QuayPass
Experimental pilot. QuayPass is a brand-new feature in early testing. Expect rough edges, and please report anything abnormal (see What to report).
QuayPass lets you "pass" other Argosy players you're physically near. When two handhelds running Argosy come into Bluetooth range, they quietly check each other in — no pairing, no taps, nothing to open. You build up a list of the travelers you've crossed paths with, and you can send them a friend request.
When you pass someone, they see a check-in card with:
- your username
- your avatar — a doodle you draw, or your initials if you haven't set one
- a short greeting message you can set
- the game you last played
That's the whole payload. QuayPass does not share your location, your library, your saves, or anything you didn't put on your card.
- Bluetooth turned on, with Argosy granted the nearby-devices/Bluetooth permission.
- A linked Argosy account (the same social account used for friends and RomM).
- An occasional internet connection. Passing itself works offline once set up, but Argosy needs to be online now and then to keep your pass credentials current and to send the day's passes to the server.
The Check-In screen shows the current status (for example, waiting on Bluetooth, finishing setup, or listening for nearby travelers) when something is stopping it from running.
You earn tickets for passing. Tickets are a reward you collect now; there's nothing to spend them on yet — a way to use them is coming in a later update.
From a check-in card you can send that traveler a friend request. Incoming and outgoing requests show up on the Friends screen in the social pages, where you can Accept, Decline, or Cancel them. Accepting makes you friends like any other request.
QuayPass is opt-in. Enable it under Settings → Social → QuayPass; when it's off, Argosy does no Bluetooth passing at all.
This is a pilot and we're testing it in the open. If you're trying it, please report:
- Excessive battery drain in standby — QuayPass listens in the background, and we want to know if it's costing more power than it should.
- Missed passes — you were near another Argosy user but no check-in showed up.
- Any and all social bugs — friend requests, check-in cards, avatars, greetings, anything that looks wrong.
