Custom cards and your account

Rules

Anyone can write their own question cards under My custom cards. They're private to you — only games you host can draw them, no one else ever sees them. Export your deck to a file and share it; whoever imports it gets their own independent copy. You can delete your account and everything tied to it at any time, unless you're a player in a game that hasn't finished yet.

In depth

Adding cards

My custom cards (linked from the home page) is a simple add/edit/ delete list — question text, and an optional set of tags using the same tag system as the built-in bank (so your own cards can be excluded by category too, and their tags show up in the host's exclude-list right alongside everything else). There's no length-based or category-based review process; a card you write is live the moment you save it.

Why private, not shared

It'd be simpler to just drop everyone's custom cards into one shared pool. That was deliberately not the design: a self-hosted instance with password registration open to the public has no way to moderate whatever text someone might submit, and a shared pool means every existing player's game is affected by every new card anyone writes, forever. Keeping custom cards private to their creator — only ever eligible in games that person hosts — sidesteps both problems entirely. It costs a little inconvenience (see the next section for how to work around that), but the tradeoff is deliberate.

Sharing a deck without a designated host

Because cards are private, a card only ever shows up in a game hosted by whoever wrote it — normally that means one specific person in your group always has to be the host if you want to use a homemade deck. Export/ import removes that requirement:

  1. Whoever wrote the cards clicks Export my cards on the My Custom Cards page — downloads a plain JSON file (just the question text and tags, nothing tied to their account).
  2. They hand that file to anyone else in the group (however you'd normally share a file).
  3. Each person who wants access clicks Import from file and picks it — the cards land in their own My Custom Cards list, fully independent from the original. Now any of them can host and those cards are eligible.

Re-importing the same file (by the same person, or by someone re- sharing a file that's made its way back around) skips anything that's an exact text match for a card that person already has — it won't pile up duplicates no matter how many times a file circulates.

Imported cards are a copy, not a link: editing or deleting the original creator's card afterward has no effect on anyone else's imported copy, and vice versa.

Deleting your account

Delete my account, on the home page, is a two-step confirm — click it, then confirm — and it's immediate and permanent: your account, login credentials/OIDC link, and every custom card you've written are gone, no recovery.

It's blocked while you're a player in any game that hasn't finished — the host counts as a player too, so this covers hosting an active game as well as just playing in one. Once a game you were part of has finished, deleting your account afterward doesn't touch it: your display name and any cards you won stay exactly as they were for the other players who were in that game with you, they're just no longer linked back to an account that exists anymore.
