Launch reliability

Fixed a macOS menu-bar scene restoration failure that could make Chime exit immediately after launch with no crash report.

Chime now owns its status-item insertion state, so a stale hidden menu-bar scene can no longer remove its only UI scene or terminate the app. Existing alert, sound, glow, and monitoring preferences are preserved.

Verification

• Reproduced the original clean-exit behavior using the public app identity.
• Confirmed the signed Distribution build remains running under the same stale state.
• 78 deterministic tests passed.
• The attached DMG is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarized, stapled, and Gatekeeper accepted.

Lower-energy monitoring

• Idle recovery checks now run at a low frequency, while fast scans run only for an active response or its final confirmation.
• Active provider scans no longer force a second provider to be rescanned at the same cadence.
• The verified Stop control is cached while a response streams. If it changes or disappears, Chime safely returns to a bounded full Accessibility scan.
• Removed the loop that could rescan every 250 ms while an app continued to expose its Stop control.

• 78 deterministic tests passed.
• The release DMG is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarized, stapled, and Gatekeeper accepted.
• Live idle profiling showed 0.0% current CPU after the cache change and no Chime-owned sleep-prevention assertion.

Accessibility identity fix

This release fixes the case where Chime reported "No access" even though Accessibility was enabled in System Settings.

Root cause

Local Xcode and DerivedData builds used the same bundle identifier as the downloaded app, but had a different code signature. macOS correctly treated the running build as a different Accessibility client, while the login item could keep launching that temporary copy.

What changed

• Normal source builds are now clearly named Chime 4 Breakfast Dev.
• Source builds use the separate identifier app.chime4breakfast.debug.
• Only the signed Distribution build owns app.chime4breakfast.
• Debug signing and launch scripts no longer replace or reset the downloaded app.
• CI now prevents these identities from ever collapsing again.

Update

Quit Chime 4 Breakfast, open the DMG, and replace the existing app in Applications. The Developer ID identity is unchanged, so the existing Accessibility grant should remain valid.

Apple notarized and Gatekeeper verified.

Reliability fixes

• Chime now requires a confirmed completion edge before alerting. Streaming Codex or Claude text cannot trigger a sound, glow, or banner by itself.
• The watcher inspects additional Accessibility metadata to recognize supported Stop controls more reliably.
• Accessibility is no longer prompted automatically at startup. The app shows a clear setup state and opens Settings only when you choose it.

Update

Download Chime-4-Breakfast.dmg, replace the app in Applications, then reopen it. Existing Accessibility access remains associated with the signed Applications app.
