Camera Overlay Calibration

Camera Overlay Calibration maps the camera view to the work area so snapshots can be used as accurate overlay/reference images in laser software.

From Dashboard:

Calibration buttons

Button Use
Take Snapshot Capture a new image from the camera
Reload Image Reload the current calibration image
Save Calibration Save selected calibration points
Reset Clear current point selections

Basic process

  1. Place a known rectangular/square target on the laser bed.
  2. Take a snapshot.
  3. Select the four reference points in order:
    • top-left
    • top-right
    • bottom-right
    • bottom-left
  4. Save calibration.
  5. Take a new Dashboard snapshot.
  6. Open Latest and confirm the overlay is square and aligned.

What calibration affects

Calibration affects processed snapshots used for:

  • Overlay/reference image in laser software.
  • Timelapse processed image source.
  • Camera alignment checks.

It does not change the physical laser, GRBL settings, or the Ray5 controller.

Tips

  • Use a flat target that fills a large part of the bed.
  • Make sure the camera mount cannot move.
  • Recalibrate if the camera is bumped.
  • Use overlay guides to make alignment easier.
  • Use raw snapshots when troubleshooting camera framing.

Troubleshooting

Problem Fix
Processed image is skewed Re-pick points in the correct order
Image is upside down/rotated wrong Check camera processing settings
Burn is shifted but shape is correct Use Camera Overlay Alignment
Overlay size is wrong in software Check final image size and DPI
Calibration page has no image Test camera and take a snapshot first
