RomM Integration
RomM is the backbone of Argosy - it provides your game library, metadata, artwork, and cloud saves.
- Game library and metadata
- Box art and screenshots
- Platform organization
- Save file synchronization
- Collections synced from RomM
Argosy targets the latest three RomM releases. Older servers may still work, but expect compatibility issues the further back you are — features gate themselves on the server version, so an older RomM quietly gives you less rather than failing outright.
Configure your RomM server in Settings > RomM > Rom Manager, or during the first-launch wizard. You'll need your server URL (e.g. http://192.168.1.100:8080). On RomM 5.0+ Argosy uses device-managed registration (approve the device by scanning a QR code); older servers use an 8-character pairing code from the RomM web UI.
The connection rides out outages on its own. A failed attempt no longer drops you to disconnected; Argosy keeps retrying on a backoff for a few minutes and reconnects the moment the network returns (for example after wifi re-associates on wake). No re-login is needed after a server restart or a spotty connection.
Argosy can hold more than one RomM account on the same device, each with its own library view, saves, and achievements while sharing one connection to the server. See Accounts.
Argosy syncs your library metadata from RomM. Games appear in your Library but aren't downloaded until you choose to play them. The library itself (games, box art, platform structure) is shared across every account on the device; only things like favorites, hidden games, and ratings differ per account.
Resync manually from Settings > RomM > Sync Library if your RomM library changes.
Regional releases: when your RomM library has the same game in multiple regions (RomM sibling roms), sync consolidates them into one library entry. By default every region is accepted and none is preferred; an ordered region list (Settings > RomM > Sync Settings) picks which copy represents the game once you set one. Every region stays available as a version you can pick from the game's variant picker. Games you've already downloaded are never swapped out from under you. See Variants. The region list and its exclude filters are per RomM account; which platforms sync at all (Platform Filters) is shared by every account on the device.
Platform handling: local and RomM Android games merge into a single Android platform, and FBNeo and MAME arcade folders appear as separate platforms with their own cores and BIOS handling.
- 3D box art: if your RomM scans include ScreenScraper box media (enable box2d_back and box2d_side in scan settings, then re-scan), game details and the dual-screen showcase render a rotating 3D box. A Cache 3D Box Art toggle lives in Settings > RomM > Sync Settings.
- Screenshot uploads: screenshots taken during play upload to your RomM gallery automatically on RomM 5.0+. Disable in Settings > RomM > Sync Settings if unwanted.
- Custom cover art: from a game's details you can search SteamGridDB for alternative cover art and set a per-game override, replacing whatever art RomM provided.
On RomM 5.0+ servers, Argosy can browse the music your server hosts for each game. Open Settings > Audio > Music > Browse Server Music to browse tracks by game, stream previews, and download tracks into the background music playlist. The same browser backs the RomM Music option when assigning UI sounds, filtered there to short clips. On older servers these entries are hidden.
Downloaded tracks land in the device's public Music folder under Music/RomM/<Platform>/<Game>/, where other music apps can see them. See Storage and Paths.
Games download on-demand when you launch them, or batch-download from Collections. Monitor progress in the Downloads section.
Once games are downloaded, they work without a RomM connection. Local changes (saves, ratings, favorites) queue and sync when reconnected.
