Tablets and Phones

Any tablet or old phone with a web browser can be a FrameDeck display. No app download is needed: it runs as a home-screen web app.

  1. Make a screen for it. Under Screens, click + Add and pick Tablet, or choose Custom size and enter its resolution.
  2. Turn on network sharing. In Settings, turn on Share displays on my network. The first time, macOS may ask whether FrameDeck can accept incoming network connections: click Allow.
  3. Open the link on the tablet. Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi. Open Guides → A tablet or old phone in the app, pick the screen and copy its link. It looks like http://192.168.1.20:47820/display.html?screen=….
  4. Make it fullscreen.
    • iPhone / iPad: tap Share → Add to Home Screen, then open it from the home screen.
    • Android: open the browser menu → Add to Home screen.
    • Other browsers: double-tap the page to go fullscreen.
  5. Keep it awake. Set the tablet's auto-lock to Never while it's charging. On iPad, Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility) keeps it on this page.

Tap the left or right edge to flip pages. Tap a headline in a news widget to read it.

Tips

  • Give the computer running FrameDeck a reserved IP address in your router so the link keeps working.
  • The computer running FrameDeck has to stay on for the display to update.
  • Tablets can view screens but can't edit them. See Network Sharing and Security.
