Raspberry Pi and Kiosks

Anything with a web browser can show a FrameDeck screen: an old laptop, a mini PC behind a TV, or a Raspberry Pi with a small HDMI or touch screen. (You can also install FrameDeck itself on a Pi: see Installing.)

  1. Turn on network sharing on the computer running FrameDeck (Settings → Share displays on my network).

  2. Pick the screen to show in Guides → Any computer or Raspberry Pi and copy its link.

  3. Open it fullscreen ("kiosk mode") on that computer.

Raspberry Pi OS, in a terminal:

    chromium-browser --kiosk --noerrdialogs --disable-infobars "http://<computer>:47820/display.html?screen=<id>"

    Windows, in Command Prompt:

    start msedge --kiosk "http://<computer>:47820/display.html?screen=<id>" --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen

Another Mac or a PC: open the link in a browser and double-click the page for fullscreen.

  4. Start it automatically (Raspberry Pi). Add the command above to the end of ~/.config/labwc/autostart (or ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart on older Raspberry Pi OS), so the screen comes back after a reboot.

E-ink panels

E-ink panels can't run a web browser. Sending pictures to an e-ink frame is on the roadmap. Until then, EpaperSystem is the best choice for a Raspberry Pi with a Waveshare e-ink screen. You can still design e-ink layouts in FrameDeck: e-ink screens use only the colors the panel can show and have no animation.
