Controller Interface Gudie

CraCaN edited this page Nov 5, 2024 · 7 revisions

As this is under active development there may be times where this page isn't up to date with the latest release
If the latest release is a pre-release, this page will not be updated to reflect this
Currently updated to represent v2.5.0, is mostly accurate with v2.4.4 as well

Active Display

When any part of the instrument is used, the display will look something like this: Quantonium Head

Pressure Pads

In MIDI CC mode (Default) The top left box is the amount of pressure applied to the left pressure pad
The top right box is the amount of pressure applied to the right pressure pad
The numbers above the box are the MIDI control channels that are in use

If you have the pads sending pitch bend instead of MIDI CC then the words Pitch and Bend will be at the top left and right instead of the numbers

Displayed Note

At the centre of the display is the note that corresponds to your fingers position.
The note shown will become inverted if there is an active MIDI note being sent. (as shown on the image above)

The Position/Pressure Indicator

The bottom bar represents both the position and the pressure applied to the main ribbon
The small white notch shows the current position detected by the ribbon.
The top bar of this box shows the required pressure needed to send a MIDI note
The bottom bar of the box represents the current MIDI aftertouch currently being sent

Idle Interface

When the controller isn't doing anything the display will look like this:
Change Octave: +0 -■ Shows the current octave shift applied, pressing button 1 opens menu to change octave
Main Menu ---------■ opens the main menu. Gives access to controller behaviour such as, MIDI CCs, pad behaviour etc...
Change Key: C ----■ Shows the current key, pressing button 3 opens menu to change the key
If the controller is not used for long enough, it will blank the screen but the controller will remain ready to use

Change Octave

Shifts the scale up or down by octaves (Default:0, Min:-3, Max:+3)
Oct: | Exit ----■ Return to Idle screen
| Inc -----■ Increase octave by 1
+0 | Dec -----■ Decrease octave by 1

Change Key

Shift the key up or down by a semitone (Default: C)
Key: | Exit ----■ Return to previous menu
| Inc -----■ Increase key by a semitone
C | Dec -----■ Decrease key by a semitone\

Main Menu

The Main menu has a list selection use the top and bottom buttons to scroll to the option you wish to enter, then press the middle button to enter the selected middle option

The main menu once opened will look like this:
In Note PB ↑ Scroll up
Exit Menu ← Selects the current option
Poly Settings ↓ Scroll down

Poly Settings

Essentially a fake chord system to allow the controller to play chords with one note input
Exit --------------■ will return the controller to its idle state
Poly Count (1) ----■ allow you to set the number of extra notes sent
Poly Type ---------■ allow you to set the type of chord sent

Poly Count

Exit --------------■ will return to Poly settings
Current Inc --■ increase the number of notes sent (minimum: 1)
Mode: Dec --■ decrease the number of notes sent (Maximum: 4)

Poly Type

Exit --------------■ will return to Poly settings
Major Chords ------■ Select from a list of major chords
Minor Chords ------■ Select from a list of minor chords

Ribbon Scale

Ribbon mode select
Diatonic << -------■ Diatonic is essentially just the white keys on a keyboard if the key is in C (Default)
Chromatic ---------■ Chromatic is including the white and black keys of a keyboard, so more flexibility but harder to play, certain features do become unavailable if this option is enabled\

Pad Behaviour

Changes the behaviour of the left and right pressure pads at the end of the instrument
Pad Behaviour
Send CC << --------■ Send CC is the same as the modulation wheel on MIDI keyboards, the left pad is on CC 1 and the right is on CC 2 (Default)
Send Pitch Bend ---■ Send pitch bend acts as a sort of pitch bend wheel, the left pad pitches down and the right pad pitches up

Trautonium Mode

Trautonium mode will only send one note when playing, regardless of what position your finger is in. Instead, pitch bend will be sent to emulate a Trautonium. Essentially the controller becomes un-quantized after the first note is sent.
Trautonium Mode
Disabled << -------■ Disables Trautonium Mode (Default)
Enabled -----------■ Enables Trautonium Mode

Dynamic Velocity

This enables velocity data, so how hard you initially press down on a note section, same as a keyboard, any new note played after this will have the same velocity. This does mean that if you press down to lightly no note will be played.
If disabled max velocity is sent instead
MIDI Velocity
Disabled << -------■ Disables Dynamic velocity (Default)
Enabled -----------■ Enables Dynamic velocity

In Note Pitch Bend

In note pitch bend allows a bit of pitch bend within each note.
In Note PB
Disabled << -------■ Disables in note pitch bend (Default)
Enabled -----------■ Enables in note pitch bend

MIDI CCs

Exit ------------->■ Return to previous menu
Left Pad CC (1) -->■ Change the control channel of the left pressure pad
Right Pad CC (2) ->■ Change the control channel of the left pressure pad

Left Pad CC
Left CC | Exit --->■ Return to previous menu (Default:1)
| Inc ---->■ Increase MIDI CC by 1 (Max:127)
1 | Dec ---->■ Decrease MIDI CC by 1 (Min:1)

Right Pad CC
Right CC| Exit --->■ Return to previous menu (Default:2)
| Inc ---->■ Increase MIDI CC by 1 (Max:127)
2 | Dec ---->■ Decrease MIDI CC by 1 (Min:1)
