record host value contains illegal character(s)

The record host needs to use characters that are legal in DNS. These include numbers, upper and lower case US ascii characters, hyphen, and underscore. A host can also be a lonely star (wildcard) or at-mark (used for Domain Connect host expansion) character. None of the other characters are allowed.
