Boilers
Fireman's instruction: A hot boiler without water is not a working steam supply.
Use water for boiler water tanks. Lava is a neighbouring heat source for geothermal operation, not a substitute for water. Keep water/fuel networks distinct and provide a loaded steam receiver. Ordinary redstone control can inhibit operation; remove accidental signals while commissioning.
Supply valid furnace fuel and water. The water tank holds 4,000 mB and steam buffer 1,000. Watch the separate water, burn and steam readings. It is a reliable first boiler because fuel and demand can be bounded.
The Forge tank fill interface accepts water, not lava. Internal code retains a separate lava-to-burn-time path, but that is not permission to pour lava into the water tank or a requirement for the normal installation.
Place it adjacent to a heat source, normally lava, and supply water. The water tank holds 2,000 mB, steam buffer 100. Being merely near lava is insufficient.
The code's maximum temperature is 2,000. Fire provides a 200-degree target; a neighbouring fluid's heat target is (fluid temperature - 372) * 0.5. Steam production is proportional to temperature (0.001 * temperature per tick), and each steam unit removes 24 temperature units. These are simulation values, not real-world thermodynamics.
Temperature and water should survive restart. Current code reads canonical Temperature with a legacy Tempoerature fallback; the old misspelling is not a current reason to expect a cold boiler.
Provide separate 4,000 mB water and fuel tanks. Steam buffer is 1,000. Fuel is burnt in 100 mB portions. The GUI should show both supply tanks and burn state; a full fuel tank with no water cannot sustain operation.
Explicit fluid_fuel_values override defaults. Otherwise Power crude, Mineralogy crude and registered legacy oil share a 5,000-burn-tick-per-bucket fallback. Generic fuel defaults to 25,000. Check configuration for other fuels; appearance does not establish acceptance.
Connect baseElectric electricity and water. Capacities: 2,000 mB water, 160 electricity, 100 steam. Rated conversion is 16 electricity per tick to 0.5 steam per tick, or 32 electricity per steam. It is an energy converter, not a free generator.
Do not infer a perpetual loop from pairing it with the steam-powered electrical generator; conversion and storage losses still apply.
