v3.20.0
Alert! Alert! v3.20.0
Added
- Independent audio + visual fades. Audio fade and visual (fade-to/from-black) fade now each have their own in and out length — four controls, each Off or 0.25 / 0.5 / 1.0s. Mix and match freely (e.g. quick audio fade-in, slow visual fade-out).
- Preview matches export. The audio fade is now applied audibly while you preview, and the timeline draws both fades — a black gradient at the edges for the visual fade and an accent ramp for the audio fade — so what you hear and see is what renders.
- Rename before export. Optional "Output name" field on Export current; leave blank for the auto name. Won't overwrite an existing file.
- Set Save Folder… in the App menu — choose where exported clips are written (persisted).
- Animated "Get started." The onboarding button now animates while the dependency check runs instead of freezing.
Fixed
- App icon. The Windows file/taskbar icon was the generic "broken" icon because the bundled
.icoonly had a 256px image; it's now a proper multi-size icon (16–256). - Capture title. In WaveLink / capture tools the app now shows as "Alert! Alert!" instead of "Alert! Alert! - Acceptable Use".
- Silent first preview after installing tools: the preview audio output is rebound to the default device on clip load (a Qt audio-init race). Export was always fine.
- Onboarding tour no longer tells you to "add a URL" on step 1 — a clip is already loaded by then, so it acknowledges it instead.
Windows build (native PySide6, no QtWebEngine). Download alert-alert.exe below.
v3.19.0
Alert! Alert! v3.19.0
Fixed
- Onboarding "Add URL" looked frozen. On the onboarding / empty-queue screen, clicking Add URL started the download but showed no feedback — the busy state (button → "Adding…", status → "Downloading…") was being applied to the editor controls hidden behind the onboarding overlay. The visible screen now shows the button flip to "Adding…", a live "Downloading…" status with yt-dlp progress, and any error inline.
Changed
- Relicensed to Apache License 2.0 (from AGPL-3.0). AGPL's network-use clause didn't meaningfully apply to a desktop-only app; Apache 2.0 better fits a thin frontend that orchestrates third-party tools, with an explicit warranty disclaimer, limitation of liability, and patent grant. See
LICENSE. - THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES rewritten to make clear Alert! Alert! contains no video-downloading code — URL loading is delegated to the independent yt-dlp project, fetched from upstream on demand and never bundled or modified.
Added
- First-launch acceptable-use acknowledgment. A one-time disclaimer must be accepted before the main window opens, clarifying that you are solely responsible for the copyright/legality of any content you process. Stored under its own version-gated QSettings key.
Windows build (native PySide6, no QtWebEngine). Download alert-alert.exe below.
v3.18.0
Fixed
- Get started always shows the dependency check now (it was skipping straight to 'Add a clip' once you'd been through setup once).
- Queue is clearly collapsible — a '‹' chevron in the QUEUE header collapses it; the ☰ up top reopens it.
- Get started button slimmed to a clean pill (less blocky).
v3.17.0
Fixed (onboarding)
- The welcome/intro is now the first screen on every launch — it was wrongly gated by a flag that was already set from earlier use, so it never appeared. That's fixed.
- First-time setup is a real step: after Get started it shows your dependency status — including ✓ when FFmpeg/yt-dlp are already installed — with Continue and Re-download. Shows once (or whenever a tool is missing).
- Clearing the queue mid-session returns to the clean add screen, not the welcome.
v3.16.0
Onboarding & timeline
- Onboarding is now a proper sequence: an intro screen (what this does → Get started), then a paste a URL screen, then the guided tour kicks in on your first clip — no more jumping straight in or auto-loading a sample.
- Dependency setup is a full-screen branded step (before onboarding) when FFmpeg/yt-dlp are missing.
- Scrubber redesigned — brighter waveform, played-progress fill up to the playhead, a playhead grabber, and clearer trim handles.
v3.15.0
Fixed & improved
- Onboarding shows once — adding a new clip no longer restarts the tour. The empty screen is now a clean centered paste-a-URL / Add file (no video, no sample button).
- Try sample removed from the editor (it's part of onboarding only).
- Start tour button restyled (rounded, soft glow — less blocky); 'Skip' is plain.
- Anything that needs a clip (player, scrubber, volume, crop/export, overrides) is greyed until you load one.
- Options scroll when the window is too short.
- New Audio fade length control (0.25 / 0.5 / 1s).
- Scrubber playback stays within your trim in/out bounds.
- Normalize is now a clean On/Off toggle; fixed the clipped 'Original' button.
v3.14.0
New & fixed
- Try sample / Start tour are instant — a sample clip ships with the app (no slow download).
- Clips now start paused on the first frame (no loud autoplay).
- Volume slider in the transport.
- Export options are now segmented buttons (Audio fade None/Start/End/Both, resolution, quality, end-buffer) instead of dropdowns.
- Trim moved to the timeline — drag the handles right on the scrubber; the cluttered Trim panel is gone.
- Onboarding tour polish — lighter dimming so you can see, an animated highlight that focuses on each step, and the step card no longer hides behind the queue.
- Nicer Start tour button.
v3.13.1
v3.13.0
New
- Beautiful led welcome screen — the branded landing from the old web app is back: glowing app icon, amber gradient, the Alert! Alert! wordmark, and a Start tour → that loads a sample clip and walks you through making your first alert (or Skip to add your own).
- Fixes Try sample appearing to do nothing — the sample now loads with a visible status.
v3.12.0
New
- Overrides now show in the preview. Pick a still image and the preview shows it; swap the audio and the preview plays that track (the clip's own audio mutes). Updates live as you change overrides or switch clips.
