The shop, and 10 coins a day

Now the first check-in on any new day is worth 10 coins.

The day comes from the plaza's own clock in the check-in reply, so the coins do not arrive at all without a connection, and moving the console's clock does not mint any.
Miss a week and you get 10 on the day you come back, not 70 - it rewards opening the app, not leaving it shut.

Spending works offline.

100 coins buys a piece of the puzzle you are filling, and the tile names which one that is, because the choice itself is made on the puzzles screen.
50 buys a piece of any unfinished puzzle, drawn from all of them at once - half the price, because what the other 50 pays for is the choice, not the piece.

Shop items will be extended in the future and prices may be tweaked.

Either way it is one you do not already hold: a crossing can hand you the same piece twice, since meeting somebody twice is its own reward, but paying for a duplicate would just be a fine.
Both show up in the provenance panel as brought by the shop.

Your coins live in wallet.dat, two running counts checksummed together with your console's own plaza token, so a copied file or a hand-edited number reads as damaged and starts you at zero rather than rich.

Games installed

The encounter screen's middle number said "games they carry" and read 0 for everybody - it counted a field no build has ever filled. It now says how many titles are installed on their console, or - when they did not say.

It travels under Settings -> Privacy -> Show what I am playing, with the title and the hours.

With that off it is not sent at all, and 0 means "not said" rather than "an empty console".

Cards you already hold will read - until you cross those people again on 0.4.0. The passes in your collection never carried the number.

Three more pictures

Old Farm, Castle Blue and Beach at Dusk join the three that were there, so there are ninety pieces to find.

A finished puzzle is worth looking at

Open a completed puzzle and press A: the board goes.
A again gives it the whole panel - no tabs, no hint strip, corner to corner, because the artwork is 16:9 and so is the screen.
Left and Right walk between the ones you have finished.

Blocking, both ways

Settings -> This console used to say "3 blocked" and offer to wipe the lot. It now lists them.

  • Every block remembers who it was. Blocking deletes their pass, so there is nothing left afterwards to look a name up in - the handle is copied at the moment you block, along with the day. A block made by an older build has no name and reads as "Somebody", with its short code beside it either way.
  • A on a row lets that one console cross you again. A on Clear the whole list asks first, then lets all of them through.
  • The plaza is told as well. A block has two halves: this console stops accepting their passes, and the plaza stops pairing you at all. Unblocking now lifts both. Before this, only the first half could ever be undone.
  • Except a block that was not yours. If they blocked you too, you stay apart, and nothing tells you that is why - the same discretion a block gets in the other direction. You are never told when somebody blocks you.
  • Their old pass is not coming back. Blocking deleted it. You can cross them again; the card and its history are gone.

Blocking waits for the network

Blocking and unblocking both need the plaza, and the buttons now say so: offline, they dim, stop responding to touch, and A explains rather than doing nothing.

A block applied with no network filters their passes on this console while yours keep reaching them - you would stop seeing somebody who carried on receiving your handle, your greeting and your face.
The half that protects you is the half that needs the server.

When the network is there and a request still fails, it is retried on a backoff rather than dropped, and anything still owed is written to pending.json and sent on the next launch. Closing the app no longer loses it.

Known issues

The console's copy of the block list is a file on the SD card. Restoring an old profile.json replaces it without the plaza hearing, and the two can then disagree - a block the card has forgotten cannot be lifted by name, because there is no name left to give.

Clear the whole list is the way out, and it is offered even when the list looks empty for exactly this reason: it asks the plaza to drop everything it holds for you, without needing to name any of it.

Crossing somebody now leaves you with something. Every console you pass brings a piece of a picture, and the picture remembers who brought each part of it.

Upgrading from 0.2.0 keeps everything: your identity, your pass and your whole collection are untouched.

Puzzles

A new tab, and the first thing a crossing gives you that is yours to keep.

Three pictures - Forest in the Rain, Mountain in the Fog and Mystical Swamp - each cut into fifteen pieces.
Every console you cross brings one.

Which piece you get is worked out from who you are, who they are, the day, and which puzzle you are filling. So two people crossing the same stranger get different pieces, meeting somebody new is worth more than meeting a regular, and crossing the same person twice in an afternoon is one piece rather than a way to farm the set.

  • Nobody loses anything. A crossing grants a piece to each side independently and takes nothing away, so meeting somebody with an empty collection is worth exactly as much as meeting a completist.
  • Pick what you are filling with Y on the list, or A inside a puzzle. Fill one and the next crossing moves to the first unfinished puzzle by itself rather than throwing the piece away.
  • Every piece remembers who brought it. Put the cursor on a tile and it names the person and the day they crossed you. The name is kept beside the piece rather than looked up through the crossing, so it survives the collection being pruned at its cap.
  • A finished puzzle stops being a grid. While pieces are missing you are looking at a board with holes in it; once none are, it is drawn as the single picture it always was, with no seams.
  • Nothing about this goes on the wire. Both consoles work out their own piece, so there is no new field, no version bump, and nothing for an older build to disagree about.

Expect around fifty crossings to fill a puzzle - a couple of weeks at two new people a day.

If your puzzles show numbered squares instead of pictures, the artwork did not come across - 0.2.0's installer only knew how to unpack the app itself.
Settings -> Data -> Download puzzle art fetches it; restart afterwards.
This only affects consoles updating from 0.2.0 in-app, and only once.

Favourites

Y on a card in the collection stars it. A starred card is kept when the collection reaches its five thousand card cap and starts dropping the oldest, which is the whole point of it: the people worth keeping are the ones you said were worth keeping.

The collection can be sorted by starred as well as by name and by how recently you crossed them.

Backup

Settings -> Data -> Copy everything to a backup folder puts your identity, your pass and your collection into backup/<date>/ on the same card.

Losing identity.json cannot be undone - the passes you handed out are signed by it, and a new one is a new person. Until now the README warned about that and offered nothing to do about it. Copy the backup folder somewhere off the card and you are safe from losing the card itself.

Smaller things

  • Your pass screen counted "people who have your pass" out of two different numbers, one of which counted hand-offs rather than people. It now says how many times your pass has been sent, and remembers the last figure the server gave, so it still reads correctly with no network.
  • The plaza said "0 passes waiting for you" on a quiet day, and "1 passes" on a day with one. Both now say what they mean.
  • The Square stopped treating Miis as buttons - they wander, and a tap landing on whoever moved under your thumb was never what you meant. The focused Mii is outlined instead of boxed, and everyone is drawn with every feature at every distance.
  • Long settings hints used to be cut off with an ellipsis. The one under the cursor now scrolls sideways so you can read the whole thing.

Fixed

  • The Mii detail threshold sat between a plaza card's focused and unfocused size, so hovering a card grew a beard on it. Faces are now drawn the same way whatever size they are.
  • The plaza's group of recent faces drew nothing until you had four crossings.

The Square

A sixth tab. Twenty of the people you have crossed paths with, standing about on a tiled floor that runs off the top of the screen, wandering, occasionally saying whatever their pass says.

  • Your own Mii is always in it, so a console that has met nobody still has somewhere to be rather than an empty screen.
  • A, or a tap, opens whoever the cursor is on. L and R inside a card then walk the crowd in the order they are standing, left to right.
  • D-pad left and right move between people, X shuffles who turned up.

Mii maker

Eyebrow colour, glasses colour, facial hair colour and favourite colour now show swatches.

They read "1 of 8" before, which tells you nothing about a colour.
All eight colour rows are swatches now, and the long ones size themselves to fit rather than running under their own label.

Fixed

  • The "update available" toast pointed at Settings -> Data. The update rows moved to Settings -> About and the toast had not followed.

StreetPass for the Switch, over the internet.

Your console quietly swaps a small pass with other consoles that share your network or your corner of the internet, and you come back later to a stack of them.

First release.

What it does

  • A pass of your own - a name, a greeting, a card theme, up to four things you are "carrying", and a place label you type yourself.
  • A Mii maker - face shape, skin, hair, eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, glasses, facial hair, headwear and build, all drawn from real part outlines. Faces save to export/ as files you can copy off the card and hand around.
  • The plaza - who crossed your path while you were away, newest first.
  • The radar - who else has the app open right now, in the reach you chose.
  • A collection - everyone you have met, how long ago, and how many times.
  • Trade back or block, per person.
  • The title you last played, picked from your five most recent - never typed, never guessed, and off entirely if you would.
  • Self-update from this repo, in Settings → About.
  • Light Mode, Dark Mode, or follow the console.
  • Full touch as well as buttons.

Privacy

A pass never carries your account name, your friend code, your IP, or a position.

Where you crossed is a label you typed, or nothing at all. Your identity is a random id on the SD card, tied to nothing about the hardware - delete it and everything you handed out is permanently unlinkable from you.

Known limits

  • At most 12 crossings a day (you can modify it up to 48 in the settings), one per pair per six hours.
  • Only the 64 most recently played titles are looked at.
  • The collection keeps the 5000 most recent people. Past that the oldest cards you have already opened are dropped first, and unread ones are only touched if dropping every read card still is not enough.
