Version 0.9.8 of the Android port of ZeldaWWHDRecomp: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U, USA, Europe and Japan) as a native Android app.
What's new in 0.9.8
Updating from 0.9.7 or 0.9.6 takes seconds: no new preparation of the game code, and save states keep working.
Fixed issues
- Menu language (issue #62): Game › Menu language sets the language of the app's own menus apart from the game's: English by default, or one of your copy's languages. Applies after a restart.
- GamePad sounds (issue #64): the sounds the Wii U plays on the GamePad speaker alone (its menus, switching items, saving) were silent. They are heard now, and the options menu uses the GamePad menus' own sounds, read from your game files. Game › GamePad sounds (on) switches both.
- On-screen controls off (issue #63): Controls › On-screen controls is back at the top of the tab. Switched off, only the menu button shows and a touch doesn't bring the controls back. With a controller, holding Select or pressing Home / Guide opens the menu without touching the screen.
- Controller buttons stay as set (issue #61): a controller's own button assignment, from the setup or from single rebinds, was replaced by the shared one after the next layout refresh. It now stays. The app's menus also follow the Wii U's A and B: with the buttons "by their letters" (or A and B swapped in Controller buttons), A selects and B goes back.
Controllers
- Hold to go on in talks moved to the Game tab and works with a controller too: hold A and the talk goes on by itself, page by page, up to a question (optionally in fast forward).
- With a controller the sword and the Deku Leaf stay in Link's hand until A puts them away, as on the Wii U. By touch they still go away by themselves.
- Controls › Controller › L turns the GamePad page (off): in play, L no longer flips the game's GamePad screen between Items and Map.
- The controller setup can be finished without touching: on Try it, hold Start for Done or Select for Change.
- Some controllers' motion sensors and rumble only reach apps when the device's kernel has a driver for them (a DualSense needs Linux 5.12 or newer). Without it the menu now says so, and Controller details explains why, instead of the options silently missing.
What 0.9.7 and 0.9.6 brought is in the 0.9.7 release notes, the 0.9.6 release notes and the controls guide.
The app contains no game files. You need your own dump of the game: the disc image (.wux or .wud) with its disc key and the Wii U common key, or a Cemu archive (.wua) made from it. On the first start the app extracts the game and prepares the game code for your device (once; a few minutes on a fast phone, longer on slower ones).
Known issues
- Devices with 4 GB of RAM could still be closed by Android, for example while saving a state (issues #51, #52). Please report it if it still happens, and close other apps before playing.
- Huawei Maleoon GPUs: the game closes at the start inside the GPU driver's shader compiler (issue #53).
- Snapdragon 870 / Adreno 650 with Qualcomm's driver: the GPU can hang at the title screen (issue #29). A Turnip driver (Graphics › Advanced › GPU driver) runs it.
- Singing the songs is experimental: it depends on the microphone and the room.
Install
- Requirements: Android 11 or newer, 64-bit ARM, Vulkan 1.1, about 2 GB of free storage.
- Download
tloz_tww_hd_recomp-0.9.8.apkand install it. It updates 0.9.7, 0.9.6 or 0.9.5 in place and keeps your saves and settings. From 0.9.7 or 0.9.6 that's all. From 0.9.5 the game code is prepared once more after the update (about 6 minutes on a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, 18 minutes on a Helio G85). Save states from 0.9.5 can't be loaded with 0.9.6 or newer; save in the game before updating. - New install: put your disc image and both keys, or your
.wuafile, in one folder. Start the app, choose Extract from your disc image or .wua… and select that folder (or the files themselves).
Frame generation needs the usual Lossless.dll from your own copy of Lossless Scaling. Buy it, don't pirate it like Gonzo would.
Everything else is in the README and the controls guide.
