Installation and Sideloading
Moonfin is on the Roku Channel Store, which is the easiest way to install it. You can also sideload a build from Releases.
Search for Moonfin on your Roku, or open the store page and add the channel. It installs and updates like any other channel, with no Developer Mode needed.
Roku OS 9.1 or newer is required, which covers most Roku devices from 2018 onwards.
| Device | Supported models |
|---|---|
| Roku TV | 2018 and newer |
| Roku Streaming Stick | 2018 and newer |
| Roku Ultra | All models |
| Roku Express | 2019 and newer |
Sideloading uses Developer Mode, which is built into every Roku device and needs no extra tools beyond a web browser.
- Enable Developer Mode with the remote sequence: Home three times, Up twice, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right.
- Create a developer password when prompted and write it down.
- Find your Roku's IP address under Settings, Network, About.
- Open
http://YOUR_ROKU_IPin a browser on the same network. - Log in with the developer password you just created.
- Select the Moonfin
.zipbuild and click Install.
The app appears on your home screen immediately.
Sideloaded apps live in the developer slot, so installing a different sideloaded app replaces Moonfin. To update, repeat the steps above with the newer .zip, and your settings are preserved.
Enabling Developer Mode restarts the device. If the remote sequence doesn't take, make sure you're on the Roku home screen with nothing focused before starting it.
