Major Systems
A Major system is a mapping from digits to letters and consonants. Dzejnik uses it to turn numbers into words, and words back into numbers, so that a year becomes something you can picture and remember.
Dzejnik ships five systems. They differ in which word list they were measured against and in what they were tuned for. None of them is "the best" β the choice is yours, and Options always shows exactly which one you are learning.
| System | What it is for |
|---|---|
| π―οΈ Dzejnik Major | The app's production system for encoding numbers and building associations. It is the default, and it can also be used for memorising dates. |
| πΊ MAX 40k | Tuned for broad vocabulary coverage over the 40k corpus. |
| π° Event 40k | Tuned for historical events over the 40k corpus. |
| π³ MAX 200k | Very high coverage over the larger 200k corpus. |
| 𦣠Event 200k | Tuned for historical years and events over the larger corpus. |
Roughly: if you want the widest vocabulary coverage, look at the MAX systems; if your main interest is historical dates, look at the Event systems.
Open Options β Major System. Each system is listed with a checkmark on the current one, and an β opens its digit assignment and coverage figures without changing your selection.
The same list is described under Learn β Major systems, which shows which system is currently selected and offers a button that takes you straight to Options.
The selected system determines how words are encoded, which words are suggested while you learn, and which dictionaries the learning module searches. It also decides what Learn the system asks you.
Every system assigns characters to the digits 0β9, plus a set of fillers β letters that carry no digit and exist only to make words readable. Fillers are shown separately and can be dimmed in the display aids.
The full assignment for the system you are using is always available in the app:

Coverage describes how many of the years 1β2500 have at least one word in the dictionaries you selected. It is counted from the dictionaries that actually ship with the app.
When several mnemonic word languages are selected, the combined figure is the union of the available codes, not an average of the languages β so adding a language can only raise it.
Coverage figures are frozen research measurements. The app reports them; it does not recompute or rank them.
Coverage is shown on Options β Coverage 1β2500.
