@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 23 Jul 00:06

R3NE 0.7.1 — Live Wire (hotfix)

Timeline-clip follow-ups: no more silently lost wiring, undo on clip placement, and clips that keep their length.

Fixed

  • Wiring edits now count as unsaved changes — a session whose last edits were pure connections (e.g. two movies stacked into a Picture) used to quit without a save prompt and silently lose the wires. Connecting, disconnecting and parameter links now mark the project as edited, so the save prompt and autosave kick in.
  • Undo on timeline clips — dragging a clip block (and moving/resizing active regions) registers one undo step per gesture; ⌘Z / ⇧⌘Z work on clip placement.
  • Clips keep their length — clip duration is saved with the project and seeds the timeline block while the media loads or when the file is missing, so a disconnected/missing clip no longer collapses to zero.
  • OSC re-targets the current graph after New/Open (stale reference).

R3NE 0.7 — Live Wire

R3NE steps on stage. 0.7 introduces Live Mode: a second way to see your composition — not as a graph, but as a performance control surface. Big buttons, rotary knobs, bento-grid tiles: build in the graph, perform in Live.

Added

  • Live Mode — a new "Live" tab over the canvas (⌘L, or Live → Live Dashboard). Opted-in nodes appear as tiles on a free dashboard grid: drag a tile by its header to move it, resize from the corner, everything snaps to the grid (overlaps are rejected — nothing reflows mid-set). Layout is saved per project.
  • Tiles built for hands — each tile carries a giant ON/BYPASS button and the node's published parameters (the antenna toggles) as flat rotary knobs and large latch buttons. Tap a tile to select the node in the inspector.
  • R3Knob — new rotary control: 270° arc, vertical drag, ⇧ for fine control, double-click to reset, editable value readout. Full MIDI learn (badge + latch menu), keyframe diamond, auto-key and undo — everything the sliders do.
  • Show in Live — opt nodes in from the grid button in Properties or right-click → "Show in Live" on the canvas.
  • Timeline clips — video players in timeline-sync mode now place as draggable clip blocks on their track, with Clip Start and In point controls.
  • Picture: multiple sources — the texture input accepts multiple connections (e.g. several placed clips active at different times); the active one shows automatically.

Performance

  • MIDI input coalesces flooded controller values per 120 Hz window — flick a fader across a dashboard full of tiles and the UI keeps up.
  • Live tiles resolve their parameter list once, not on every MIDI-driven redraw.

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 11 Jul 21:13

R3NE 0.6.62 — Signal Flow (patch)

Contact Sheet center-out chase, Syphon Output orientation control, and optional latch mode for MIDI note mappings.

Added

  • Contact Sheet: Center out — cells reveal by distance from the grid's center, growing in rings (with Reverse it runs outside-in). The cumulative frame delay follows the same radial order. MIDI-assignable like every other toggle.
  • MIDI latch mode — right-click a mapping badge to switch a note mapping between momentary (press = ON, release = OFF) and latch (each press flips the parameter). The same menu removes the mapping.
  • Syphon Output: Flip vertical toggle — pick the frame origin the receiver expects (on by default).

Fixed

  • Syphon Output (node and Root server) no longer arrives upside down in GL-origin receivers (Resolume et al.).

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 11 Jul 06:14

R3NE 0.6.61 — Signal Flow (patch)

Live-control follow-ups for the Signal Flow inputs and the Contact Sheet.

Added

  • MIDI notes on Contact Sheet toggles — every Contact Sheet toggle (reverse, fill order, frame delay, fade out, auto size, match proportion, preserve aspect, reset) is now MIDI-learnable, with the same learn highlight and mapping badge as sliders. Notes act as momentary switches: press = ON, release = OFF — hold a note on Reset to freeze the chase and release to relaunch it. Also reachable via OSC/MCP.
  • Syphon Input: Flip vertical toggle — senders differ in frame origin, so the vertical flip is now a per-node toggle (on by default) instead of always applied.

Fixed

  • Syphon Input frames no longer arrive upside down from GL-origin senders (Resolume et al.).

R3NE 0.6.52

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 02 Jul 07:19

R3NE 0.6.52 — Fresh Coat (patch)

Bug fixes for the inspector, resets, Vision and MIDI.

New

  • Double-click to reset. Double-click a slider's name to reset it to its default, and double-click a color wheel in Advanced Color Correction to recenter it.

Fixed

  • Reset actually resets everything. The ↺ button now restores numeric values, ports AND options (e.g. Person Segmentation quality) to defaults — without touching your connections, keyframes or MIDI maps.
  • MIDI reaches Advanced Color Correction. Its parameters (exposure, contrast, the HSL qualifier, etc.) can now be MIDI-mapped and keyframed.
  • Vision stays smooth live. Depth / Person Segmentation / Face / Pose / Blob run inference asynchronously in the live preview (synchronous, frame-accurate inference now applies to export only) — no more main-thread stalls, laggy preview, or the UI freezing when a menu is open over a live Vision node.
  • The MIDI menu no longer freezes while a controller is sending data.
  • The inspector no longer hitches when opening a dropdown on Live Input / Audio Input nodes.

R3NE 0.6.51 — Fresh Coat (patch)

A quick fix on top of 0.6.5.

Fixed

  • Inspector sliders track again. Dragging a parameter slider now moves the knob smoothly instead of leaving it stuck while the value changed — both the generic node inspector sliders and the shader @input parameter sliders.

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 10 Jul 06:32

R3NE 0.6.6 — Signal Flow

Live signal in, live signal out — and a batch of new performance nodes. R3NE now receives NDI and Syphon feeds directly into the graph, tames mixed-proportion photo decks with automatic reframing, and adds Strobe, Clone Chaser and Contact Sheet to the stylize arsenal.

Added

  • NDI Input node — receive video over the network from Resolume, OBS, or any NDI source. Auto-discovers sources on the network; on load it reconnects to the saved source (or defaults to the first available and switches to the saved one as soon as it comes online).
  • Syphon Input node — receive a GPU texture from any Syphon server on the system (Resolume, MadMapper, VDMX, another R3NE) with zero-copy sharing.
  • Auto Crop node — detects and removes letterbox/pillarbox bars automatically and reframes the content (fit or fill). Built for feeds where every image has a different proportion, with adjustable threshold, margin, uniform auto-padding border, and temporal smoothing with instant snap on composition changes.
  • Strobe node — color + alpha strobe with a full attack / duration / release envelope. Fires at an internal rate or in pulse mode from the rising edge of any float input — connect an LFO and its frequency drives the strobe. Color is overridable via a color input port.
  • Contact Sheet node — tiles the input into a cols×rows grid where each cell shows the frame delayed by a cumulative, parametrizable number of frames, revealed by a timed chase (configurable fill order, reverse, fade-out exit) with a synchronized flash. Auto size mode detects the content's true proportion and shapes every cell to it — with an animated transition between sizes, alpha-based detection option, and uniform per-cell auto-padding.
  • Clone Chaser node — N tiled clones revealed in a timed chase (center-out or reverse) with flash pulse, padding, cycle and aspect-preserving cells.
  • Picture: aspect ratio modes — Preserve aspect ratio now offers Fit (letterbox), Fill (auto crop), and Auto size (the width follows each image's proportion — no manual adjustment per photo).
  • Remote parameters everywhere — OSC (/<Node>/<param>) and the MCP set_params tool now reach node parameters that aren't input ports (Contact Sheet, Strobe, Advanced Color Correction, …), the same set MIDI and keyframes use; the Remote Parameters panel lists them all with copy-ready addresses.
  • Frame Buffer: frame count — the feedback delay is now adjustable (1–30 frames), and Frame Buffer / Frame Delay gained inspector controls.

Fixed

  • Ring-buffer nodes (Contact Sheet, Frame Buffer, Frame Delay) no longer flash magenta/pink while their history fills or when the buffer is resized — fresh buffers are cleared to transparent.
  • Contact Sheet auto size crops cleanly with no dark edge pixels around cells.

R3NE 0.6.5

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 01 Jul 20:32

R3NE 0.6.5 — Fresh Coat

A cleaner, more delightful node canvas — flowing wires, alignment tools, a searchable library, 2D transform gizmos, node error/bypass states, and a redesigned welcome.

New

  • Cable flow you can read. Wires now show direction with a subtle animated flow on hover/selection, highlight the cable under the cursor, and dim the unrelated ones so a busy graph stays legible.
  • Canvas tooling. A minimap for big graphs, alignment guides while dragging, and snap-to-grid — all in the View menu.
  • Search the node library. A search field at the top of the library filters every node by name; results are draggable straight onto the canvas.
  • 2D transform gizmos. Move, rotate and scale a Picture right in the viewport, with an Apple-style rotation handle. Hold ⇧ Shift to snap — rotation to a degree step and moving to a pixel grid — both adjustable in Settings → Canvas.
  • Node states you can see. A node that fails to evaluate or compile now shows a red error border, a status LED and the message on hover, and bypassed nodes read at a glance with a dimmed look and a “BYPASS” badge.
  • Redesigned welcome screen. A cleaner two-column launcher — recent projects and actions on the left, the R3NE mark on the right.

Improved

  • A calmer, sharper canvas. Refined node look with a magenta selection glow, a cleaner grid, and more legible port labels and values.
  • Centered, simpler window title — just the file name and R3NE.
  • Lighter and faster. Static shaders (no time/animation) no longer re-render every frame, and the canvas skips redundant per-tick UI work — smoother with big graphs.

Fixed

  • 3D camera stays put. Opening a project with a Gaussian splat no longer auto-frames and overwrites your saved camera — it used to land in a different spot each time.

R3NE 0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 18 Jun 16:41

R3NE 0.6.0 — Full Spectrum

The biggest visual-quality update yet: an end-to-end color pipeline with wide gamut and HDR, a professional grading node, and Apple Spatial Video.

New

  • Color pipeline — 10/16-bit, linear light, Display P3 & HDR. Project Settings (⌘⇧,) now drives how R3NE renders color end to end. Choose the precision (8-bit, 10-bit, or 16-bit float — kills banding in gradients and feedback), the working space (gamma, or physically-correct linear light for accurate blending, blur and lighting), and the output color space (sRGB / Rec.709, wide-gamut Display P3, or HDR/EDR for XDR displays). Preview, fullscreen, Syphon/NDI and exported files are all tagged so other apps and displays don't have to guess. Defaults stay 8-bit / gamma / sRGB — existing projects look identical until you opt in.
  • Advanced Color Correction node. A complete grade in a single node, applied in a fixed pro order: white balance → exposure → contrast → highlights / shadows / whites / blacks → Lift / Gamma / Gain / Offset color wheels → saturation / vibrance → RGB curves (master + per-channel) → HSL curves → an HSL secondary to key and regrade just one color range. Interactive color-balance trackballs and draggable curve editors live in the inspector.
  • Spatial Video (MV-HEVC). Play Apple Spatial Video clips — outputs the left / right eye plus a stereo depth map. Pair the eye with Depth Estimation for cleaner depth, and feed a Depth Point Cloud for a 3D look.

Improved

  • Vision effects are frame-accurate when you render. Depth Estimation, Person Segmentation and Face / Pose / Blob now grade the exact frame being exported instead of trailing an inference behind. A new Synchronous (frame-accurate) toggle locks them to the current frame in the live preview too.
  • 3D scenes composite in linear light when the project's working space is linear, for correct blending and bloom.
  • The Post-FX library has a cleaner Color section, and node header colors match their category.

Fixed

  • Project Settings persist. Output resolution and frame rate are now saved with the project and restored on open — they used to revert to defaults.
  • HDR output and export no longer crash — the on-screen gizmos and the export/NDI readback paths handle the 16-bit float pipeline correctly.
  • Depth Point Cloud and other 3D layers no longer freeze during export — the timeline renderer re-renders them every frame.
  • Procedural generators keep their saturation in linear working space.

R3NE 0.5.1

Choose a tag to compare

@FranciscoOutonB FranciscoOutonB released this 10 Jun 18:09

R3NE 0.5.1 — Five on 0.5

Five fixes hardening the 0.5 release: a locked-down local network, sturdier MIDI, and projects that reopen exactly as you saved them.

Fixed

  • Local network locked down by default. The control API (MCP) and the OSC input now listen on this Mac only, instead of being reachable by anyone on the same Wi-Fi. A new Settings → Network tab lets you opt either one back into LAN access when you actually want remote control — for example OSC from TouchOSC on a tablet. Claude / MCP on the same machine keeps working either way.
  • MIDI no longer crashes on real-world controllers. The packet parser was reading past the end of multi-packet lists, so controllers that batch messages (note-on + note-off together) or send sysex could crash the app mid-performance. It now walks the packet list safely and clamps every read. Unplugging and replugging a controller mid-session reconnects automatically instead of going silent.
  • Optical Flow handles any resolution. It used to assume 1920×1080 and crash on, say, a 720p video feed; it now tracks the input's real size.
  • Projects restore parameter routing on open. Audio / LFO → parameter links were saved but silently dropped when reopening a project. They're back.
  • Scene3D connections reload reliably. Scenes with multiple geometries, lights or particle feeds could lose some connections at random on load (it depended on save order). All dynamic-port connections now restore correctly.
