Search helps report viewers find rows in large or deeply nested matrices. It can match both row labels and values in leaf or custom cells.

Enable search

  1. Select the visual and open Format visual.
  2. Open Search and turn it on.
  3. Configure the button position, size, border, background, and automatic-hide behavior as needed.

Run a search

  1. Click the Search button on the visual.
  2. Enter text, a number, or a percentage.
  3. Select Apply.

Search checks:

  • Row labels, without case sensitivity.
  • Values in leaf and custom cells.
  • Numeric values, including a small comparison tolerance.
  • Percentage input.
  • Display scaling and the cell's resolved format.
  • The report's decimal and thousand separators.

When a child row matches, the visual keeps its ancestors visible and automatically expands the path needed to reveal the result.

Note

With native Drill Down, Power BI sends only the levels currently loaded for the active drill position. Search cannot match rows that are not present in that data view.

Clear a search

Select Reset search to remove the filter and return to the full table.
