Getting Started
- Download
Andys_Smart_Tool_Swapper_0.2.3.mcaddonfrom the official CurseForge project page. - Open the
.mcaddonwith Minecraft Bedrock and wait for both packs to import. - Create a world or edit the intended existing world.
- Activate Andy's Smart Tool Swapper [BP] under Behavior Packs.
- Confirm Andy's Smart Tool Swapper [RP] is active under Resource Packs.
The two packs depend on each other, so activating either one activates the other.
Android and iOS: download the .mcaddon, open or share it to Minecraft, allow both packs to import, then activate them on the intended world.
Consoles: consoles cannot import add-on files directly. Import and activate the add-on on a Windows or mobile device, upload that prepared world to a Realm, and join the Realm from the console.
No configuration is required before first use. Every option already sits on its recommended setting, and every gear-menu toggle at world creation is off by default — where "off" always means the normal, recommended behaviour.
If you want to set world defaults before entering, use the gear icon beside the pack in the world editor. Otherwise just play.
There is nothing to press. Swapping is automatic and follows what you do:
- Start breaking a block. The tool that suits it comes to hand.
- Keep going. The tool keeps up as the material changes — stone → gravel → dirt → log → stone — without releasing the button.
- Stop. Whatever you were holding returns within about half a second.
- Hold sneak to pause the swapper entirely. Release to resume. This is your manual override and it needs no menu.
To change anything, rename a Stick at an Anvil:
| Renamed to | Opens | Who |
|---|---|---|
SwapperControl |
Your personal settings, the Mark-a-tool page, and the "Why did it pick that tool?" report | Any player |
AdminSwapperControl |
The world settings and Teach Smart Tool Swapper | Operators only |
The name is matched exactly, including capital letters. swappercontrol and Swapper Control will not work — this is by far the most common way players get it wrong. Full details on the Features and Configuration page.
Inside a menu: a button acts immediately and redraws the page with the new value; Back returns to the previous page; the red Close button closes the menu; and Escape closes the whole menu from any depth.
On a Realm or dedicated server the add-on behaves identically, with one addition: every setting has a per-player version, so three players on one world can run it three different ways. The world owner decides whether players may change their own.
A Bedrock Dedicated Server configures everything from the console rather than a form — the gear icon lives on the client's world-settings screen, which a headless server never opens. Start with:
scriptevent andy_sts:status
scriptevent andy_sts:help
The full command surface is on the Admin and Operator Guide page.
On your first join you get a single chat message explaining the renamed Stick. That is the only automatic message the add-on sends, it appears once per player, and an operator can switch it off.
Nothing else happens on first load. There is no scan, no migration, and no world edit — the add-on stores its settings on the world and its tool marks on the items themselves, so it is safe to add to an existing world at any point.
Turn on Action-bar note on every swap in SwapperControl for your first hour. It prints the chosen tool and the reason it won just above your hotbar — Iron Pickaxe (has Fortune) — so you can see exactly what the engine is thinking. Most people switch it off once they trust it, which is why it is off by default.
