Grid and Ambience
Protection never depends on the visual effects. The grid and ambience help players understand and identify active runes; a missing visual does not change enforcement.
Enable Persistent Illuminated Grid in the rune menu to show the square footprint.

The grid:
- Draws one-block cyan segments along the footprint.
- Appears on a horizontal plane just above rune height.
- Does not form a vertical wall.
- Does not follow hills, caves, or terrain.
- Is visible to nearby players in the world.
- Requires the world Grid setting to be enabled.
Compare a protected village without the grid:

And with the footprint visible:

Preview Grid for 30 Seconds shows the same boundary temporarily. It does not enable the persistent setting.
The request succeeds only when:
- The administrator's world Grid setting is on.
- The requesting player's Personal grid preview preference is on.
- The rune is enabled and available.
A player's preference controls only their ability to request a preview. It does not hide persistent grids or other players' visual effects.

The renderer creates nearby loaded grid tiles and has a world-wide visual-helper budget. It does not create ticking areas or force distant chunks to load. At large radii, walk nearer to an edge if a distant section is not visible.
The exact protection calculation uses the rune record rather than the visible helpers. Partially used grid tiles collapse their unused geometry, preventing stray straight lines beyond the selected radius.
The grid shows only horizontal footprint. The protected volume extends from exactly Y−20 through Y+20. The rune menu displays those limits numerically. Use another rune at a different height to protect a taller structure.
Each of the rune's four side faces carries a distinct soul-blue emissive glyph. Their visibility is part of the block model and does not depend on the floating-rune toggle.
This toggle controls the glyph particles erupting from the top well. They rise nearly vertically from the flame and curve outward near the top of their arc. Turn them off for a quieter appearance or to reduce local effects.
This toggle controls the animated soul-campfire-style flame in the well. It is independent from floating runes and sounds.
This toggle controls the quiet fire ambience. A rune may show the flame without sound, play sound with another visual combination, or disable all ambience.
Floating runes, flame synchronization, and sounds run only when:
- The add-on is enabled.
- The rune is enabled.
- Rune protection is enabled.
- Its dimension is enabled.
- The physical rune is loaded.
- A player is nearby, within the effect's local horizontal and vertical range.
No ambience setting creates a ticking area.
