Rainmeter Skins

FrameDeck can show many Rainmeter skins (the popular Windows desktop widgets) on any of your screens, on Mac, Windows and Linux.

Add a skin

  1. Download a skin as a .rmskin file (or a .zip of a skin folder), from sites like DeviantArt or VisualSkins.
  2. In the editor, add a Rainmeter skin widget from the list on the left.
  3. In its settings, click Import a skin (.rmskin or .zip)… and choose the file.
  4. Pick the skin under Skin. A package with several skins lists them all.
  5. Set the widget's Background to None so the skin's own background shows, and choose Size: fit inside the widget, fill it, or actual size.

Each imported package can be used by any number of widgets. Remove this skin package… deletes it from FrameDeck.

What works

FrameDeck doesn't run Rainmeter; it reads the skin and draws it itself. Clocks, system monitors (CPU, memory, disks, network, uptime), text and weather skins usually look right. Skins built around plugins only partly work.

Works Doesn't
Text, images, bars, line graphs, round gauges, rotating images, shapes Plugins (audio visualisers, HWiNFO sensors…)
Time, CPU, memory, disks, network speed, uptime, calculations, web data, now playing (Mac) Lua scripts
Variables, styles, @Include, formulas, conditions and most option-changing actions Clicking, typing, dragging, tooltips
Skin backgrounds and bundled fonts Some advanced text and shape effects

In the editor, a skin that uses something unsupported shows a small note at the bottom listing what's missing.

On a Mac or Linux, skins that show drive C: show your main disk.

Safety

Skins are downloads from strangers, so FrameDeck only imports the skin's own files (settings, images, fonts) and never its plugins or programs. Formulas can't run code, and skins can only load data from public web addresses, the same rules as custom widgets. See Network Sharing and Security.

Skins belong to their authors. Most allow personal use, which is what importing your own download is.
