Install PhishLens

PhishLens is not on the Chrome Web Store yet, so it is loaded as an unpacked extension. It takes two minutes and works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers.

Steps

  1. Open the latest release, download PhishLens-extension-….zip and unzip it.
  2. In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top right).
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  5. Pin PhishLens: click the puzzle icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to PhishLens.
  6. Open or reload your Gmail or Outlook tab. A Scan with PhishLens button appears next to the subject of an open email.

No account and no setting are needed: PhishLens uses the hosted server, PhishLens Cloud, by default. See Settings to use your own server instead.

Update to a new version

  1. Download and unzip the new release.
  2. Replace the files of the old folder with the new ones, then click the reload arrow on the PhishLens card in chrome://extensions.
  3. Your open Gmail and Outlook tabs pick up the new version by themselves. If a button does not answer, reload the tab.

Your scan history and settings are kept when you reload the extension, but removing it deletes them: export your history first (see Settings) if you want to keep it.

Check the version

The version is shown at the bottom of the popup, for example v2.0.0.
