Creating a virtual machine

The outline below is a quick overview of the steps need to requisition a virtual machine on Duke's VM-Manage website.

1. Go to https://vm-manage.oit.duke.edu/

   • You will need your NetID and password to login

2. Click the link that say "New" in the top right hand of the page

3. Enter the appropriate Requester Information

4. Give the "project" a name such as "Bio723-VM"

5. On the Server page choose "Bioinformatics (iPython/Anaconda)"

6. Agree to the terms of use on the Agreement page and finish the registration

Within a few minutes you should receive a confirmation email with information about the VM that has been requisitioned. From the VM-Manage website choose the "Manage" tab to get some basic information about your VM and to get the initial password.

Login to your VM

• With the user information and password for your VM, use an SSH client to login to your virtual machine using the username bitnami and the password provided in the "Manage" tab of the VM-Manage website.
