Release list
TideReader 0.6.0
Highlights
- Added Smart Text overflow modes for overlay title, artist, and album fields
- Expanded SIP v1 integration with browser-support discovery and toggling
- Hardened settings saves so invalid or unavailable overlay ports do not replace the last working configuration
- Improved release packaging, installer naming, signing support, and SIP smoke validation
Overlay improvements
- Added per-field Smart Text modes for clipping, horizontal scrolling, two-line wrapping, and automatic font sizing
- Kept character limits as the first overflow guard so existing compact overlay profiles stay predictable
- Updated overlay previews and generated overlay HTML so Smart Text behavior matches OBS/browser-source output
- Preserved richer TIDAL artist credits from window-title metadata when media sessions expose a shorter artist value for the same track
SIP and integration
- Added SIP browser-support capability reporting and
GET/POST /api/v1/browser-support - Added browser source state to SIP status so integrations can distinguish desktop, browser, and idle playback sources
- Added a SIP Newman smoke collection and release-workflow gate for the local integration contract
- Updated the SIP API reference and Postman collections for the current SIP v1 payloads and validation rules
Reliability and settings safety
- Rejected invalid overlay ports outside
1-65535during user-initiated saves - Verified overlay listener startup before persisting settings, so occupied or invalid ports leave the previous settings active
- Added frontend validation for poll interval, overlay port, browser source cooldown, and stale-session timeout
- Added visible UI feedback for backend polling failures and common settings actions such as refresh, folder selection, release-page opening, and overlay URL copying
- Added confirmation prompts before discarding unsaved settings or switching overlay profiles with unsaved edits
Release and packaging
- Fixed the packaged desktop executable name to
TideReader.exe - Added Authenticode signing support to local and GitHub release packaging
- Added release-workflow SIP smoke checks before packaging artifacts
- Kept installer defaults aligned with the Starsong Installer Standard
Security posture
- SIP remains loopback-only and continues to reject non-localhost
Hostheaders - Mutating SIP requests still require JSON, reject unknown fields, and enforce the request-body size limit
- Frontend error feedback is rendered as text and does not expose local API tokens
- Settings validation now prevents invalid or failed overlay listener configurations from being persisted
Notes
- This release is a minor version bump because it adds user-facing Smart Text overlay behavior and expands the SIP integration surface
- Automated frontend coverage, backend coverage, dependency audit, release build, SIP smoke, and vulnerability checks passed during release preparation

- Avoided ASP.NET content-root hangs when launched from UNC paths
- Defaulted fresh installer installs to
%ProgramFiles%\Starsong Tools\TideReaderwhile preserving existing in-place upgrades - Added desktop launch configuration coverage for service and show mode behavior
Security posture
- SIP remains loopback-only and rejects non-localhost
Hostheaders - CORS is not enabled for the SIP listener
- JSON requests reject unknown fields and enforce a small request-body limit
- SIP responses include no-store and browser hardening headers
- Status payloads exclude full settings, output folders, log paths, credentials, browser debug state, and raw detection debug data
Notes
- This release is a minor version bump because it adds a new local integration surface and service-mode workflow
- Automated frontend coverage, backend coverage, dependency audit, release build, desktop publish, and release packaging checks are expected to pass for this release

TideReader 0.3.2
Highlights
- Fixed TIDAL idle and paused-session detection so TideReader no longer starts in a false playing state
- Reworked the OBS overlay delivery path so an existing browser source reconnects reliably without needing to be recreated
- Cleaned up offline and idle overlay behavior so placeholder art and closed-app flicker are gone
Playback detection fixes
- Fixed launch behavior when TIDAL is open but not playing, so the current TIDAL page or paused session is no longer treated as active playback
- Tightened the TIDAL media-session and window-title fallback rules so paused or generic
TIDALstates do not get promoted intoplaying - Preserved clean idle-state behavior when the only remaining signal is a generic TIDAL title with no active playback behind it
OBS and overlay fixes
- Fixed the OBS browser overlay flow so you no longer need to create a brand-new browser source after first use
- Added a persistent
overlay.htmloutput that OBS can load as a stable local file while still polling TideReader's local overlay APIs - Fixed the idle overlay so it no longer shows a broken artwork image or
ART/ATplaceholder box - Fixed the closed-app overlay experience so it no longer flickers between
Waiting for TideReaderandWaiting for playbackwhile the app is offline - Stabilized the offline overlay state so the artwork block stays hidden until real artwork is available again
Notes
- This release is focused on polish and reliability for TIDAL idle-state handling and long-lived OBS overlay usage
- Automated frontend coverage, backend coverage, release build, and desktop publish checks all still pass after these fixes

What's Changed * Fix idle Tidal detection and OBS overlay recovery by @LastUrsa in #5 Full Changelog: v0.3.1...v0.3.2
Release artifacts
- TideReader-0.3.2-win-x64.zip
- TideReader-0.3.2-win-x64-Setup.exe
TideReader 0.3.1
Highlights
- Fixed a broad set of browser and TIDAL playback handoff bugs so TideReader tracks the active source more reliably
- Improved idle-state correctness so stale browser or generic TIDAL states no longer masquerade as active playback
- Added stronger diagnostics for Windows media sessions, window-title fallback, and Core Audio session visibility
- Hardened browser debug logging so normal diagnostics redact sensitive local identifiers unless deep diagnostics are explicitly enabled
Playback detection fixes
- Fixed
Prefer TIDAL over browser playbackso TIDAL actually wins in the handoff scenarios it is meant to cover - Fixed cases where browser playback stayed selected after TIDAL started, or blocked fallback back to browser after TIDAL stopped
- Fixed stale browser sessions and old browser metadata timestamps causing active browser playback to be ignored or stick around too long
- Added a TIDAL window-title fallback path for cases where Windows media-session data does not surface a TIDAL session
- Fixed the
browser -> not_running -> TIDALtransition gap when browser stops and TIDAL briefly exposes only a generic title - Fixed brief TIDAL title wobble/dropout causing the current TIDAL track to disappear while playback continued
- Reduced browser stop/pause linger so old browser playback clears faster instead of hanging for the full cooldown window
Idle state and overlay fixes
- Fixed idle generic
TIDALtitles appearing as active playback when nothing is actually playing - Fixed overlay and app idle behavior so fake sample song metadata is no longer shown in not-playing states
- Fixed not-playing transitions so the app returns to a clean idle state more consistently after browser or TIDAL playback stops
Diagnostics and privacy
- Added raw Windows media-session, window-title, Core Audio endpoint, and Core Audio session diagnostics to support troubleshooting difficult playback cases
- Added a separate
Deep diagnostic loggingmode so normal browser debug logging hashes or redacts sensitive local identifiers by default
Notes
- This release is focused on correctness and stability rather than new end-user features
- Automated coverage remains above the repo quality gates after the added detection and logging work

TideReader 0.3.0
Highlights
- Added browser media session playback support alongside existing TIDAL detection
- Added provider-based source selection, cooldown handling, browser debug visibility, and browser settings controls
- Expanded the shared overlay pipeline so browser playback flows through the same OBS, JSON, text, and artwork outputs as TIDAL
- Improved overlay and app fallback behavior for low-quality browser metadata and missing artwork
Overlay and app improvements
- Added a Browser settings tab with browser support toggles, source selection controls, metadata cleanup controls, session filtering, and browser debug visibility
- Added safer low-metadata browser fallback copy such as source-aware labels and metadata-limited states
- Hid empty browser artwork blocks for metadata-limited sessions instead of showing misleading placeholder art
- Added optional playback-provider display support in the overlay path
Included browser support
- Chrome
- Edge
- Firefox
- Best-effort metadata handling for YouTube, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and generic browser playback
Notes
- Bandcamp support remains best effort because metadata quality depends on what the browser exposes to Windows media sessions
- This release also raises automated test coverage to the repo quality gates and updates the README for the current release workflow
