Discussion of Project

The team has managed to write event-driven software using threads which enables a Raspberry Pi to recognise a bird landing at a feeder, take a picture of it, determine whether or not it is a bird, post a picture of the bird on Twitter, and log these visits for display on a web page which can be accessed by the user. The real-time requirements of the project were established before testing, and an extremely large amount of latency tests were performed. These demonstrated that the code met all of these requirements and that the user can be ensured that their product will always perform well. Unit tests were written for various code modules to make sure that bugs were not introduced to the code as it was being developed. On top of this, various in situ tests were performed to make sure that all of the software components worked well when integrated for the final product. The benefits of this project outlined in Home have been fully realised by the software written for this course, and due to it being open source, an excellent framework has been set up for future developers to get involved with its future progression.

A video demonstration of the code working can be found at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnj3r2rmuOU.
