AI Assistants (MCP)

ForkLeaf includes a Model Context Protocol server, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop and other MCP-compatible assistants can search, read and write your notes.

Every write is an ordinary commit in your repository, marked forkleaf:, so it shows up in the history and can be undone.

The easy way: nothing to install

Add ForkLeaf's hosted server to your assistant. For Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http forkleaf https://www.forkleaf.in/api/mcp

Your assistant opens ForkLeaf so you can sign in and choose a repository. No token to create. In the editor, All tools → Connect an AI assistant shows the steps for each assistant.

Things to ask

  • "Search my notes for everything about the sync engine."
  • "Summarise this week's meeting notes."
  • "Add a note to my reading list about this paper."
  • "Use my research repository for this."

Run the server yourself

See packages/mcp/README.md for running it locally with your own GitHub token.
