Getting Started
This page walks you through the first hours. Every recipe below can also be looked up in JEI (the Spore Nexus Altar, the Mycelian Core and the mutations have their own JEI categories).
You need a handful of mushrooms. Any of these work (they are all in the sporenexus:mushrooms item tag):
- Brown mushroom and red mushroom
- Crimson fungus and warped fungus
- Banded Agaric: a mushroom that generates underground in Overworld caves
- Eternal Light Mushroom: a glowing mushroom found in lush caves
Make sure to bring back at least one Eternal Light Mushroom & Banded Agaric, it is needed for recipes.
- Mushroom Spores: craft any mushroom (shapeless) to get 2 spores.
- Mycelium: 8 spores around a dirt block gives a vanilla Mycelium block. Mycelium is a spore soil, the ground that resource mushrooms need.
- Mycelian Core: 4 iron ingots, 2 mushroom spores and 1 mycelium. It is a two-block-tall machine (the upper half is placed automatically, so keep the space above it free).
First of all machines, you'll need to craft yourself some mycelium to craft the Mycelian Core:
The Mycelian Core turns a mushroom, a substrate and three nutrients into materials. Start with Fungal Powder:
Fungalsteel is the metal of all Spore Nexus machines. You'll need it the most in this mod:
The Spore Nexus Altar is the machine that creates resource mushrooms:
Nexus Fungus is the base of many Altar recipes, such as dirt, sand, gravel, stone, clay and coal. Craft a Nexus Fungus:
Open the Altar, put the fungus in the mushroom slot and the 8 ingredients of a recipe in the other slots (use JEI to see them or see Recipes), then wait a few seconds. The fungus is replaced by the resource mushroom.
- Plant the mushroom on a spore soil: Mycelium, or one of the Spore Nexus mycelium blocks (see Machines).
- It needs darkness: it cannot be placed, and it stops growing, where the light level is 11 or more. Grow underground or in a covered room.
- When it is fully grown, right-click it to harvest. You get fragments, sometimes Fungal Essence and sometimes a bonus item. The mushroom resets and grows again.
- Craft 4 fragments in a 2x2 square to get the real resource (see the table in Resource Mushrooms).
Fungal Essence is important: it upgrades your fungi, your soils, your accelerators and your harvesters (see Fungi and Materials).
- Harvest by hand until you have Fungal Essence.
- Craft Fertilized Mycelium (8 spores around a mycelium) and upgrade it with essences for faster growth.
- Plant two different mature mushrooms close together to discover mutations.
- Build a Mushroom Harvester next to your farm, and Growth Accelerators to speed everything up.
- Connect a hopper or a pipe to the harvester to move the items where you need them.
