Socket.IO

Richard Ng edited this page May 24, 2020 · 1 revision

Socket.IO is used for the real-time scenarios of our application, such as music syncing, and real-time chat.

It is used for bidirectional communication between the client and server, this is useful so that instead of polling, the server for information about the clients message, once the client sends a message, the server can now easily tell all users connected to the socket that a message has been sent.

For our application, Socket.IO was predominantly used for real-time chat and syncing music playback for users.

Difficulties included using Socket.IO with redux, and the Spotify Web Playback SDK
