Classes {#classes}

The 5 classes featured in the Big World plugin are: Crafter, Miner, Builder, Farmer and Guard. Each class has 5 levels, gaining new abilities, crafts and/or effects at each level. Roughly speaking, levels are gained by doing actions related to said class: crafting tools and armor, mining rocks and ores, placing blocks, farming crops or killing mobs.

Class Experience (CXP) {#class-experience-(cxp)}

Any player can choose to become any class, simply by performing activities that give class experience (CXP), in order to gain levels in a chosen class. Your CXP progress can be checked using the command /classes. Each class has different thresholds at which they level up, as seen in the table below. Keep in mind that the values in the table are the amount of CXP needed from the previous level (eg. getting from level 2 to level 3 in builder requires 3250 XP).

Class Level XpRequirementModifier Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Total
Level Multiplier 1 4 13 28 49 95
Crafter 1.55 388 1550 5038 10850 18988 36813
Miner 1.6 400 1600 5200 11200 19600 38000
Builder 1.25 313 1250 4063 8750 15313 29688
Farmer 2 500 2000 6500 14000 24500 47500
Guard 1 250 1000 3250 7000 12250 23750

Multiclassing {#multiclassing}

Gaining CXP in one class has a 50% chance of reducing CXP in every other class, making it harder to “multiclass” (have levels in multiple classes simultaneously). For instance, gaining 20 farmer CXP has a 50% chance to take away 20 crafter CXP and a separate 50% chance to take away 20 guard CXP.

When you go down a level in a class due to CXP loss, an additional 20% penalty is applied. For instance, if you leveled down from level 1 to level 0 miner, you will also lose 20% of the 350 mining CXP, leaving you at around 280 CXP.

Since players are able to collect CXP above level 5, it is possible for a player to stockpile CXP. Given a large enough stockpile, a player could reach level 5 in all of the classes, though for every CXP gained in a class, each other class would have a 50% chance of losing 1 CXP, meaning that the player would lose 2 CXP for 1 CXP gained.

Crafter {#crafter}

The crafter’s main purpose is making tools and armor for the civilisation. For this they need a lot of cobblestone and different ingots gathered by the miner, as well as food, wool and leather gathered by the farmer. Later on, a builder is needed to craft toolstations: including smithing tables, blast furnaces, anvils and the enchantment table.

In the early game, leveling up a crafter should be a priority, since once a crafter is able to make stone tools, gathering wood and cobblestone becomes significantly easier. While food is scarce, civilisations need to ensure that the crafter has enough food to survive and craft. Since the crafter does not need to gather materials themselves, they can stay inside the base to prevent accidental death. Knowledge of smithing and enchanting changes can be useful for a crafter.

Abilities and Recipes Unlocked at Each Crafter Level
Level Unlocked Recipe/Ability
1 Chance to lose hunger when crafting1 = 52% Tools: Crafting Stone Tool Heads and Stone Tools Misc: Crafting Thick Fabric, Fishing Rod, Bowl, Arrow and Spectral Arrow
2 Chance to lose hunger when crafting1 = 44% Tools: Crafting Copper Tool Heads Armor: Crafting Copper armor parts, Leather Armor Misc: Crafting Shears, Flint and Steel, Bow, Shield, TNT, Saddle and Advanced Tool Handle Using Smithing Table, Anvil
3 Chance to lose hunger when crafting1 = 36% Maximum enchantment combining level in an anvil2 = I Tools: Crafting Iron Tool Heads Armor: Crafting Chainmail Armor, Copper Armor; Iron and Gold armor parts Misc: Crafting Bucket, Compass, Clock and Food Transport Box
4 Chance to lose hunger when crafting1 = 28% Maximum enchantment combining level in an anvil2 = II Tools: Crafting Gold Tool Heads Armor: Crafting Iron Armor, Gold Armor; Diamond armor parts Misc: Crafting Crossbow, Firework Rocket, Blaze Rod and Heart of The Sea
5 Chance to lose hunger when crafting1 = 20% Maximum enchantment combining level in an anvil2 = III (absolute maximum) Tools: Crafting Diamond Tool Heads, Netherite Tool Heads Armor: Crafting Aufe armor, Diamond armor, Netherite armor parts, Netherite armor and Quartz armor Misc: Crafting Yellow Harness

1: The chance to lose 1 hunger when crafting is (60 - 8⋅ Crafter Level)%
2: Enchantments are only available up to level III. Using an anvil to combine two lower level enchantments into a chosen level Y, requires the crafter to be level (2+Y)

Sources of Crafter Class Experience
Action CXP gain1 Minimum Level Required
Tools: Crafting Wooden Tool Heads, Wooden Tools, Simple Tool Handle $5-LVL$ Level 0
Tools: Crafting Stone Tool Heads and Stone Tools Misc: Crafting Thick Fabric, Fishing Rod, Bowl, Arrow and Spectral Arrow $10-2\cdot (LVL-1)$ Level 1

1CXP gained from crafting decreases at higher levels, by a factor of 0.2 times the level difference between the current level and the level at which the craft was unlocked. For instance, a level 4 crafter crafting a level 2 craft will get 15*(1-0.2*2)=9 CXP per craft.

Miner {#miner}

The miner’s main purpose is mining cobblestone and ores that can be used as building blocks and as materials to create tools and armor. As such, miners are important to crafters and builders, who require the materials that miners can gather. In turn, the miner require good tools and a reliable source of food, since they spend most of their day outside of the base. Additionally, miners benefit greatly when accompanied by guardsman, who can deal with mobs and when their mines are fortified by builders.

It is hard to level up miner in the early game, since it takes long to heal damage with early game food sources, so dying is common. Thankfully, leveled miners are not necessary until a civilisation is ready to gather ores, at which point survival should be a little easier. Miners get a buff to mining speed when breaking “rock type” blocks. Knowledge of the world generation can be useful for a miner to know where to look for the ores their civ demands.

Abilities and Recipes Unlocked at Each Miner Level
Level Unlocked Recipe/Ability
1 Mining Coal Ore1 Block_break_speed multiplier2 = 0.90 for stone-type blocks (Ores, Stone, Cobblestone, Deepslate, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff)
2 Mining Copper Ore and Iron Ore1 Block_break_speed multiplier2 = 0.95 for stone-type blocks (Ores, Stone, Cobblestone, Deepslate, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff)
3 Mining Gold Ore, Redstone Ore, Lapis Lazuli Ore, Emerald Ore and Diamond Ore1 Block_break_speed multiplier2 = 1.00 for stone-type blocks (Ores, Stone, Cobblestone, Deepslate, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff)
4 Block_break_speed multiplier2 = 1.05 for stone-type blocks (Ores, Stone, Cobblestone, Deepslate, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff)
5 Mining Ancient Debris and Obsidian Block_break_speed multiplier2 = 1.10 for stone-type blocks (Ores, Stone, Cobblestone, Deepslate, Granite, Diorite, Andesite, Tuff)

1Both Deepslate and regular Ore blocks can be mined at the same level for each ore. Tools of sufficient level are also a requirement for items to drop when mined. While most are the same as vanilla, Iron Ore and Gold Ore requires a Copper Pickaxe or better.
2Block_break_speed multiplier is 0.6 by default. Builders level 3 get +0.2 added to the multiplier, which can stack with the miner multiplier

Builder {#builder}

The builder’s main purpose is fortifying the base and the mines. To do this, they require cobblestone gathered by the miner. CXP is gained mostly through placing blocks and crafting.

Having a builder is important in the early game in order to secure an area to base in. While skybases can be used to avoid mobs, most classes need to leave the base to perform their duties. The builder is also needed to craft beds and fences, to allow for respawning and animal pens. Later, the builder can craft workstations, used mostly by crafters. Knowledge of building changes can be useful.

Farmer {#farmer}

The farmer’s main purpose is feeding the civilisation. Their main reliance is on the builder for securing an area and a crafter for crafting hoes, shovels and buckets, needed to build a farm. Additionally, farmers are responsible for gathering leather, which requires breeding cows.

In the early game, farmers are needed to gather food for the civ. Farmers need to balance the production of various food items to ensure: everyone is fed, people can regenerate health (which requires saturation) and food is stored for travel and Events. Knowledge of farming changes can be useful.

Guard {#guard}

The guard’s main purpose is protecting other players from mobs. Guards rely on crafters to provide them with weapons and armor, and can be helpful to any class that needs to leave the base, typically miners. Knowledge of combat changes can be useful.
