Templates

Templates control page content and rendering. A project may mix templates from the two built-in packs. The application only offers templates that support the selected page role, cover position and physical page dimensions.
Use Help → Template documentation… to read the documentation bundled with each installed pack.
MSB is the default pack and supplies the complete initial album configuration.
| Template | Available roles | Main behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Year photo scatter | Any cover; special page | Builds a photo scatter from all available dated photos, with optional automatic or Markdown title and selectable proposals. |
| Geographic word cloud | Any cover; special page | Places city names geographically and scales them by photo count. It can use the MSB monthly palette or page-specific colors. |
| Geographic map | Any cover; special page | Draws geolocated photos on a map, optionally filtered by year, with Web Mercator, Equal Earth or Robinson projection. Marker colors can follow months or use one color; size, opacity and month legend are configurable. |
| Annual calendar | Any cover; special page; year divider | Displays a year calendar and the corresponding album page numbers. Minimum page size: 180 × 180 mm. |
| Simple year divider | Year divider | Displays the year with configurable typography. |
| Month divider with city list | Month divider | Displays the month and cities represented in that period. Minimum page size: 130 × 145 mm. |
| Simple month divider | Month divider | Displays the month or month and year. Automatic mode accounts for the actual year divider. |
| Simple day divider | Day divider | Displays a localized date. Automatic mode accounts for the actual month and year dividers. |
| One, two, three or four photos | Photo page | Fixed-capacity layouts with configurable captions. |
| Dedication | Inside front, inside back or back cover; special page; body special page | Displays configurable Markdown text with typography and frame settings. |
| Blank page | Inside front, inside back or back cover; special page; body special page | Produces an intentionally blank page. |
MSB also provides two automatic photo-page modes: one chooses between one and two photos, and the default mode chooses between one, two and three. The selection uses photo orientation and page geometry. The 1/2 mode pairs two landscape photos on a portrait page or two portrait photos on a landscape page. The 1/2/3 mode first looks for landscape–portrait–portrait on a portrait page and portrait–landscape–landscape on a landscape page; otherwise it applies the 1/2 rule. Square photos and photos with unknown orientation stay alone. Chronological order is preserved. A fixed four-photo layout remains available manually.
Photo-page captions can contain the editorial caption, capture date and time, and location. Each component can be shown, hidden and reordered. MSB reserves space for up to three caption lines per photo; the Plan reports overflow.
The MSB project theme contains a shared default font and one color per month. Templates that support the theme may inherit it while keeping local overrides.
Simplex currently supplies one Full-page photo template. It is available for all four cover positions, ordinary special pages and body special pages.
The image can be a photo already present in the project or an external file. It fills the page without margins while preserving its aspect ratio; excess content is cropped symmetrically. An external path is referenced by the project, so moving or deleting that file makes it unavailable.
The optional title can be automatic or custom Markdown. Automatic text describes the dated album period: a month and year, a year, or a year range. Position, font, size and color are configurable. Selecting a photo in this template does not change its usage state; use “outside the body, available to templates” if it should not also appear on photo pages.
