09 Views and Inspector
The view switcher on the right of the top bar switches between the four views (collapsed into the "More" menu on narrow screens):
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Gantt | The schedule on a timeline |
| Task list | The outline table, for reading numbers |
| Calendar | Working days and exceptions |
| Resources | Resource tree + assignment timeline |
Collapse/expand state is shared between the two views—collapse a parent task in the Gantt and it's still collapsed when you switch to the task list.
- Task bars: length = duration; summary tasks drawn as a bottom band; milestones are diamonds; the critical path is highlighted; manual task bars have a lock indicator
- Dependency lines: the four types have different endpoint semantics
- Non-working-day shading: colored per the current calendar
- Today line: a vertical line marking the current date
- Resource names on bars: the names of assigned resources are laid out right inside the bar (with an ellipsis at the end when there's no room; hover to see the full list)
- Drag to schedule: drag the bar = pan, drag the left handle = change the start, drag the right handle = change the duration; the drop point snaps to workdays; dragged tasks become manually scheduled
- Create dependencies: drag the link handle at the bar's edge
On the left are the horizontally pinned outline columns, which stay put during horizontal scrolling.
Day / Week / Month are three presets (click the zoom group in the top bar or the menu bar "View → Zoom"). You can also zoom continuously:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Drag left/right on the time scale | Drag left to widen / drag right to narrow, stepless |
Ctrl/Cmd + wheel |
Continuous zoom anchored at the mouse position |
Ctrl/Cmd + + / - |
×1.25 / ÷1.25 each time |
Ctrl/Cmd + 0 |
Back to the "Day" preset |
When continuous zoom stops at a non-preset value, no preset button is highlighted—indicating the current density is custom. The zoom limits are 2px to 256px per day.
See Tasks and Outline—27 columns, column configuration, inline editing, multi-selection.
See Calendars.
The resource tree on the left (collapsed by group), and on the right that resource's timeline: which tasks are scheduled on each day, with overloaded days highlighted.
The inspector has three tabs:
| Tab | Contents |
|---|---|
| Task | Task info / Scheduling / Baseline / Relationships (predecessors and successors) / Assigned resources / Expected effort / … |
| Project | Project name, start date, scheduling direction, calendar… |
| Resource | Resource attributes (availability, efficiency, available period, cost) and the tasks it takes on |
The inspector always shows the "anchor" task—during a multi-selection it still shows the one you clicked last, plus a "N selected" line. Click that line to go back to a single selection.
Single entry point principle: there should be only one entry point for the same rule. So calendar editing lives in the calendar view and resource creation in the resource panel—the inspector only does full editing of "the currently selected object".
When the screen is narrower than the breakpoint: the inspector becomes a drawer (popping out only when you click a task), zoom and language collapse into the "More" menu in the top bar, and the outline automatically hides lower-priority columns (note / ID / priority).
