Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 11
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 11
Beta 11 brings couch co-op to Android, adds Android TV and Google TV support,
and adds Receive from PC for sending game data, mods, and saves over Wi-Fi.
It retains Beta 10's mod support, Beta 9's holiday-theme startup fix and input
improvements, Beta 8's experimental direct LAN multiplayer, and the earlier
rendering, owned-data, save-management, and DLC-entitlement improvements.
New
- Android TV and Google TV. The app appears in the TV's app list with its
own banner. The remote navigates the menus: arrows move, OK selects,
Back goes back, and Menu pauses. Touch controls stay hidden on TVs. - Receive from PC (Wi-Fi). The device shows an address and a 6-digit code;
open the address in a PC browser, enter the code, and send a ZIP. The app
recognizes game-data, mod, and save archives and installs them with the
existing importers. No cable, file manager, or ADB is needed.- On a TV, the first-start Barony game data required screen offers
Receive from PC instead of the file picker. - On phones and tablets, it is in Data & Saves > Receive from PC (Wi-Fi).
- The app only listens while that screen is open, accepts only devices on the
local network, and stops after one file, after Cancel, when you leave
the app, or after five wrong codes. It accepts.zipfiles up to 2 GB.
- On a TV, the first-start Barony game data required screen offers
- New TV guide
with step-by-step installation, data transfer, controls, and co-op.
Fixed
- Local split-screen co-op. With two to four players, every view was drawn
into Player 1's part of the screen. Each player now gets their own view: top
and bottom for two players (or side by side with Vertical Splitscreen),
quarters for three or four.
How to play couch co-op
Connect up to four gamepads, choose Play Game > New >
Local Adventure, and have each player press A on their own gamepad to
join. If the game runs slowly with several players, lower
Render Resolution to 720p.
TV requirements
TVs need a 64-bit (arm64-v8a) system. NVIDIA Shield TV is an example of a
supported device. Many streaming sticks, including Chromecast with Google TV,
run a 32-bit system and can't install the port.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
f71c5ab5ccc9a39df545a2382e9f90dad6114eae. - The APK passed signature, package/version/SDK, exact permission (only
android.permission.INTERNET), exact ARM64 native-library,
open-source-notice, and commercial-data boundary checks. - Runtime testing for this release used Android emulators, not physical
phones or TVs:- Split-screen with simulated Bluetooth gamepads: two and four players on an
Android 15 phone emulator and two and four players at 1920x1080 on an
Android 16 Google TV emulator. Each gamepad moved only its own view. - On the TV emulator: the TV launcher entry and banner, remote navigation,
and Receive from PC transfers of a 619 MB game-data archive on a fresh
install, a two-mod archive, and a save archive (the restored save appeared
under Continue). - Receive from PC rejected a wrong code, a non-ZIP file, a file that
isn't a ZIP inside, and an oversized upload; it stopped after five wrong
codes, on Cancel, on Cancel during an upload, and on Home,
leaving no partial file behind. - Phones are unchanged: touch controls appear and Back still leaves the
game. - The exact signed APK installed on both emulators with a matching hash.
On the phone emulator it reached the main menu with all required startup
markers, all three DLC packs, and the touch controls. On the TV emulator,
a fresh install received a 619 MB game-data archive through
Receive from PC on the first-start screen, then reached the Halloween
main menu with all required startup markers and all three DLC packs, with
touch controls hidden and the remote's OK and Back working.

- Hosted Android CI built and verified clean smoke and full ARM64 debug APKs
from publicmain.
Reports from physical TVs and from real couch co-op sessions are especially
welcome.
Compatibility
- ARM64 phones, tablets, and TVs running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player, local split-screen co-op for up to four players, and
experimental direct LAN multiplayer. - Gamepad, mouse/keyboard, TV remote (menus), and optional touch controls.
- Users must own compatible Barony 5.0.2 game data and any DLC they enable.
- Existing Beta 5 or newer owned-data archives, saves, settings, mods, and
transferred DLC entitlements remain compatible; no archive rebuild is
required.
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 9
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 9
Beta 9 fixes the startup failure during Barony's Halloween and winter-holiday
dates and improves touch, keyboard, and mouse input. It retains Beta 8's
experimental direct LAN multiplayer and the earlier rendering, owned-data,
save-management, and DLC-entitlement improvements.
Fixed
- The game no longer stops with "Barony has encountered a critical error and
cannot start" from October 1 to November 1 and during December (#9, #10).
Owned-data archives without Barony's optional seasonal themes now start with
the normal look on those dates. Changing the device date is no longer
necessary. - Base game data and language files now load before theme or mod overrides,
so seasonal lighting and text are layered over the base files instead of
replacing them. - Connecting both an external keyboard and an external mouse, for example over
Bluetooth, now hides the on-screen touch controls the same way a gamepad
does. Disconnecting either one restores them (#6). - Mouse clicks always reach the game and never press on-screen touch buttons.
- The inventory touch layout now includes LT and RT, which open the
spell list and the skill sheet (#7).
Optional seasonal themes
The archive builder and the ADB data installer accept -IncludeHolidayThemes
to also include Barony's Halloween and winter-holiday themes, which adds about
170 MB. Existing archives do not need to be rebuilt; rebuild only if you want
the seasonal textures, music, and lighting during those dates. Barony's
Festive Content setting can still turn the theme off on the device.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
9a37523d8e88f7ec8000224f03a06642cb314379. - The APK passed signature, package/version/SDK, exact permission, exact ARM64
native-library, open-source-notice, and commercial-data boundary checks. - Runtime testing for this release used an Android 15 x86_64 emulator and the
ARM64 build under the emulator's ARM translation, not physical phones:- On October 15 the previous build reproduced the startup failure. Beta 9
code reached the main menu with and without the seasonal themes, showed
the Halloween menu with all of its text, loaded the December theme on a
simulated December date, and entered Level 1. - An archive with the seasonal themes imported through the Android document
picker; an archive with an unexpected theme folder was rejected. - Simulated Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and gamepad connections hid and
restored the touch controls as described above, and LT/RT opened the spell
list and the skill sheet.
- On October 15 the previous build reproduced the startup failure. Beta 9
- Hosted Android CI built and verified clean smoke and full ARM64 debug APKs
from publicmain.
Reports from physical devices are especially welcome for this release.
Compatibility
- ARM64 devices running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player and experimental direct LAN multiplayer.
- Gamepad, mouse/keyboard, and optional touch controls.
- Users must own compatible Barony 5.0.2 game data and any DLC they enable.
- Existing Beta 5 or newer owned-data archives, saves, settings, and transferred
DLC entitlements remain compatible; no archive rebuild is required.
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 10
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 10
Beta 10 adds mod and translation support. It retains Beta 9's holiday-theme
startup fix and input improvements, Beta 8's experimental direct LAN
multiplayer, and the earlier rendering, owned-data, save-management, and
DLC-entitlement improvements.
New
- Mods and community translations work through Barony's own
Play Modded Game menu (#5, #8). - Data & Saves > Import mods installs mods from a ZIP, and
Remove mods uninstalls them. Changes apply the next time the game opens. - The archive builder's new
-Modsoption packs your Steam Workshop
subscriptions and local PC mods intoBarony-Android-Mods.zip. Workshop
mods are named after their Workshop titles. - Mod ZIPs from other sources can be imported directly.
Fixed
- Loading a mod now reloads only the game data that the mod changes. Before,
Android reloaded every model, sound, music track, and texture, which was slow
and used a lot of memory. - Your loaded mods are remembered even when Android closes the game in the
background.
How to use mods
Follow the step-by-step
mods guide.
Use this release's Barony-Android-Data-Archive-Builder-5.0.2.ps1; older
builders can't pack mods. Mods made for other Barony versions may not work.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
b9186f5b9eaf5febfc12c1326690c00114324630. - The APK passed signature, package/version/SDK, exact permission, exact ARM64
native-library, open-source-notice, and commercial-data boundary checks. - Runtime testing for this release used an Android 15 x86_64 emulator and the
ARM64 build under the emulator's ARM translation, not physical phones:- Mod ZIPs with a single mod, several mods, and the builder's manifest
imported and installed; a ZIP without mod files was rejected; removal
applied on the next start. - Real Steam Workshop mods (a texture pack and a 141 MB music pack) and a
language mod loaded in Play Modded Game, and each reloaded only what it
changes. - The exact signed APK installed on the emulator with a matching hash,
reached the main menu with all required startup markers, and imported
and installed a two-mod archive. A mod whose oversized data file trips a
debug-only assertion loaded without a crash.
- Mod ZIPs with a single mod, several mods, and the builder's manifest
- Hosted Android CI built and verified clean smoke and full ARM64 debug APKs
from publicmain.
Reports from physical devices are especially welcome.
Compatibility
- ARM64 devices running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player and experimental direct LAN multiplayer. For LAN games
with mods, every player has to load the same mods.
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 8
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 8
Beta 8 enables experimental direct LAN multiplayer on Android while retaining
Beta 7's adaptive HDR exposure and the earlier mobile framebuffer, input,
owned-data, save-management, and DLC-entitlement improvements.
New
- Host a direct LAN game from an Android device.
- Discover and join local lobbies from the lobby browser.
- Join by direct IPv4 address when broadcast discovery is unavailable.
- LAN socket failures now produce recoverable UI errors and Android diagnostic
markers instead of relying on assertions.
The devices must be able to communicate over the same local network. Barony's
default host port is UDP 57165. Router guest/client isolation, VPNs, hotspot
policies, or firewall rules may prevent discovery or joining.
Android permission change
The full-game APK now requests only android.permission.INTERNET, Android's
standard networking permission, for direct LAN traffic. It requests no storage,
account, microphone, location, or other permissions. The port does not enable
Steamworks, EOS, PlayFab, Internet matchmaking, achievements, Workshop, or
voice chat.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
d0cc678f7e073a5fc01f073b11c8640d35e3b21b. - The exact Beta 8 APK was installed over the LAN test build on a Galaxy S24
Ultra / Adreno 750. Its version, granted permission, required startup
markers, GLES initialization, game initialization, and main-menu startup all
passed without a framebuffer, shader, crash, or ANR failure. - The identical LAN implementation was verified with the Galaxy S24 Ultra as
UDP host and an Android x86_64 emulator as direct client. The join handshake
completed and both devices displayed the same two-player lobby at about
25 ms measured ping. - The APK passed signature, package/version/SDK, exact permission, exact ARM64
native-library, open-source-notice, and commercial-data boundary checks. - Hosted Android CI independently builds and verifies clean smoke and full
ARM64 debug APKs from publicmain.
Updating
Install the APK over Beta 5, Beta 6, Beta 7, or an earlier focused test build;
do not uninstall first. Beta 8 uses version code 15000222, so existing users
can upgrade in place while retaining owned data, saves, settings, and DLC
entitlements.
The APK is code-only and contains no commercial Barony game data or DLC assets.

HDR adaptive exposure test 1
Targeted ARM64 test build for #3 (scene brightness regression on the Poco F7 / Adreno 825).
This build restores adaptive HDR exposure using GPU mip reduction with only a 1x1 asynchronous readback. It retains the Beta 6 core RGBA8 + DEPTH24_STENCIL8 framebuffer compatibility path.
Install the APK over Beta 6. Existing compatible Barony 5.0.2 owned data and saves remain in place. The APK is code-only and does not include game data.
Please test:
- the intro stage and dark mine areas;
- brightness compared with Beta 6;
- flickering or corrupted tiles;
- frame-rate/performance at the same Native / 60 FPS settings;
- background/resume once.
Reply on #3 with the result and device behavior. Do not upload owned-data or entitlement archives.

Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 7
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 7
Beta 7 restores adaptive HDR exposure on Android so dark scenes retain normal
visibility without giving up the mobile framebuffer compatibility fixes.
Fixed
- Dark areas now adapt beyond Beta 6's fixed exposure of
2.0. - Scene luminance is reduced to 1x1 on the GPU and read asynchronously through
a double-buffered PBO, avoiding full-resolution framebuffer readback. - The proven core
RGBA8 + DEPTH24_STENCIL8framebuffer and linearly filtered
RGBA8lightmap paths remain unchanged.
Beta 6's 720p, 1080p, and Native render-resolution presets and 60, 90, and
120 FPS limits are also included.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
49cd82747307dd71f31137858bb64cf32cfbb9bf. - The exact release APK was installed over the public adaptive-HDR test build
on a Galaxy S24 Ultra / Adreno 750, and its installed hash matched the local
verified artifact. - Both checked framebuffers were complete. Adaptive exposure progressed from
2.000to3.488during startup, and no framebuffer, luminance-reduction,
shader, GL, crash, or ANR failure was detected. - Startup, lightmap, touch-layout, and all three DLC entitlement diagnostics
passed on the S24 Ultra. - The Poco F7 / Adreno 825 reporter confirmed normal brightness, no flickering
or corrupted tiles, solid performance at Native / 60 FPS, and successful
background/resume with the identical renderer implementation. - Hosted Android CI independently builds and verifies clean smoke and full
ARM64 APKs from publicmain.
Compatibility
- ARM64 devices running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player.
- Steamworks, EOS, PlayFab, achievements, Workshop, and multiplayer services
remain disabled.
Updating
Install the APK over Beta 5, Beta 6, or the adaptive-HDR test build; do not
uninstall first. Beta 7 uses version code 15000220 so test-build users can
upgrade in place. Existing owned data, saves, settings, and DLC entitlements
are retained.
The APK is code-only and contains no commercial Barony game data or DLC assets.

Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 6
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 6
Beta 6 adds mobile render-resolution and frame-rate controls while keeping the
interface at the device's native resolution.
New
- Render Resolution presets: 720p, 1080p, and Native.
- Frame Rate Limit presets: 60, 90, and 120 FPS.
- Menus, text, HUD elements, and touch coordinates remain at native resolution
when the 3D world is rendered at a lower resolution. - New installations default to the balanced 1080p / 60 FPS preset.
- Both settings are saved and apply without restarting the Android Activity.
Verification
- Clean signed ARM64 release build from commit
f26bf25e40ee05c3bbb1a06a0e5a17a1d3eeb244. - Galaxy S24 Ultra cold-start, framebuffer, renderer, input, DLC, and installed
APK integrity checks passed. - The animated title scene sustained the selected 60, 90, and 120 FPS limits
on the S24 Ultra without framebuffer, shader, GL, crash, ANR, process-death,
thermal-status, or new audio-underrun failures. - Hosted Android CI independently built and verified clean smoke and full
ARM64 APKs.
Compatibility
- ARM64 devices running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player.
- Gamepad, mouse/keyboard, and optional touch controls.
- Users must own compatible Barony 5.0.2 game data and any DLC they enable.

Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 5
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 5
Beta 5 adds offline DLC entitlement transfer for DLC owned with the user's compatible Barony 5.0.2 PC installation.
New
- Supports Myths & Outcasts, Legends & Pariahs, and Deserters & Disciples on Android.
- The Windows archive builder detects locally cached Steam DLC app tickets and stores only the corresponding pack names in the private owned-data archive.
- GOG and other DRM-free DLC key files are carried over and validated by Barony's existing license-key code.
- No Steam account ID, password, ticket contents, or Steam configuration is copied.
- ADB helper scripts now recognize wireless-debugging device names containing spaces.
Using owned DLC
- Download this release's APK and
Barony-Android-Data-Archive-Builder-5.0.2.ps1. - If using Steam, launch Barony once on the PC so Steam refreshes its cached DLC tickets.
- Run the archive builder against the owned Barony 5.0.2 installation.
- Copy the generated ZIP to Android and import it through Data & Saves, or import it at the initial data prompt.
- Exit and reopen the port when prompted.
Rebuild and re-import the owned-data archive even if Beta 4 data is already installed; the previous archive does not contain the DLC entitlement transfer file.
The generated ZIP contains commercial game data and entitlement information from the user's installation. Keep it private—do not upload it, attach it to an issue, or share it.
Compatibility
- ARM64 devices running Android 8.0 or newer.
- Offline single-player.
- Gamepad, mouse/keyboard, and touch controls.
- Users must own compatible Barony 5.0.2 game data and any DLC they enable.

Install over the previous APK; do not uninstall first. Export saves/settings from Data & Saves before uninstalling or changing devices.
The APK is code-only and includes no commercial game assets.
Barony Android Port 5.0.2 - Mali Lighting Test 1
Superseded: The affected-device fixes in this focused build were verified and are now included in Barony Android Port 5.0.2 Beta 3, which is the recommended download.
This is a focused compatibility build for issue #1: world lighting appearing almost completely black on a Galaxy Note 9 with a Mali-G72 GPU.
Changes
- Uses a normalized RGBA8 lightmap on Android instead of a linearly filtered RGBA32F texture.
- Uses standards-compliant OpenGL ES shader literals.
- Adds named shader compile/link failure markers to Android Logcat.
- Logs
BARONY_ANDROID_LIGHTMAP_FORMAT format=RGBA8 filter=LINEARwhen the new path is active.
Testing requested
Please test this build on the affected Galaxy Note 9 and report one of:
- fixed
- partially fixed
- unchanged
A gameplay screenshot is very helpful. If the problem remains and ADB is available, please also include Logcat lines containing BARONY_ANDROID_LIGHTMAP_FORMAT or BARONY_ANDROID_SHADER_.
Installation
This APK is signed with the same key as Beta 2 and has version code 5000203, so it can be installed directly over Beta 2 without removing the app or redeploying owned game data.
This remains a code-only APK. It does not contain Barony game data; users must own Barony and deploy their own data as described in the Beta 2 release.
Verification
- Source commit:
9623cb50e6f6c97ac9d9840e9b6728cd2dd25cb0 - APK SHA-256:
42bc54131d1113c274288fd41a3f7ab28cb3e440cbc718acb59cfae0c49a05ae - ARM64 only
- Android 8.0/API 26 minimum
- No Android permissions
- No commercial game data included
The clean signed build passed all six startup markers on a Galaxy S24 Ultra, reported the RGBA8 lightmap marker, and showed no shader failure, crash, or ANR. Mali-G72 verification is the purpose of this prerelease.
