Aincrad Save Editor 0.1.19
Backup loading. A new Backups page lists every timestamped backup the editor has ever made — of the working copy, and of your live save (the backups/ folder next to the game's save file) — newest first with local date-times. Load puts a backup into the working copy so you can inspect it like any save; your current working copy is itself backed up first, so nothing is ever lost, and your live save is only written when you then choose Apply to game….
The page also shows on the "Open a save to begin" screen — so if your save ever refuses to load, your backups are right there to restore.
Zips include the voice-preview clips, thumbnails, and CJK font as usual.
Aincrad Save Editor 0.1.18
Voice previews. Picking a voice now plays one of the character creator's own sample lines for it, and a ▶ button under the voice chips replays the current voice — each press cycles through its six creator lines. An EN/JP toggle switches between the game's two audio languages (the default follows the editor's UI language).
The clips are the exact ones the in-game creator plays, bundled in aml-data/save-editor/voices/ (144 short oggs, ~1.6 MB). If your bundle is missing them or you have no audio device, the preview UI simply hides — everything else works as before.
Both zips (Linux + Windows) include the voice clips, thumbnails, and CJK font. As always: the editor edits a working copy and only touches your real save on confirm, with a timestamped backup.
Aincrad Save Editor 0.1.17
Two additions on the Identity page:
Death game (permadeath) toggle. A new Game mode section shows the character-creation permadeath flag for the selected character, so you can turn it off (rescue a death-game character) or on. It's the same per-character switch the game itself writes; a change applies the next time the game loads the save. Saved Looks never capture or apply it. As always, edits go to a working copy and Apply to game makes a timestamped backup first.
All 12 voices are now visible. The voice control is two rows of selectable chips (Male 1–6, Female 1–6) instead of the ◀/▶ stepper — the stepper crossed genders correctly but only ever displayed the current voice, so the other gender's six voices were effectively hidden. Voices remain not gender-locked: any voice works on any body.
0.1.15 — preset hardening + richer failure diagnostics
Current recommended build — includes today's 0.1.13/0.1.14 fixes.
0.1.15 — preset (Look) hardening, verified against the game's own data: applying a look now validates Voice against the 12 voices the game actually ships and Gender against the game's real enum (exactly Male/Female), and skips colour values with non-finite components — previously a hand-edited look file could write any of those into your save. A look also no longer applies the character name: it's an appearance, not an identity, so applying a shared look can't silently rename your character.
0.1.14 — richer "unrecognized trailer" diagnostic: the copy-pasteable report now includes the save's decrypted length at load and a journal of what was edited since load (old → new per field; preset applies and one-click repairs shown as operations). Character names are redacted to length + encoding.
0.1.13 — supports the clipped-trailer save shape reported from the wild (end-of-file GVAS magic cut to its first 1–3 bytes), which made 0.1.11 refuse to save with "This save has an unrecognized trailer". Also validates preset body sliders against the character creator's real -1..1 span and pins MeshScale to 1.0.
If an older version refused to save with the trailer diagnostic: nothing was ever written — your save is fine, and this build handles it.
0.1.14 — clipped-trailer save fix + richer failure diagnostics
Grab this instead of 0.1.13 (released earlier today) — same fixes plus better failure reporting.
0.1.14 — richer "unrecognized trailer" diagnostic: the copy-pasteable report now also includes the save's decrypted length at load time and a journal of what was edited since load (each changed field with old → new value; preset applies and one-click repairs shown as operations). Character names are redacted to length + encoding. Diagnostic-only; nothing about saving changed.
0.1.13 — supports another save-trailer shape reported from the wild (the GVAS end-of-file magic clipped to its first 1–3 bytes at the aligned end of file — two independent reports, a lone G and a GV), which made saving refuse with "This save has an unrecognized trailer" on affected saves. Also extends preset validation to body sliders: applying a Look now skips body morph weights outside the character creator's -1..1 span and any preset MeshScale that isn't exactly 1.0, so a shared look can't re-introduce the global body-scale bug. Adds a window icon.
0.1.12 — fixes the same refusal on saves whose trailer is plain zero padding with no GVAS footer. Also validates preset part ids against the character creator's real sets, so a preset carrying an id the game has no part for (e.g. an NPC hair) can no longer be written into your save.
If 0.1.11 refused to save with the trailer diagnostic: this build handles your save, and nothing was ever written by the refusal — your save is fine.
0.1.13 — clipped-trailer save fix + preset body-slider validation
Fixes the "This save has an unrecognized trailer" refusal reported on 0.1.11.
Also extends preset validation to body sliders: applying a Look now skips body morph weights outside the character creator's -1..1 span (an extrapolated morph warps the mesh — e.g. an out-of-range Chest pinches the neck) and skips any preset MeshScale that isn't exactly 1.0, so a shared look can't re-introduce the global body-scale bug. The slider ranges are now a single source shared by the UI and that validation. Adds a window icon.
0.1.12 — fixes the same refusal when saving a length-changing edit (rename, voice, gender) on saves whose trailer is plain zero padding with no GVAS footer. Also hardens preset loading: applying a Look now validates part ids against the character creator's real sets, so a shared or hand-edited preset carrying an id the game has no part for (e.g. an NPC hair) can no longer be written into your save.
If 0.1.11 refused to save with the trailer diagnostic, this build handles your save. Nothing was ever written by the refusal — your save is fine.
0.1.11 — reachable Change-key / key recovery
Fixes a report from a Linux/SteamOS user who saw no "Recover from running game" button.
- The Recover button only appeared on the first "Set your AES key" screen (before any key was stored). Once a key was saved, there was no way back to it. Added a Change key button to the top bar (all builds) so recovery / re-pasting a key stays reachable at any time.
- Key recovery is cross-platform: the Linux build reads the key from the running game via
/proc/<pid>/mem; get fully into the world, then click Recover. change_keylabel translated for all 10 UI languages.
Linux/SteamOS: grab the Linux zip, run in Desktop Mode.
0.1.10 — hide NPC hairstyles section
Hides the experimental NPC hairstyles section in the Hair tab. It depended on the hairswap UE4SS mod, which isn't reliable yet, and was causing confusion. Everything else is unchanged from 0.1.9 (the save-corruption fix, etc.). Linux + Windows, portable.
0.1.9 — save-corruption fix + NPC hairstyles
0.1.9 — save-corruption fix + NPC hairstyles
Fixes
- "Save failed: save length … is not a multiple of 16" on rename/voice edits. Some saves expose their internal trailer differently and the editor's re-padding didn't recognize it, writing a misaligned save. It now handles that trailer shape — and if a save is ever still unrecognized it refuses and leaves your save untouched, showing a one-click Copy diagnostic to send us instead of a confusing error. Verified across rename (incl. accents / emoji / empty), voice, and gender edits.
New
- NPC hairstyles section on the Hair tab (needs the
hairswapUE4SS mod): pick an NPC-only hairstyle and the editor writes the mod's config so it applies in-game (these can't be stored in the save).
Linux + Windows, portable — unzip and run. Same source, --no-default-features gives the no-scanner build.
0.1.8 — face/skin match repair
Adds a "Match face to skin tone" button (Face/Body colour pages) to repair saves where the face doesn't match the body skin. Editing skin already keeps them matched. Includes the scale-bug fix (0.1.7), skin auto-match (0.1.6), rename fix (0.1.5). AV? https://github.com/Deaththegrim/aincrad-save-editor-noscan
