Signal Radar for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge)

Status: Complete & Released (branch 1.20.1). Signal Radar is fully ported and supported on Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge with complete feature parity, optimized performance, and modern mod integrations.

Requirements

  • Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Mod Loader: Forge 47.1.0 or higher
  • Java: 17+ (built with Java 17 toolchain)
  • Side: Required on both Client and Server. No other mod is strictly required.

Features

Signal Radar 1.20.1 provides all features from the 1.21.1 version:

  • Handheld CRT Display: Real-time rotating sweep drawn directly on the held radar item (no GUI or HUD overlay).
  • Five Radar Tiers: Upgradable via radar modules, scaling range, reducing positional fuzz, and expanding addon slots.
  • Addon System: Custom modular upgrades for detecting containers, ores, biosigns/mobs, motion, structures, batteries, and optional mods.
  • Narrative Targets: Plain datapack JSON targets (pos, structure, entity, block locators) with per-player stages, unlock conditions, and found flow.
  • Server-Authoritative: Scans computed server-side with fuzz, name reveal, and packet syncing.

Key Differences from 1.21.1

1. Asynchronous Structure Searches

Structure lookups in 1.20.1 are offloaded to an asynchronous background worker daemon thread. Heavy structure generator calculations (such as searching over a 64-chunk radius in dimensions with 100+ structures) will never block or stutter the main server tick loop.

2. Addon Slot Quick-Move

The addon menu supports full-stack shift-clicking:

  • Battery Modules: Shift-clicking a stack of up to 8 batteries inserts the entire stack into an available addon slot in a single click.
  • Slot Capacity: Addon slots automatically enforce maxInSlot (8 for batteries, 1 for other functional addons).

3. Ore Detection Tags

In 1.20.1, block tags use the standard plural directory convention: data/signalradar/tags/blocks/ore_targets.json. The detector actively matches #signalradar:ore_targets, #forge:ores, and #c:ores, ensuring full compatibility with vanilla ores, Forge common ores, and modded ores.

4. Optional Mod Integrations

  • Manhole Travel (1.7.3+): Detects all nearby manholes (city manholes, home manholes, and open manholes) with per-look icons.
  • Lootr (1.20.1): Detects unopened instanced Lootr containers.
  • FTB Teams (Architectury 1.20.1): Displays online team members with custom color blips across the dimension.
  • KubeJS 6 (1.20.1): Register custom addons and listen to scan events using KubeJS 6 startup and server scripts.

Datapacks & Modpacks

For pack makers creating custom content on 1.20.1:

  • Tag paths: Use 1.20.1 folder naming:
    • data/<namespace>/tags/blocks/
    • data/<namespace>/tags/items/
    • data/<namespace>/tags/entity_types/
  • Sub-tag references: Always include the # prefix when referencing other tags in values (e.g. "#forge:ores").
  • Target files: Located in data/<namespace>/signalradar/target/<name>.json.

Configuration

Configurations are stored in:

  • config/signalradar-client.toml: Zoom key, radar hand orientation, sound settings, display brightness.
  • config/signalradar-startup.toml: Mod startup options.
  • saves/<world>/serverconfig/signalradar-server.toml (or defaultconfigs/signalradar-server.toml):
    • energy.capacity & energy.maxReceive
    • scan.scanCost, scan.rangeByTier, scan.structureSearchMaxChunks (default: 64)
    • addons.*: individual toggles, tier requirements, energy costs, and detection radii.
