Impulse Anvil 1.0.123 — Stability Fix

Fixed

  • Fixed a DAW freeze that could occur when removing an Impulse Anvil instance after the plug-in editor had been opened.

macOS — Fully Functional Testing Builds

Impulse Anvil 1.0.123 is also available for macOS in:

  • VST3
  • Audio Unit (AU)
  • Standalone

The macOS version is fully functional.

Mac users can purchase Impulse Anvil, activate their license, unlock the full version, save projects, and use all licensed functionality normally.

The testing designation refers only to the current macOS distribution and support status — it does not mean that the plug-in is feature-limited, demo-only, or unable to be licensed.

Important macOS installation notice

The current macOS builds are not signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and are not notarized by Apple.

Because of this, macOS may initially block the application or plug-in and display a warning that the developer cannot be verified. Depending on your macOS version, you may need to manually allow Impulse Anvil through System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Once permitted by macOS, Impulse Anvil can be installed, licensed and used normally.

For security, download the macOS builds only from the official FreQtik website or the official FreQtik GitHub release.

Residual / Decompose modes let you explore shared material, source-specific leftovers and different forms of A/B difference instead of only blending between two IRs.

The Acoustic Interaction family adds deeper structural relationships including cascading two responses, stabilized transfer, magnitude/phase crossbreeding, controlled cancellation and time-frequency interaction.

Glue Path

Glue Path joins Draw and Path as a new authored-IR workflow.

  • Paint up to six independent source-time strokes.
  • Start and finish each stroke anywhere.
  • Move right to travel forward through source-time.
  • Move left to read earlier source material again.
  • Strokes are joined in the order they were created.
  • The route itself determines the resulting duration.
  • Glue timing is independent of Lerp Start / Lerp Time.
  • Precision Nodes preserve the original forward/backward route while editing.
  • Preview and Bake use the same prepared construction.

Focus View

A, Morph, B, EQ, Edit and Out can now expand into Focus View.

The existing live controls are rearranged into a larger workspace rather than creating a separate parameter page. Return to Overview and the exact same state remains active.

IR Browser

LOAD now opens a dedicated in-plugin IR Browser for A or B.

Removing a custom folder only removes its registration from Impulse Anvil. It never deletes the user's audio files.

Global Undo / Redo

Impulse Anvil now keeps a 128-step transactional edit history.

Release hardening

The final release also contains the accumulated stability and UI hardening from the v141 development line, including browser lifecycle fixes, Glue/Align display fixes, tooltip/readability cleanup, focused-EQ layout correction, section Random alignment, A/B Color alignment and final Liquid Slate lighting/selection polish.

Updating

Replace the complete existing Impulse Anvil.vst3 folder with the new version, then rescan the plugin in your DAW if required.

Impulse Anvil v1.0.121

This update expands Impulse Anvil's IR design system substantially while keeping the existing workflow.

Draw Morph Curves

The Morph Curve selector now includes Draw.

Instead of choosing only a predefined Linear, Exp, Log or S-Curve, you can directly draw how Impulse Anvil moves between A and B.

Draw curves are saved with:

  • DAW projects
  • Impulse Anvil presets
  • baked IRs

The curve used for preview is the same curve used for Bake.

Path — Draw Through Time

A completely new Morph Curve mode has been added:

Path

Path lets you draw not only the A/B blend, but also how Impulse Anvil travels through the IR over time.

Moving:

  • right = move forward through the IR
  • left = move backwards through the IR
  • upward = move toward B
  • downward = move toward A

This means a Path can contain real backwards sections.

For example:

forward → backward → forward

The backwards part actually reads earlier IR samples again.

If the path travels backwards, the resulting IR can become longer because more source material is being travelled.

A straight Path stays the normal duration.

Path rendering is performed safely outside the realtime audio thread and remains bounded by Impulse Anvil's IR safety limits.

Long Path Drawing

Detailed paths can now be drawn continuously.

Impulse Anvil automatically simplifies very long strokes internally while preserving:

  • forward movement
  • backwards movement
  • A/B changes
  • playback order
  • endpoints

This keeps presets small and performance predictable without suddenly stopping the user while drawing.

Draw Tools

A compact toolbar is built directly into the curve display:

  • U — Undo
  • S — Smooth
  • N — Precision Nodes
  • F — Free
  • R — Reset

Free Draw

Normally a Draw curve begins at A and finishes at B.

Enable F to unlock both ends.

You can now create shapes such as:

A → B → A

or start and finish anywhere between A and B.

The graph also clearly shows:

  • B at the top
  • A at the bottom

so the direction of the blend is immediately understandable.

Precision Nodes

Enable N to turn the drawn curve into editable control points.

This makes it possible to clean up a hand-drawn curve and adjust important transitions precisely while keeping smooth interpolation.


Lerp Timing Reworked

Lerp timing is now expressed directly in milliseconds.

The old hidden minimum/start behaviour has been removed.

You now get:

  • Lerp Start
  • Lerp Time

Both describe the actual timing directly.

This makes tiny and highly precise transformations possible.

Timing Follows the IR

The available Lerp timing range now follows the actual prepared A/B IR duration.

If the current IR is approximately 5 seconds long, the control no longer unnecessarily shows a 30-second range.

Stretch and Color/Texture timing changes are also considered when determining the available duration.


Visual IR Length Indicator

The Morph curve display now shows the waveforms of A and B

This makes it possible to immediately understand where one IR ends before the other without adding another control or taking up additional UI space, aswell as visually identifying spots in IRs you want to draw a path to


True 0 ms Fade

Fade In = 0 ms now really means 0 ms.

Previous safety fades could still soften extremely short IR selections even when Fade In was set to zero.

Those hidden fades have been removed from the authored IR path.

This is especially useful for:

  • tiny 1–5 ms IR slices
  • transient design
  • clicks and impulses
  • micro-textures
  • extremely short experimental convolution material

Color Offset Extended

Color Offset can now reach up to 500 ms.

This expands Color from subtle timing/phase effects into much larger creative structures.

Small offsets can create:

  • comb-like effects
  • phase interaction
  • dense coloration

Larger offsets can create:

  • reflections
  • echoes
  • layered attacks
  • unusual spatial structures

Randomization remains biased toward musically useful shorter offsets instead of constantly creating extreme values.


Theme Schema 2

Impulse Anvil themes can now style each major section individually.

Separate optional theme overrides are available for:

  • A
  • B
  • Morph
  • EQ
  • Edit
  • Out

Each section can independently define:

  • panel color
  • border
  • accent
  • highlight
  • knob color
  • text color

If a section does not provide an override, it automatically inherits the global theme.

Old Schema 1 themes remain compatible.

Better Theme Editor

Customize Current Theme now includes editing for the individual Schema 2 panels.

Theme Export also exports a full Schema 2 structure, making it much easier to give the JSON to an AI and ask it to design a complete Impulse Anvil theme.

A default Schema 2 example is included as a starting point.


New Impulse Anvil Dialogs

Updated dialogs include:

  • Bake confirmation
  • Theme Export confirmation

Successful Bake and Theme Export dialogs can also open the generated file location directly.


Better IR Browser Behaviour

Load WAV… no longer defaults to the old installer-era empty Documents/User IRs folder on a clean setup.

The browser now prefers:

  1. the last folder you browsed
  2. your configured Custom IR Folder
  3. the Factory IR library bundled inside the VST3
  4. legacy library locations when available

This better matches the current drag-and-drop VST3 distribution model.

The Baked IRs folder remains in Documents, since generated user files should remain outside the plugin bundle.

Impulse Anvil v1.0.120

This maintenance release refreshes the Windows commercial build and release package after the project was migrated to the current JUCE 8 toolchain.

  • Rebuilt the Windows 64-bit VST3 with JUCE 8.0.13

Compatibility

  • No intentional changes were made to the DSP workflow, parameter IDs, project-state format, factory IR library, license entitlement, or demo restrictions.

Installation

  1. Download and extract ImpulseAnvil_Windows_VST3.zip.

Version 1.0.119

This update focuses on a cleaner workflow, improved A/B slot handling, new spatial morph behavior, better loudness control, and a more coherent randomization/layout experience.


Release Builds

Official Supported Build

The official supported public release is currently:

  • Windows 10/11
  • 64-bit VST3
  • Manual ZIP install

Download the Windows ZIP, extract it, and copy the complete Impulse Anvil.vst3 folder into the system VST3 folder.

New Spatial Morph Modes

Two new Morph Modes have been added.

Stereo Slot Swap

Stereo Slot Swap creates a stereo morph field where the left channel moves from Slot A to Slot B, while the right channel moves from Slot B to Slot A.

This is not a simple pan effect. It is designed as a spatial A/B movement mode.

Mid/Side Boundary

Mid/Side Boundary keeps Slot A in the center/mid field while introducing Slot B into the side/outside field.

The Morph amount controls how wide the mid/side boundary becomes.

Both new Morph Modes are supported in normal Morph preview, A-to-B Lerp preview, project restore, and Lerp Bake/export.


Improved Drag & Drop Slot Routing

A/B drag-and-drop behavior has been improved.

Dropping a WAV file onto the A panel now reliably loads Slot A.
Dropping a WAV file onto the B panel now reliably loads Slot B.

The empty-slot fallback behavior outside the A/B panels is preserved.


Loudness & Normalize Workflow Cleanup

The loudness workflow has been cleaned up to make A/B balancing more predictable.

Per-Slot Normalize

Slot A and Slot B now have their own Normalize controls.

The old global IR Normalize control has been hidden from the interface, while old sessions remain compatible. Projects that used the old global Normalize setting are migrated safely to the new A/B Normalize setup.

Better Gain Behavior

Slot Gain remains useful even when Normalize is enabled.

This makes it easier to compensate, push, or reduce each slot after normalization.

Output/Post Normalize

Output/Post Normalize now defaults to ON.

The visible Post Limiter now clearly controls final output limiting. When the Post Limiter is OFF, normal floating-point overs are allowed through, while emergency protection still guards against invalid or extreme signal values.

Less Surprise Resetting

Random, load, and reset workflows no longer unexpectedly reset Wet Level to -30 dB, except for factory startup defaults.


Randomization Workflow Improvements

Randomization has been reorganized so each button has a clearer purpose.

A/B Full Slot Random

A/B full-slot random buttons randomize the full slot IR selection and related full-slot behavior.

A/B Color Random

The A/B Color-header random buttons now randomize the current IR’s Color controls only.

This keeps the loaded IR in place while still allowing fast sound-design variation.

Morph Random

Morph Random is available directly in the Morph card as a compact top-right button.

It randomizes Morph-related controls only and keeps the loaded A/B IR files in place.

Section-Local Random Buttons

EQ and EDIT now have their own local random buttons.

Safer Gain Randomization

A/B Random now resets Slot Gain to 0 dB and no longer randomizes gain above unity.

This prevents randomization from unexpectedly pushing loudness too aggressively.


Layout & Usability Polish

Several interface details have been cleaned up for a more consistent workflow.

  • Init/Reset Controls has been moved into the Options menu.
  • Clicking the A, B, or Morph panel background now selects that mode.
  • Moving a Color voice knob automatically enables that Color voice, so the change becomes immediately audible.
  • Morph Mode and Curve dropdowns are now centered in the Morph panel.
  • K and Lerp Time now use compact horizontal controls above the curve display.
  • Align Peaks has been renamed to Align with a clearer tooltip.
  • Post random tooltip now clarifies that it affects EQ, EDIT, and OUT.

Fixes

  • Fixed A/B WAV drag-and-drop target detection.
  • Fixed EDIT double-click reset behavior when linked Start/End or reverse Fade Out are active.
  • Fixed Morph Random build handling from the previous internal build step.

Preserved Compatibility

Existing projects and sessions remain compatible.


Summary

Version 1.0.119 makes Impulse Anvil more coherent, safer to randomize, easier to balance, and more expressive in stereo/spatial morphing.

The official supported release remains Windows VST3. The macOS build is included only as an experimental unsigned/unnotarized test build for users who understand the current macOS security limitations.

Impulse Anvil v1.0.112 is the current public release build, focused on creative IR design, faster source loading, mode-aware morph baking, prepared-IR accuracy, and a cleaner finished workflow for sculpting and exporting custom WAV impulse responses.

Faster IR loading workflow

  • Supported audio files (wav, flac, aif, aiff) can now be dragged directly from any folder onto IR A or IR B.
  • This makes it much faster to audition recordings, field sounds, fabric noises, room snaps, cab IRs, texture files and personal IR libraries.
  • Drag-and-drop loading works outside the DAW browser, so users can pull files straight from normal system folders.
  • This improves the core creative workflow: record something, drag it in, sculpt it, morph it, then bake the result.

A/B IR Swap

  • Added a dedicated A/B Swap workflow for loaded IR sources.
  • A and B can now be exchanged quickly without rebuilding the whole setup manually by pressing "S" in the A section.
  • The current parameter setup stays intact, making it easier to test how the same sculpting context reacts when the source positions are reversed.
  • This is especially useful when comparing morph direction, A→B Lerp behavior, peak alignment and source balance.

Mode-aware A→B Lerp

  • A→B Lerp now uses the selected Morph Mode.
  • Time Morph keeps the familiar smooth time-domain Lerp behavior.
  • Spectral Morph, BandSwap and ZigZag now create their own mode-specific evolving IRs.
  • Lerp Preview and baked A→B exports now use the same mode-aware rendering logic.
  • Morph Mode remains meaningful while A→B Lerp is active because it now defines how the transition from A to B is built.
  • This makes baked A→B IRs much more powerful: the movement inside the exported WAV can now be spectral, hybrid or experimental instead of only time-based.

Prepared IR and Edit range behavior

  • Improved how the prepared IR length is calculated after time stretch, Color, Texture, morphing and post-sculpt processing.
  • Start, End, Fade In and Fade Out now follow the actual prepared IR more consistently.

EQ improvements

  • Expanded the EQ from one Bell to three Bell bands.
  • Bell 1 is enabled by default; Bell 2 and Bell 3 can be selected and edited when needed.
  • Bell bands remain audible; selection controls which bell is edited.
  • Bell controls can be edited through the EQ graph.
  • Double-clicking a Bell can select it for faster editing.
  • Mouse wheel over a selected Bell adjusts Q.
  • Bell frequency range now reaches down to 30 Hz for low resonance control.
  • Selected Bell renders in front when bands overlap.
  • Dragging behavior was improved to avoid snapping/jumping.

Resonance Assist

  • Added Resonance Assist to the EQ background.
  • Shows up to three strongest tonal resonance zones of the current prepared IR.
  • Stronger resonance appears more visually intense.
  • Weaker or balanced resonance appears more subtle.
  • Frequency labels are shown directly in the EQ view.
  • Resonance Assist updates after EQ changes.
  • HP and LP filters are respected, so hidden/cut frequency ranges are not shown as misleading resonances.
  • This is visual-only and does not change the sound.
  • Analysis is performed in the editor/on-change path, not in the audio thread.

Output and level workflow

  • Cleaned up the output model:
    • IR In controls level entering the prepared/baked IR sculpt chain.
    • Out controls final plugin output level only.
  • Removed the previous Out + / IR Out mode because IR In now covers that workflow more clearly.
  • Legacy IR Out parameters remain internally for preset/project compatibility but are no longer exposed in the UI.
  • Out no longer changes the IR display or prepared IR.
  • Wet Level now resets on IR changes to reduce unexpected loudness jumps.
  • Limiter behavior was clarified as a final safety stage without hidden makeup gain.

Randomization

  • Improved randomization behavior across IR slots and Post / Sculpt.
  • Added square icon-style Random buttons.
  • Random theme button added for quick design inspiration.
