Mutations
Mutation is how you climb the tree: two mushrooms of the right kinds, planted close together, can create a new mushroom between them. Parents are not consumed, so a well-built mutation farm keeps producing.
- A mushroom finishes growing.
- It looks for another fully grown mushroom within 2 blocks (a 5x5 area at the same height).
- If the pair of mushrooms matches a mutation recipe (the order does not matter), the game checks for a free spot.
- The new mushroom needs a free block that is:
- next to both parents (within 1 block of each),
- air, at the same height as the parents, standing on a spore soil,
- dark: light level 7 or less.
- If a spot exists, there is one roll with the mutation's chance. On success the new mushroom appears at its first growth stage.
If no spot is available, nothing happens. The chance is rolled each time the growing mushroom matures, so patience (and many mushrooms) pays off.
Tip: with Jade, look at a mushroom to see which mutation it can trigger, its chance, and why it is blocked (too bright or no free spore soil).
- Plant parents A and B with one free spore soil block next to both of them.
- Keep the area dark (light 7 or less at the free spot).
- Surround the farm with harvesters if you want automatic production. Harvesting resets a mushroom, which then matures again and rolls a new chance.
- Use accelerators and good soil: faster growth means more rolls per hour.
27 mushrooms can be obtained by mutation. The 6 base mushrooms (Dirt, Gravel, Ice, Netherrack, Sand, Stone) are the roots of the tree and are made at the Altar.
| Result | Parent A | Parent B | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blackstone | Stone | Netherrack | 6% |
| Clay | Dirt | Sand | 10% |
| Iron | Gravel | Stone | 6% |
| Moss | Dirt | Ice | 10% |
| Obsidian | Ice | Netherrack | 5% |
| Quartz | Sand | Stone | 6% |
| Soul Sand | Sand | Netherrack | 6% |
| Amethyst | Quartz | Iron | 4% |
| Basalt | Blackstone | Gravel | 6% |
| Calcite | Quartz | Clay | 6% |
| Coal | Moss | Stone | 8% |
| Copper | Clay | Gravel | 6% |
| End Stone | Obsidian | Sand | 3% |
| Fungalsteel | Moss | Iron | 4% |
| Glowstone | Quartz | Netherrack | 4% |
| Lapis Lazuli | Ice | Quartz | 4% |
| Tuff | Stone | Clay | 8% |
| Deepslate | Stone | Coal | 8% |
| Diamond | Coal | Obsidian | 4% |
| Flint | Gravel | Coal | 8% |
| Gold | Iron | Glowstone | 4% |
| Magma | Netherrack | Coal | 6% |
| Redstone | Copper | Glowstone | 4% |
| Emerald | Diamond | Lapis Lazuli | 3% |
| Netherite | Diamond | Magma | 2% |
| Sculk | Soul Sand | Deepslate | 4% |
| Echo Shard | Sculk | Amethyst | 3% |
A roll happens each time a parent matures, so even a 4% mutation triggers regularly in a large farm.
