Dyeing Snails

EVERY snail in the mod can have its shell recolored, whether it's still a creature or already crafted into a calling device.

How to Dye

Right-Click Dyeing

Right-click a tamed Den Den Mushi, or a placed Transponder Snail block, with any dye to recolor its shell on the spot.

Crafting Table Dyeing

Place a snail item together with a dye in a crafting table. You'll get the same snail back, with a new shell color. (Note: For Baby Black Transponder Snails, where the dye is placed in the crafting table, will change whether the Shell or Band is dyed)

What Changes (and What Doesn't)

Dyeing only recolors the shell. A snail's body color — and, for snails that have one, its band color — stays exactly as it was. Nothing else about the snail (its call number, its type, its function) is affected.

Color Options

All 16 standard Minecraft dye colors are supported, so you have the full palette to work with, and you can re-dye a snail as many times as you like.

Tips

  • Color-code your Transponder Snails so you and others can tell them apart at a glance.
  • Match a snail's shell to your base, team, or personal color scheme.
  • Since body color is randomly generated per-snail and can't be changed, no two undyed Den Den Mushi look quite the same — dyeing just gives you control over the shell on top of that.
