Open www.forkleaf.in/editor and click New note. Everything works straight away: writing, links, diagrams, search and export. Notes are saved in your browser until you connect GitHub.
- Click Continue with GitHub on www.forkleaf.in.
- Choose where your notes live: an existing repository, or a new private one that ForkLeaf creates for you.
- Keep writing. Each change is saved to your browser first, then committed to your repository. Rapid edits to one note are combined into a single clean commit.
ForkLeaf asks for the repo scope because it writes to private repositories. If you only keep notes in public repositories, choose Public repositories only on the sign-in page.
| Try this | How |
|---|---|
| Jump to any note or command | Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) |
| Insert a heading, table or diagram | Type / in a note |
| Link two notes | Type [[ and pick a note; links to unwritten notes are fine |
| See what links here | Open the document panel on the right |
| Switch editing mode | Rich, Split or Source at the top of the editor |
| Draw a diagram |
/ → Diagram, then pick a template or draw on the canvas |
| See a note's history | Open the history view to browse every version |
Your repository is plain Markdown. Clone it, edit it in VS Code or Obsidian, or run git log on it. ForkLeaf picks up outside changes on its next sync.
