Dev diary: https://youtu.be/YvDqCwzFNps
Downloads
- Tekken3Expanded-1.2.0-PC.zip: Windows and macOS. Entry point: Setup Tekken 3.
- Tekken3Expanded-1.2.0-Android.zip: Android APK, built on Windows or macOS. Entry point: Build Android APK.
Added
- Android build (experimental): Build Android APK sets up the game and builds
Tekken3Expanded.apk(arm64, Android 9 or later). No PC install required. - Android: touch controls, touch layout editor (Back → Touch controls layout), controller support.
- TTT Cinematics (optional add-on): Kazuya's Tekken Tag Tournament ending at the end of his Arcade run, in place of the ending movie. Kazuya only for now.
- TTT Cinematics music (optional): the ending's original music, read from the Tekken Tag Tournament (USA) PS2 disc (SLUS-20001). Without it: Tekken 3 music.
- TTT movesets for Kuma, Ogre, Gun Jack and True Ogre (MOVESET card, Combo Training, True Ogre's fire). 18 Tekken 3 characters now have one.
- CPU MOVESET option (Options): the CPU draws its moveset once per fight (original, TTT or random).
- TTT portraits for Panda and Tiger.
- Tetsujin gold costume (Start).
- Unknown's second costume.
- TTT hand poses (closed fists) for the TTT characters.
- Wing flaps for Devil and Angel when jumping.
- Face expressions per costume: blinking, eyes closed when hit.
- Devil and Angel lasers: fired along the character's facing, arcade beam sprite with its fade, Air Inferno upwards, floor sparks.
- CPU side-steps Devil and Angel lasers, scaled by difficulty.
- Haywire reaction of the Jack characters hit by Devil's and Angel's lasers.
- Metallic hit sounds for Jack-2 and P.Jack.
- Full TTT strong-hit effect with its fade-out.
- KO cry echo for the TTT characters.
- Practice ATTACK DATA: "!" for unguardable hits.
- Launcher: hide mouse cursor setting.
- T3E icon on Tekken 3 Expanded (
.exe/.app) and on the game executable.
Changed
- MAME is no longer required: the TTT characters, their sounds and the arcade difficulty levels are read from the ROM zips.
- The game executable is now
Tekken_3_Expanded.exe(wasTekken_3_Recompiled.exe). - True Ogre draws his own moveset when he replaces Ogre.
- Performance improvements on all platforms.
Fixed
- Options > Records crash with TTT characters; TTT characters now listed in Records.
- Tekken Force with a TTT character: boss freezes, upside-down enemies, 16:9 flicker.
- Survival: wins and results did not count TTT characters; announcer said only "wins".
- Team Battle: Random fill and CPU teams without TTT characters; winner's name not announced; Panda and Tiger thumbnails garbled.
- Juggled opponent landing face up instead of face down (e.g. Kazuya CH WGF).
- No guard possible during the stagger kicks.
- MOVESET card on Start; Xiaoyu, Tiger and Jin third costumes not selectable.
- Embu TTT garbled after the demo fight; Kunimitsu's hit effect in the Embu.
- Lee's leg clipping.
- Unknown's strong-hit effect.
- Command List icons garbled after a fight.
- Locked roster's second row hidden in 16:9.
- Launcher: HOTKEYS shortcuts not working; master volume not saved.
- Single-file disc dump refused when chosen by its
.bin.
Update from 1.1.x
- Copy the new files into your existing
tekken3-expandedfolder (git pull, or the contents of the PC ZIP's folder, Yes to All). - Start Setup Tekken 3, click Update & play. The TTT characters are imported again from
tektagt.zip: keep it available. - Steam Deck: add
build-release/Tekken_3_Expanded.exeto Steam again (the old executable is deleted).
New install
Download the ZIP for your platform, extract all of it (7-Zip on Windows), start Setup Tekken 3 (PC) or Build Android APK (Android). Instructions: README.
No game files are included. You need your own Tekken 3 (USA) disc image and your own Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 3 arcade ROMs: see What you need.
Bugs: issues.
Tekken 3 Expanded v1.1.3
Important
Tekken 3 Expanded 1.1.3: easier to start, lighter on disk, and a first Steam Deck guide. Same characters, same features. If you already play 1.1.x, you don't need to reinstall: update your folder (below), and the setup takes about a minute.
New
- Tekken 3 Expanded.exe (Windows) and Tekken 3 Expanded.app (macOS): at the end of the setup, a double-click app appears next to the setup script. No more going through the setup script to play. On Windows, you can pin it to Start or send a shortcut to the desktop.
- Free up disk space: at the end of the setup, you're offered, once, to delete the files only the setup uses (the downloaded tools, the TTT import's work files and the build's intermediate files). The game keeps working. The catch: the next update that rebuilds the game runs the whole first setup again (about 17 minutes) and needs your game files again. Details in the README's Disk space section.
- Steam Deck (experimental): a guide to play on the Deck with Proton, after setting the game up on a Windows PC: Steam Deck. It hasn't been tested much yet, so please tell me how it goes in an issue, working or not.
Update from 1.1.x (no reinstall)
- Put the new files into the
tekken3-expandedfolder you already set up:- git: run
git pullin the folder; - ZIP: download Source code (zip) below, extract it with 7-Zip, then copy the contents of its
tekken3-expanded-1.1.3folder into your existing folder, replacing every file (Yes to All).
- git: run
- Start Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows) or Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS). The setup window opens with your files already filled in: click Set up & play. It rebuilds the game in about a minute; your imported TTT characters, saves and settings are kept.
- From then on, start the game with Tekken 3 Expanded.
Don't move .setup, workspace or build-release to a new folder: the build would fail there. Updating in place is all it takes.
New install
Download Source code (zip) below, extract all of it (7-Zip on Windows), then run Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS) or Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows). About 17 minutes the first time. Step-by-step instructions are in the README.
No game files are included. You provide your own Tekken 3 disc image and your own Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 3 arcade ROMs. See What you need for the exact versions.

Tekken 3 Expanded v1.1.2 (hotfix: launcher)
Important
Hotfix for 1.1.1: the launcher opens again. Nothing else changes: same characters, same features. If you already play 1.1.0 or 1.1.1, you don't need to reinstall: update your folder (below).
Fixed
- The game started without its launcher. Starting the game went straight into Tekken 3, so the launcher (controls, keyboard keys, display, audio) could only be opened from a terminal with
--settings. The game now opens on its launcher: click PLAY to start. To go straight into the game next time, tick Skip launcher on boot. --settingswas sometimes ignored: right after a setup (first run or an update), on macOS without the setup window, and in the Terminal setup. It now always opens the launcher, even when Skip launcher on boot is ticked, so you can untick it.
Update (no reinstall)
- Put the new files into the
tekken3-expandedfolder you already set up:- git: run
git pullin the folder; - ZIP: download Source code (zip) below, extract it with 7-Zip, then copy the contents of its
tekken3-expanded-1.1.2folder into your existing folder, replacing every file (Yes to All).
- git: run
- Start Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows) or Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS).
- From 1.1.1: the launcher opens right away. There is nothing to rebuild.
- From 1.1.0: the setup window opens with your files already filled in. Click Set up & play: it rebuilds the game in about a minute, and your imported TTT characters, saves and settings are kept.
Don't move .setup, workspace or build-release to a new folder: the build would fail there. Updating in place is all it takes.
New install
Nothing changes from 1.1.0: download Source code (zip) below, extract all of it (7-Zip on Windows), then run Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS) or Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows). About 17 minutes the first time. Step-by-step instructions are in the README.
No game files are included. You provide your own Tekken 3 disc image and your own Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 3 arcade ROMs. See What you need for the exact versions.

Tekken 3 Expanded v1.1.1 (hotfix: keyboard controls)
Important
Hotfix for 1.1.0: keyboard controls. Nothing else changes: same characters, same features. If you already play 1.1.0, you don't need to reinstall: update your folder (below), and the setup takes about a minute instead of 17.
Fixed
- Keyboard keys could not be changed. In the launcher, a player set to Keyboard only saw "Select a gamepad as Input source to configure bindings". Keyboard players now get their own key list: click a button, press the new key. Each button also takes a second key or a mouse button.
- One key could move both players. The launcher gave player 2 the same keys as player 1, so after changing one of player 2's keys there, both players shared the rest. Player 2 now starts on their own keys, the same as in the game: I J K L, U / O and the numeric keypad (on a Mac: F G V B and the number row).
Update from 1.1.0 (no reinstall)
- Put the new files into the
tekken3-expandedfolder you already set up:- git: run
git pullin the folder; - ZIP: download Source code (zip) below, extract it with 7-Zip, then copy the contents of its
tekken3-expanded-1.1.1folder into your existing folder, replacing every file (Yes to All).
- git: run
- Start Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows) or Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS). The setup window opens with your files already filled in: click Set up & play. It rebuilds the game in about a minute; your imported TTT characters, saves and settings are kept.
Don't move .setup, workspace or build-release to a new folder: the build would fail there. Updating in place is all it takes.
Change your keys
Open the launcher: in the tekken3-expanded folder, run "Setup Tekken 3.cmd" --settings from the command prompt (macOS: ./"Setup Tekken 3.command" --settings in Terminal). Set the player's input source to Keyboard, then click Configure. The default keys for both players are in the README.

Tekken 3 Expanded v1.1.0
Tekken 3 Expanded puts the 18 characters Tekken Tag Tournament added to the roster into Tekken 3, playable in every mode and fought by the CPU. It runs on Tekken3Recompiled.
TRAILER: https://youtu.be/Th9PMY7SybA
No game files are included. You provide your own Tekken 3 disc image and your own Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 3 arcade ROMs; the setup builds everything from them on your machine. See What you need for the exact versions.
New in 1.1.0
- The first setup is about 4 times faster: about 17 minutes from nothing on an 8-core Windows 11 PC (downloads, TTT1 import and build included), instead of about an hour. The imported characters are the same, checked file by file.
- Windows works: fixes for the build, the TTT1 import and the arcade difficulty levels on Windows 10 / 11.
- The move lists no longer need the network: the Tekken wiki pages they come from are now in the repository (CC BY-SA 3.0). Before, a failed download could leave characters without a COMMAND LIST.
- The setup checks
tekken3.zipup front and goes on without the arcade difficulty levels if it is not the TET2/VER.E1 set.
Highlights
- 18 playable TTT characters, on a Tag page of the select screen (L2 / R2), with all their costumes, voices, sounds, portraits and strong-hit effects.
- TTT movesets for 14 of Tekken 3's cast, chosen on a MOVESET card; move lists and Combo Training follow, 88 TTT combos in all.
- Unknown with 23 styles (L1), Tetsujin drawing a moveset every round, Devil and Angel lasers that hit.
- CPU opponents in every mode, a Tekken Force boss route for every guest, the arcade difficulty levels, 16:9 fixes, everything unlocked.
Install
Download Source code (zip) below, extract all of it (7-Zip on Windows), then run Setup Tekken 3.command (macOS) or Setup Tekken 3.cmd (Windows). Step-by-step instructions are in the README.
Platforms: macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows 10 / 11.
Tekken 3 Expanded v1.0.0 (deprecated)
Warning
Deprecated: use v1.1.0. This version's first setup is about 4 times slower, and its move lists depend on downloads that can fail.
