Resource Mushrooms

Resource Mushrooms

Resource mushrooms are the core of the mod. Each one produces fragments of a vanilla resource. There are 33 built in, and modpack authors can add more (see Modpack & custom integration).

How they are obtained

  • Spore Nexus Altar: every resource mushroom has an Altar recipe. It needs a fungus (Nexus, Great, Mineral, ...) plus 8 ingredients. See Machines.
  • Mutation: most mushrooms can also appear by mutation from two parents, see Mutations.

The 6 base mushrooms (Dirt, Gravel, Ice, Netherrack, Sand, Stone) have no mutation: they can only be made at the Altar.

Growing

Rule Detail
Soil Must be planted on a spore soil: vanilla Mycelium, Fertilized, Fungal, Infernal or Ethereal Mycelium.
Light The mushroom cannot be placed, and stops growing, when the light level at its position is 11 or more. Sky light counts at any time of day, so grow underground or under a roof. It resumes when it is dark enough again.
Stages 9 growth ages, shown with 3 different sizes. The mushroom is ready when it has reached its biggest size.
Speed Multiplied by the soil and by the best nearby growth accelerator. See below.
Bone meal Does not work on resource mushrooms.

Growth time

The "Full growth" column below is the time from planting to ready, at normal speed (x1, on plain Mycelium, no accelerator). Each growth step has a small random variation, so times are approximate. Jade shows the remaining time for the mushroom you are looking at.

Speed bonuses

Soil and accelerator multiply each other. Only the best accelerator in range applies to a given mushroom: accelerators do not stack with each other.

Soil Speed
Mycelium (vanilla) x1
Fertilized Mycelium x1.25
Fungal Mycelium x1.5
Infernal Mycelium x1.75
Ethereal Mycelium x2
Accelerator Speed Range (cube around the accelerator)
Growth Accelerator x1.25 3x3x3
Fungal Growth Accelerator x1.5 5x5x5
Infernal Growth Accelerator x1.75 7x7x7
Ethereal Growth Accelerator x2 9x9x9

The best possible combination is x4 (Ethereal soil and Ethereal accelerator).

Harvesting

Right-click a fully grown mushroom (or let a Mushroom Harvester do it). The mushroom goes back to its first stage and starts growing again. Each harvest gives:

Drop Amount Chance
Fragments of the resource 1 to 3 100%
Fungal Essence 1 to 2 45%
Extra drop (only for some mushrooms, see the table) 1 15%

If you break the mushroom block instead of harvesting it, you get the mushroom block back.

Fragments

(SEE JEI)

Fragments are crafted into the real resource with 4 fragments in a 2x2 square. The "4 fragments craft" column gives the result. A few fragments have extra recipes (for example Stone Fragments also make Stone Bricks, Ice Fragments with a bucket make a Water Bucket, Moss Fragments make Moss Carpet).

All resource mushrooms

*Full growth at x1 speed. "Altar fungus" is the fungus used in the Altar recipe. Tier is the depth in the mutation tree (tier 1 mushrooms are the starting points).
