MenuBarIO 0.8.2
MenuBarIO 0.8.2
USB devices connected directly to newer Macs now occupy their physical USB-C
host port when macOS provides an explicit UsbIOPort reference. This prevents
an occupied port from appearing free while its device remains in Other USB Devices.
Thunderbolt/USB4 docks now report active DisplayPort outputs. If macOS does not
identify the physical display connector, otherwise unassigned dock ports show
Occupancy unknown instead of Free. Details and diagnostic exports explain
the limitation; existing USB and Thunderbolt assignments remain intact.
Display configuration changes trigger a delayed topology refresh.
Version 0.8.2, build 16. Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 15+.
GPL-3.0-or-later; the preserved MIT notice remains in LICENSE.upstream.
Corresponding source
(source archive).
Validation: 110 local tests, static analysis and the Apple Silicon archive passed.
Live Mac Studio checks covered direct USB assignment, dock replugging and active
DisplayPort detection. Automated visual acceptance, a clean-Mac installation,
and a fresh macOS 15 hardware check remain unverified.
MenuBarIO 0.8.2 — Deutsch
Direkt an neueren Macs angeschlossene USB-Geräte belegen jetzt ihren physischen
Thunderbolt-/USB4-Docks zeigen jetzt aktive DisplayPort-Ausgänge an. Liefert
zugeordneten Dock-Ports Belegung unbekannt statt Frei.
bleiben erhalten. Änderungen der Bildschirmkonfiguration lösen eine verzögerte
Aktualisierung der Topologie aus.
Version 0.8.2, Build 16. Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 15+.
GPL-3.0-or-later; der erhaltene MIT-Hinweis steht in LICENSE.upstream.
Zugehöriger Quellcode
(Quellcodearchiv).
MenuBarIO 0.8.1
MenuBarIO 0.8.1
This patch release switches the local Developer ID signing default to the G2 certificate. The release script selects the unambiguous SHA-1 fingerprint D548540E7FE1BD9B3C4518CC02D8786E1BFEB885 and checks that the selected identity is valid before creating an artifact. MENUBARIO_SIGNING_IDENTITY remains available as an override.
The source handoff also records the earlier archival and removal of legacy MenuBarUSB-TB and PortGlance GitHub releases. Their verified local archive is excluded from Git. This does not change the app's behavior.
Version 0.8.1, build 15. Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 15+.
GPL-3.0-or-later; LICENSE.upstream preserves the original MIT notice.
Corresponding source

MenuBarIO 0.8.1 — Deutsch
Version 0.8.1, Build 15. Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 15+.
GPL-3.0-or-later; LICENSE.upstream erhält den ursprünglichen MIT-Hinweis.

MenuBarIO 0.7.2
MenuBarIO 0.7.2
Maintenance update for macOS 27 and Xcode 27.
- Fixes compilation with the macOS 27 SDK: the deprecated USB socket macro
no longer imports into Swift, so the app reads its identical registry key. - Preserves explicit USB socket assignment and the existing fallback when
macOS provides no socket information. No guessed port mappings are added.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. Version 0.7.2, build 13.
GPL-3.0-or-later; LICENSE.upstream preserves the original MIT notice.
App and DMG contain LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE and SOURCE.md.
Corresponding source: v0.7.2

MenuBarIO 0.7.2 — Deutsch
Portinformationen bleiben erhalten. Es werden keine Portzuordnungen geraten.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. Version 0.7.2, Build 13.
GPL-3.0-or-later; LICENSE.upstream erhält den ursprünglichen MIT-Hinweis.
App und DMG enthalten LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE und SOURCE.md.

MenuBarIO 0.7.1
USB devices connected directly to a Mac's Thunderbolt-capable USB-C socket
now occupy the matching host-port row when macOS provides an explicit socket
assignment. Previously, a USB stick could appear in Other USB Devices while
the occupied host port still said Free.
- Shows the USB device's name, actual USB protocol and negotiated rate at its
host port, with the correct connection path in details. - Removes the duplicate residual-list entry while counting the device once.
- Preserves native Thunderbolt priority and existing external dock assignments.
Missing or ambiguous socket information is not guessed from controller IDs.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. Version 0.7.1, build 12.
GPL-3.0-or-later; the original MIT notice remains in LICENSE.upstream.
App and DMG contain LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE and SOURCE.md.

Validation: 106 local tests, static analysis and Universal archive passed.
On the Mac mini, SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 appeared at Port 1 at 5 Gbps; its detail
path, single device count and the three Anker downstream assignments were
verified. The maintainer authorized publication with the physical Intel,
USB2 and replug follow-up still pending. Automated Intel checks do not replace
that acceptance. A fresh clean-Mac installation and macOS 13/14 hardware were
not newly tested.
MenuBarIO 0.7.1 — Deutsch
- Native Thunderbolt-Belegungen behalten Vorrang; vorhandene Dock-Zuordnungen
bleiben erhalten. Fehlende oder mehrdeutige Portangaben werden nicht aus
Controller-IDs geraten.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. Version 0.7.1, Build 12.
GPL-3.0-or-later; der ursprüngliche MIT-Hinweis bleibt in LICENSE.upstream.
App und DMG enthalten LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE und SOURCE.md.
Exakter zugehöriger Quellcode: v0.7.1

Readable device details and Bluetooth battery levels make the compact hardware
inspector more useful in everyday use.
- Click a device or port for full details and its reliably resolved connection
path. Command-C copies details, Command-R refreshes, Escape returns. - Bluetooth battery levels appear when macOS provides them or the standard BLE
Battery Service is available on an already connected, exactly identified
device. Verified with Logi M650 L; unavailable values are omitted. - Short USB labels keep generation names in details. Thunderbolt 5 distinguishes
80 Gbps bidirectional capacity from 120 Gbps Bandwidth Boost; negotiated link
rates are explicitly distinguished from file-transfer measurements. - Ethernet link changes update independently of USB discovery. USB detail
copies include negotiated speed, and stale notices include their timestamp. - Device rows, decorative icons and expansion state have clearer accessibility
semantics. All seven existing languages include the new text.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. No telemetry or internet client.
Battery reads use existing Bluetooth authorization, no scanning or pairing,
and a five-minute cadence with expiring in-memory samples.
Validation: 99 local tests, static analysis and Universal build passed.
Apple Silicon hardware testing was confirmed by the maintainer. Hardware
follow-up, 2026-09-05: the maintainer also confirmed successful physical Intel
and MacBook tests. This completes the Intel acceptance deferred at publication.
Automated Intel CI is separate from physical acceptance. A fresh clean-Mac
installation and additional Bluetooth models have not been newly validated.
License: GPL-3.0-or-later from this release onward. Earlier published MIT
releases remain unchanged; the original MIT notice is in LICENSE.upstream.
App and DMG include LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE and SOURCE.md.

Thunderbolt 5
unterscheidet 80 Gbit/s bidirektionale Kapazität und 120 Gbit/s Bandwidth Boost;
die Erklärung trennt Linkrate und gemessene Dateiübertragung. - Ethernet-Linkwechsel aktualisieren sich unabhängig von der USB-Erkennung.
USB-Detailkopien enthalten die Geschwindigkeit; veraltete Daten ihren Zeitstempel. - Verbesserte Bedienungshilfen für Gerätezeilen, Symbole und Gruppen sowie
neue Texte in allen sieben bestehenden Sprachen.
Universal (arm64, x86_64), macOS 13+. Keine Telemetrie oder Internetabfragen.
Akkudaten nutzen vorhandene Bluetooth-Freigaben, ohne Suche oder Kopplung;
Lizenz: Ab diesem Release GPL-3.0-or-later. Frühere MIT-Releases bleiben
unverändert; der originale MIT-Hinweis steht in LICENSE.upstream. App und DMG
enthalten LICENSE, LICENSE.upstream, NOTICE und SOURCE.md.
Exakter zugehöriger Quellcode: v0.7.0

MenuBarIO 0.6.0
MenuBarIO 0.6.0
This release makes hardware refreshes more resilient and adds a privacy-aware
Markdown export for sharing a readable snapshot of the visible hardware
topology.
USB, Thunderbolt, USB4 & Bluetooth Inspector for macOS
Changes
- Coordinates USB/Thunderbolt, Bluetooth, power and Ethernet refreshes through
one lifecycle-aware path used by the footer, wake and session activation - Coalesces adjacent refresh requests and shows a compact activity state while
preventing overlapping discovery runs - Distinguishes ready, refreshing, stale and unavailable source states; a
failed refresh keeps the last valid device snapshot visible - Reports a powered-off Bluetooth controller explicitly while preserving a
legitimate empty scan as zero devices - Exports a structured
.mdhardware report through the native macOS save
panel, following the same group and topology order as the app - Labels names, vendors, protocols, negotiated speeds, port maxima and unknown
hub assignments without exporting serial numbers, Bluetooth addresses,
location IDs, stable internal IDs, usernames or paths - Adds explicit context-menu copies for Bluetooth devices and Thunderbolt ports
while retaining the existing detailed USB-device copy - Unifies the project, app and test deployment target at macOS 13.0 and keeps
the Ventura/Sonoma compatibility implementation active
Compatibility and privacy
- Universal app for Apple Silicon (
arm64) and Intel (x86_64) Macs running
macOS 13 or newer - The Markdown exporter receives access only to the file selected in the native
save panel; access is not retained - Device and power information remains local; the app contains no telemetry,
analytics, update checks or network client code
Validation note
The complete local gate passed with 76 automated tests, static analysis,
privacy and localization audits, the macOS 13 deployment-target audit and the
Universal build. The integrated settings view and native Markdown save panel
were checked on macOS 26.
Approved release exception: the macOS 13/14 legacy-settings smoke test and the
new physical coordinated-refresh, sleep/wake and failure-state cases on Apple
Silicon and the supported Intel/T2 Mac were not repeated for this release.
Automated Intel CI and the x86_64 slice do not constitute those physical
checks.
MenuBarIO 0.6.0 – Deutsch
App - Beschriftet Namen, Anbieter, Protokolle, ausgehandelte Geschwindigkeiten,
