Claude Code Skills and Commands

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that teaches Claude a task. A slash command is a short action that you type, such as /compact or /model. For example, .claude/skills/deploy/SKILL.md gives you a /deploy command.

⚠️ The docs and the bundle differ. The row says how.
🧪 It works only behind a flag, a plan, or a server-side switch. The row says which.
❌ It is removed or does nothing in 2.1.303.

Built-In Command Facts

  • The inventory data/inv-2.1.303.json holds 101 names (slash_commands). It includes the dynamic mcp__ prefix and the internal __remote-workflow.
  • It misses commands whose object puts name before type: keybindings, release-notes, rewind, chrome, statusline, sandbox. The Setup and Session pages list them.
  • A command has up to two objects: a local-jsx panel and a local variant for non-interactive sessions. The gate for the second is "not interactive" (launchOptions.isInteractive() is false).
  • Command kinds: local-jsx, local, prompt. Aliases come from the aliases array.
