Release list
FieldScreen TV preview 9 — record your games
FieldScreen TV now records games locally and plays them back from a saved-game library.
- Pause live video and return to the live edge.
- Choose and verify a recording folder on your computer.
- Record a live channel or schedule an upcoming NFL/MLB game; XMLTV matches the broadcast at the saved start time.
- Browse saved, active, scheduled, partial, and failed recordings; play, seek, stop, cancel, and explicitly delete them.
- Keep pending recordings running in the background when the window closes.
- Includes a static recording engine: no separate runtime installation is needed.
Keep the computer powered on, online, and FieldScreen running. Live pause has a limited buffer. Scheduled times are fixed; reschedule if the league changes the game time. Each recording needs an additional provider connection, with up to two recordings at once. Scheduled recordings cannot wake a powered-off computer.
Validation: 47 automated tests passed, including real FFmpeg HLS/MPEG-TS recording, extensionless HLS, seekable playback, scheduler start/stop, interrupted files, storage errors, and provider matching. Browser playback/layout checks and the packaged Linux app smoke check passed. Physical Steam Deck testing and a full-length broadcast recording remain pending.
Download the AppImage or portable Linux x64 archive. SHA256SUMS covers all downloads. FieldScreen-Recorder-Sources-8.1.2.tar.gz contains the recording engine's complete corresponding sources, build script, and licenses; it is not required to run the app.
FieldScreen TV — Baseball joins the screen
Baseball joins FieldScreen TV alongside football. Use the NFL / MLB selector to switch dashboards, or mix games and scorecards from both sports in Multiview.
- Live MLB diamonds with innings, runners, batter, pitcher, counts, and outs.
- Daily schedules, game details, inning scoring, batting statistics, all 30 teams, AL/NL standings, wild-card races, and postseason series.
- The existing saved IPTV connection now automatically matches baseball games through XMLTV. Confirmed alternate feeds use the same bounded responsiveness check.
- Games still live after midnight remain on Today. Rain delays, doubleheaders, and unconfirmed postseason matchups are handled explicitly.
- Existing NFL, RedZone, controller, multiview, and fullscreen controls remain available.
Validation: 39 automated checks, production builds, packaged-app launch, and actual Reds–Dodgers playback through a confirmed provider guide match. Fullscreen and returning to the layout were tested with live video.
Linux x86-64 preview. Hardware-specific Steam Deck, controller, and TV-device validation is still pending. Download the AppImage or extract the portable archive; verify against SHA256SUMS. Streams come from the provider you connect. Fire TV and other TV platforms are not included in this release.
FieldScreen TV — Game fullscreen fix
The expand icon on a game pane now fills the display with that pane instead of switching to the 1 + 3 layout.
- Back to screens, Escape, or controller B restores the previous layout and audio focus.
- Channel order and player instances stay intact when entering and leaving fullscreen.
- The native app enters display fullscreen and restores its previous windowed/fullscreen state on return.
- The website demo uses the same corrected pane controls.
Validated with the existing 33 automated checks, a production build, package verification, and live-video fullscreen/return testing. Controller B follows the same exit action; physical Steam Deck controller testing was not performed.
Download the updated AppImage, or rerun the installer from the website. Saved providers remain available after updating.
FieldScreen TV — One-click game day
FieldScreen now verifies encrypted saving and reading on each device before enabling Remember this provider. Standalone Linux desktops automatically select an available Secret Service or KWallet backend, while KDE and explicit password-store choices are preserved.
- The M3U playlist link and EPG / TV guide link sit together in one connection form. Remember saves both.
- A RedZone button beside the screen layouts opens an available RedZone feed in the main pane.
- Multiple confirmed feeds receive a brief media check with a 2.5-second total budget. Recent results are cached, and similar response times preserve broadcast priority.
- Connecting returns to the dashboard. Clicking a live game or Watch game automatically starts a confirmed guide match; channel selection is reserved for uncertain coverage.
- Saved providers reconnect when the app opens. An existing session can be saved without re-entering the links.
- Storage status explains unavailable or locked keyrings and failed writes, with a Check again button. Plaintext fallback remains disabled.
- Includes automatic NFL game discovery, full-lineup channel search, detailed guide status, and channel/guide refresh controls from the previous preview.
Validated with 33 automated tests, a production build, packaged-file verification, and an actual encrypted save and application restart on Hyprland. Steam Deck wallet selection is covered by automated checks; this release has not been physically tested on Steam Deck hardware.
Download the AppImage below, or use the terminal installer on the website. Existing users can rerun the installer to update.
FieldScreen TV — Automatic game discovery
FieldScreen TV now opens IPTV on Your games, with automatic NFL matchup discovery across the connected channel lineup. Watch game selects a current guide listing that names both teams; uncertain team or scheduled-network matches remain labeled as possible coverage.
- Search the entire channel lineup and guide with Ctrl+F. Up to 500 channels fit in one scrollable list, with no page hopping.
- Load XMLTV through short provider URLs, raw gzip responses, or XML.gz files. Compression is detected from the response bytes.
- Update just the guide link while keeping channels connected. Guide failures explain the problem and retain available listings; retries respect provider rate limits.
Validation: 27 automated tests, production build, Linux package checks, packaged renderer smoke test, and live M3U/XMLTV discovery and playback. Physical Steam Deck/controller validation remains pending.
Enter private provider links only in the installed app. Download the AppImage or portable archive below, or use the terminal installer on https://fieldscreentv.org.
FieldScreen TV — Terminal install and window controls
Install FieldScreen TV from a terminal without building the app:
git clone https://github.com/AndrewDuval6/fieldscreen-tv.git &&
cd fieldscreen-tv &&
./install.shThe installer downloads this Linux x64 AppImage from GitHub, verifies its checksum, installs it at ~/Applications/FieldScreen-TV.AppImage, and adds an application-menu shortcut. No Node.js, administrator access, or source build is needed. Git and curl must be available. Close any older running copy before installing an update.
The desktop shortcut starts in a window. The AppImage itself still starts full screen for Steam Deck Gaming Mode. Use F11 or the new Window / Fullscreen button to switch. Holding F11 no longer repeatedly toggles the window. --windowed also works from a terminal.
Includes the previous release’s Refresh channels control, M3U/Xtream support, private provider storage, XMLTV guide, and NFL dashboard. Choose Connect IPTV inside the installed app to enter your provider details.
Validation: 23 automated checks, production build, packaged-content checks, and Linux AppImage launch check. Installer checks cover successful installation and rejection of damaged downloads while preserving the existing app. Physical Steam Deck/TV validation remains pending.
FieldScreen TV — Channel refresh preview
Refresh your IPTV channel lineup without entering the provider details again. In TV guide · IPTV, choose Refresh channels beside Refresh guide.
- Reloads channels, names, and groups from your M3U URL or Xtream account, including session-only connections.
- Keeps unchanged stream URLs playing and retains your current channel search and any group still present.
- Shows the last successful channel update, then refreshes the XMLTV guide for the updated lineup.
- Keeps the previous lineup if the provider is unavailable or the refresh fails.
- For imported M3U files, asks for a replacement file and updates its encrypted saved copy when remembered.
Removed channels or changed stream URLs return their assigned panes to the dashboard. No automatic app updater is included: replace your previous AppImage with this download at the same path used by your Steam shortcut.
Use FieldScreen-TV-0.1.0-preview.3-Linux-x86_64.AppImage, or the portable .tar.gz alternative. Provider details are entered privately inside the installed app; no IPTV credentials or NFL broadcasts are included in the download.
Validation: 21 automated tests, production build, package-content checks, and Linux AppImage launch check. New checks cover M3U/Xtream refresh, uninterrupted media responses, failed refreshes, file replacement, saved settings, cancellation, and stale guide responses. Physical Steam Deck/TV validation remains pending.
FieldScreen TV — Live NFL preview
FieldScreen TV now connects the NFL dashboard to ESPN and nflverse, with matchup discovery in your own IPTV guide.
What is included
- Real NFL scores and kickoff times, the full weekly schedule, all 32 teams, and all eight division standings.
- Game Day automatic focus, manual pinning, and a paged wall of detailed fields. Pregame scores remain blank; possession markers use reported positions.
- Game details with quarter scores, team stats, recent/scoring plays, and player leaders when published.
- Team Lab with season/category selection and advanced nflverse metrics, including EPA, CPOE, air yards, sacks, and QB hits.
- Find broadcast: compare a selected matchup and kickoff window with XMLTV listings, see match confidence, and choose its channel for any pane.
- Full-screen, split, four-pane, and one-plus-three layouts mixing IPTV video and NFL information. Right-stick scrolling for long data panels.
- Scores refresh every 30 seconds while visible. A failed refresh keeps the last successful update with a cached label and timestamp.
Download
Use FieldScreen-TV-0.1.0-preview.2-Linux-x86_64.AppImage, or extract the .tar.gz alternative. On Steam Deck, download in Desktop Mode, allow the executable to run, and add it to Steam as a non-Steam game. Use a standard Gamepad layout in Gaming Mode, without Proton. The same 16:9 interface is intended for a docked TV.
Connect your M3U/Xtream provider and XMLTV guide privately inside the app. The public download contains no IPTV account information or bundled NFL broadcasts.
Data and preview scope
ESPN endpoints are publicly reachable without an API key, but undocumented and unsupported for this project. Data may lag broadcasts and endpoint availability may change. nflverse data is used under CC BY 4.0, selected, normalized, and rounded for display. Advanced statistics are published after games; a current-season file may not exist yet.
Casting, Apple TV/Android TV apps, saved layouts, and physical Steam Deck/TV/controller verification remain future work. Actual provider playback depends on its allowed connections, formats, and codecs.
Validation: 16 automated checks, the production browser build, packaged-content checks, local real-feed requests, and a launch smoke test of the Linux AppImage. Includes checks for stale data, valid field positions, kickoff times, XMLTV matching, provider privacy, and player reuse.
FieldScreen TV 0.1 — IPTV + XMLTV Preview
FieldScreen TV is a 16:9 NFL control room for Linux desktops and a Steam Deck docked to a TV.
This first preview includes IPTV playback and XMLTV guide discovery:
- M3U URL/file import and Xtream provider login.
- Automatic XMLTV guide discovery, with a field for your own guide URL.
- Search teams, games, and channels; filter groups, Football, RedZone, and On now.
- Current/upcoming provider listings linked to playable channels.
- HLS and HTTP MPEG-TS playback, four-screen and 1+3 layouts, game + data combinations, and one active audio feed.
- Players remain alive when moved between panes; hidden feeds stop in smaller layouts.
- Optional provider storage using an available Linux system keyring. Browser preview credentials stay in memory only.
- FieldScreen’s new penguin/football logo, stadium/night themes, detailed sample fields, and Xbox-style controller navigation.
Download
Steam Deck / Linux: download the .AppImage, allow it to run as a program, and add it to Steam as a Non-Steam Game. It runs natively on Linux; do not force Proton. The portable .tar.gz is an alternative if AppImage mounting is unavailable.
Open Connect IPTV, add your M3U or Xtream details and XMLTV URL, choose a channel for each screen, then open Watch wall. Enter credentials in the app, never in GitHub issues.
Preview limits
NFL scores, standings, fields, and Director events are still sample data. XMLTV is provider schedule data, not a live score feed. Four streams normally require four allowed provider connections. Codec support, provider-specific authentication, and actual device performance vary. DRM streams, UDP/RTSP, direct Apple TV/Android TV apps, and wireless casting are not implemented. Your provider and physical Steam Deck/Xbox/TV setup have not yet been verified.
The automated checks cover provider imports, XMLTV matching, stream proxying, credential-storage policy, controller navigation, and player reuse. The Linux AppImage starts with the sandbox and local IPTV service enabled. SHA256SUMS is included for checking downloads.
See the README for setup, supported formats, and the current development/security scope.
