and Open Diff actions apply to the clicked line.

Guttered 0.4.3

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 10 Oct 18:43

Guttered no longer adds branch changes to the Source Control icon count. The badge now reflects VS Code’s normal local Git changes, while the Branch Changes file list remains available.

Validation: all 45 automated tests, TypeScript checks, and packaging pass. In desktop VS Code, six committed branch changes produce no icon count; one saved local change shows 1, unaffected by toggling Guttered.

Guttered 0.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 10 Oct 08:52

Fix the invisible Toggle On/Off button in the Guttered: Branch Changes toolbar. The button now uses a supported VS Code icon and remains available when Guttered is off.

Install the attached guttered-0.4.1.vsix with Extensions: Install from VSIX….

Verified visible off/on clicks on VS Code 1.95.3 and 1.141.0. TypeScript and packaging checks pass.

Guttered 0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 10 Oct 08:45

Guttered 0.4.0 adds a workspace toggle and a branch-changes tree in Source Control.

  • Toggle Guttered on or off from the Command Palette, actions menu, or tree toolbar. The choice is remembered for the workspace.
  • Browse changed files under their parent folders, including committed, staged, unstaged, untracked, and unsaved changes.
  • Use your file icon theme, with green A, blue M, and red D badges.
  • Click a file to open VS Code’s diff view against the selected reference’s merge base, including unsaved edits. Added and deleted files use an empty side.
  • Update the tree automatically while visible and stop comparison work when Guttered is off.

Install the attached guttered-0.4.0.vsix with Extensions: Install from VSIX…. Requires desktop VS Code 1.95 or newer and Git.

Validation: 45 tests pass; TypeScript and packaging checks pass. File clicks, badge updates, unsaved edits, and reference changes were verified in the desktop editor.

Guttered 0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@nathangerday nathangerday released this 10 Oct 00:45

Guttered 0.3.0 adds diff previews on branch-change markers and a filterable branch picker.

Changes

  • Hover over a marker to preview the removed and added lines, including unsaved edits. The preview stays separate from code documentation. Click Open Diff with Merge Base to open VS Code's diff view at that change.
  • Change Base Reference now lists local and remote-tracking branches. Type to filter them. Default branch (automatic) is the first choice, and every selection still compares from its merge base with HEAD. You can also enter a tag, commit, or other reference.

Marker previews require visible editor inlay hints with Editor: Inlay Hints: Padding turned off (VS Code's defaults). Markers and the diff command remain available when hints are hidden or padded.

Install

  1. Download guttered-0.3.0.vsix below.
  2. In VS Code, run Extensions: Install from VSIX… and select the file.
  3. Reload the window if prompted.

For Remote–WSL, install from a WSL-connected window. Guttered runs in WSL and uses WSL's Git.

Requires VS Code 1.95+ and Git 2.30+. See the README for settings and limitations.

Validation

TypeScript checks and all 41 automated tests pass. Desktop verification on VS Code 1.95.3 and 1.141.0 covers independent marker previews, native diff navigation, and branch selection.

Guttered 0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

Changes

  • Softer markers at 30% opacity by default. Adjust them with guttered.opacity.
  • Continuous bars across adjacent changed lines, including with custom line spacing.
  • Aligned indentation guides across empty lines.
  • Native Git indicators remain separate and more prominent.

Install

  1. Download guttered-0.2.0.vsix below.
  2. In VS Code, run Extensions: Install from VSIX… and select the file.
  3. Reload the window if prompted.
