Drills
Driller's instruction: Keep the bore clear and look for output at the machine, not beside the cutting tip.
All six facings are valid. The drill cuts in its facing direction, collects output into six internal slots and can pass it to a rear inventory/conveyor. It is not expected to throw successful mining drops beside the visible bit.

Orient before starting. Keep the rear accessible and connect steam to a compatible face. The drill uses crusher results where provided by the crushing integration, with applicable ordinary drops otherwise; a block's recipe determines whether you receive gravel, dust or another product.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum reach from body | 64 blocks |
| Local steam buffer | 50 |
| Bit extension | 2.5 steam |
| Mining progress | 1 steam per active work tick |
| Track movement | 10 steam |
| Hardness time factor | 32 |
Full output or insufficient steam prevents useful continued work. Protect the cutting area: drill helper bits damage entities.
Craft steam track shapelessly from one steam pipe and one steel frame. Correctly aligned track lets the drill advance and retain service. Do not substitute ordinary decorative rails or assume arbitrary neighbouring frames are track. Leave a safe clearance and finite test bore before attempting a long unattended run.
Movement and restart should retain facing, inventory, steam and target/work state. Current maintained code repairs historical horizontal/vertical restoration and movement faults. Test all directions relevant to your installation, including a complete game restart, before committing a valuable bore.
